Just received this email from Live Connected

"We're sorry but we have to change your plan!

We've loved having you on board and hope we managed to save you lots on your mobile bill!

At this stage we're unable to continue to provide you with the same mobile plan you've been on as underlying network costs have significantly increased since you first joined us. We wouldn't be changing your plan unless it was necessary for us to do so. It's not all bad news, like always, we've worked hard to make sure our plans are still the most competitive available, providing you with some of the best value mobile plans in Australia!

We're going to have to ask you to now choose from our current plans. To save you some hard work and time we've calculated, based on your current spend and usage, the best plan for you to move to. Below are the results for your current connected services. These changes will take place automatically on the 1st April 2015 and will reflect on your next bill (April 5th) but if you'd like to move to a plan that's different from what we've nominated, then please email us at [email protected] and nominate your new plan, please include in your email your account and mobile number(s) and the new plan you wish to move to. You can view them all here

This letter serves as the required 21 days period of notice.

If you've got any questions about the change, or anything else for that matter, please email us at [email protected]

We're looking forward to continue to look after all your mobile needs.

I was on the $11/month plan for as long as it existed….must been at least 3-4yrs. I knew this day was coming but now that it is here, it's a little hard to swallow.

Possible options with similar features, albeit at around double the price:

    • Live Connected Rapid 23
    • TPG T3G
    • Telechoice Global Liberty
    • New Optus $30 recharge

Would love to hear what other options are out there

I'd steer clear of Telechoice. I jumped on it after getting the same LC email, and I get really patchy reception in Melbourne CBD and surrounds in general, + lots of dropouts and black spots. Vaya and TPG are all optus - I found them reliable and might go back. Otherwise there's a Boost $20 prepaid plan which uses the Telstra 3G (not wholesale) network.

      • Total opposite experience with Telechoice to me, I get reception in Melbourne CBD where friends on Optus didn't and generally the same as my friends on Telstra. The customers service might be slow and shotty, but considering the budget nature of the company I'm surprised they even had call centers to begin with.

    • Depends on how much you use, really. I have light usage to non-Virgin mobile numbers so the $19 for three months works out for me..100MB, unlimited v-to-v, 15c calls/text otherwise.

  • same with tpg. what can we do…

  • Got this a year ago and promptly ran. My parents also needed something cheap (or almost costless) and went with amaysim. Yatango/Aldi also similar, but really nothing like what LC used to offer.

  • Eh, double-posted, my bad.

Oh wait, threads were merged, lol. Thought I had been dreaming..

  • In the same boat as you are (coming from Vaya user).
Seems like they're owned by the same mother company.

  • Same boat - looks like they have had another purge of the last of the "good deal people.

  • wait for someone finding a good better plan!!

  • Check out the new $20 a month plan starting with Boost on 31 March. It covers everything I need, and is an auto top-up prepaid, so if you do go over it won't be by a huge amount.

Otherwise if you are an extremely light user amaysim has a pay as you go plan, can be as little as $0 a month. My son has been on that plan for about 7 months now and we have only paid the one bill to date.

  • Telstra prepaid $30 Freedom?
Gives you $220 call credits + 1.3GB data + $30 Google play credit.

  • Are there any exit fees with Live Connected?

    • I thinks you go with optus $1 a day is better. just paid for the day you use. so if your parent not use the phone, just recharge $10 for 6 months credit expiry.

      • Yeah Optus $1 a day was my first option.

However the Telstra prepaid gives you $30 Google Play credit while the Optus doesn't.

Edit: Hope I get my $20 security deposit back from Live Connected

        • Hm yeah, Optus $1 day is not bad too, as long as they don't feel bad about using it if they need to, or don't use it every day for tiny things, lol.

  • Boost's new deal: http://boost.com.au/$20-ultra-sim-prepaid-plan.aspx

    $20 for 30 days
100 MINUTES to standard national numbers
    + MessageBankĀ® retrieval & 1300/1800 numbers

    Unlimited SMS
    1GB of data

You can set up auto recharge so your parents never need to worry about topping it up.

  • We went Spintel… I like that if you go over plan you get bumped to the next plan level for a few dollars rather than paying excess fees.

  • My wife's phone is in the same boat - looking for an alternative to their $15 plan, now they want $23 for something that's vaguely equivalent.

I was planning on moving to Vaya (I know they're the same company as LC) and going on their $18 plan. Data is a priority and we're happy with Optus performance - any reason the Power Plan 18 wouldn't be a good choice?

The Boost deal looks interesting, but I'd like more than 1GB if possible.

    • If data is important vaya might not be a good choice as they bill in megabytes. If it weren't for this I'd go for vaya also. Kilobyte billing should be standard I think, but vaya charge for that.

Telechoice bill in kilobytes if you are interested.

      "Get Max Power
Want extra data? You need Max Power.
The $25 Max Power fee is a once off charge to unlock per KB billing, the only ongoing charge is the $10 on top of your plan for the Data Bolt-On.

      What does it mean?
Vaya, like a lot of other mobile providers, rounds data sessions to the next Megabyte when calculating your usage. By billing per KB, you can squeeze out every last bit of your data allowance."

  • Vaya Power Plan $18 (V3) really does appear to be the next best in line.
Has anybody thought to sign on with the 24month deal - they would have to honour the $18p/m offer for the full 24 months??

    • +1

Trust me you definitely do not want a 24 month contract with Vaya
