Have one of these for about 6 months and have had no issues, however it is an a/c powered desktop drive while the op is for a usb one.
mains powered hard drives are usually cheaper per terabyte because they use 3.5" drives which are cheaper compared to 2.5" in USB powered portable hard drives.

@msmhw: It is $50 more. eBay LBW20 code gives $20 off. The 3TB one might be a 7200 rpm one, the 5TB most certainly is 5900 rpm. That said, the 3TB heats up.
@netsurfer: even if its $50 more. Still amazon cheaper considering the price per tb.
i thought both of them are 7200 but i am not sure about this. I may be wrong.
@msmhw: According to comments from people at Amazon, the 5TB one is a 5900 rpm drive. Per GB, yes 5TB is better.

5Tb for $180 => $36 per 1 tb
For me I found amazon has great service, sometimes even better than local service
if you're going to get this, you can get the 3tb one from dick smiths, its only a few bucks more.
i think for the price difference its worth it.

Hard to justify this even at the discount price. When Officeworks were selling this for $74.25 last month. Just a pity Dick Smith don't sell the Seagate expansion portable 2tb. As I'm waiting on a good deal for one of these.
Centrecom had 2TB WD portable hard drive for around the same price as part of their boxing day sale. The 3TB desktop one DSE is selling, after the discount, is also average price.
I guess if you want to factor in the weak AUD at the moment, probably still okay.
Avoid Seagate at all cost. This is the 3rd dead drives I have and 2 of them I have to bring them to a data recovery centre which cost more than the HDD itself and around 1 month lost time.

I will never buy a seagate hard-drive again. Mine failed recently and I lost 2tb/8 years worth of memories.

It was being used in a NAS. I guess i never expected it to fail.
True, before I came here I only had one backup, after joining this site I have 3, even my tv shows are backed up….. Just in case, don't wanT the hassle of getting them all over again
