MCG Reduces Food Prices by up to 40% (Etihad to Follow?)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I know food prices at the footy & cricket are frowned upon by the community, but I for one reckon this move makes it somewhat 'affordable' to eat at the footy. I'm sure this post will generate a lot of discussion. Enjoy :)

Here's a breakdown of the new prices for 2015, with Etihad to perhaps follow suit

  • Hot Chips $4.00 (last year $5.60) down 29%

  • Hot Dog $4.00 (last year $6.50) down 39%

Still too expensive. Bring your own.

In the hot weather days, food gets spoiled quickly.

  • About bloody time… but not a deal.
(In fact, any OzBargainer should have to hand in their "membership card" if they bought at the original prices!! :-p )

  • These are only prices, and not indicative of true value.

Product sizes may decrease, or food quality may drop. The only things we can be sure that this won't impact are drinks and the beer trays.

Beer isn't even that expensive at the footy..
Its $7.10 for a schooners worth of carlton at the MCG and $7.20 at Etihad..
If you went to any pub in the city it would be $4.50-$5 for a pot and $9-10 for a pint..
A schooner is sized between a pot and a pint.
    Therefore its appropriately priced.
Also, if you buy a carry try and complain about it then jump infront of a locomotive.

I will say that spirits are expensive, but they are also expensive to buy and they get damaged/expire quite often.
But if you cannot afford it then don't buy it..

As for food prices, you guys have no idea how much goes into the operations at both Etihad and the MCG. At the MCG there are always between 20 and 100 employees working full time to count and stock outlets alone.. This does not include regular employees surrounding procurement, staffing etc. Food outlets make barely any money, they are mainly subsidized by how much is made in bars.

You also need to realize that with the prices, as high as they were.. barely ever stopped people from buying stuff.. Reducing the price would increase demand and they struggle to make food to keep up with demand on busy games as is.
