Advice on 2 laptop/notebook options I am considering Dell Latitude E7440 vs

Hi

I'm after a decent notebook/laptop for close to $1000 give or take a couple hundred.

Two that I am keen on are an Asus UX303LA-R5095P (i5-4210U,13.3"HD,8GB,128GB SSD) which I can get for $1159, or a dell latitude e7440 (i7-4600U Processor, 14"HD, 8GB, 128GB SSD) from dell outlet for $950.

I'm leaning to the dell as I have had one that served me well for 9 years (and is struggling now), and the price difference.

Any thoughts/advice others to consider?

Thanks in advance

    dell e7440 =
    - faster core i7
    - 8GB on 1 slot (can add later)
    - wwan capable (add 3g simcard for mobile internet)
    - cheaper
    - full mini-card (msata) means 2.5 ssd slot is empty (can add later)

    asus ux303la
    - HD+ screen (1600x900)
    - 2y warranty
    - slightly lighter

    I vote for dell.

Thanks so much. I wasn't sure what the mini card meant in terms of HDD. Decision seems pretty obvious!

      • Can't edit my comment (too late). I'm interested in e7440 too so I checked again - since it comes with wwan card, the mini-card goes to ssd bay (with an adapter or interposer). So it's no longer a plus, however I would also add this one has a backlit kb which is nice :)

        • Its the Dell 15" chassis that gives you space for all 3. I have 2 SSDs and a a normal hard drive in mine. I just wish I could put in a pcie drive like in the Mac.

Macbook air at JBhifi 10% off sale. Grab one before they sell out, prices have gone up on all 2015 models and its only a tiny update.

please Thorton, stop it with the apple push all the time. They are talking about windows units.

      • No PVA, they asked for others to consider, I gave them options.

  • Horton makes a good point. Windows would add $120 to the Mac, but you'd get the the HD+ screen, more battery life and a much faster SSD. On the other hand you'd be struck with only 4gb of RAM.

If you a a real road warrior, I would tend toward the Mac. If you will mainly use it connected to an external screen and the power, may as well go for the 7440.

But get in fast. If you think the apple price hikes are bad, wait til you see what Dell has planned.

  • There's a updated version of ux303la with broadwell CPU, FHD touch IPS screen and 256GB ssd

I got this instead of macbook air when I realised the ssd is not upgradable. Apple uses proprietary PCIe SSD interface

  • Grabbed the dell. It arrived yesterday and is going well…..at least after all the software updates.

Thanks for the comments and advice
