My wife smashed her iPhone 5 (digitiser) screen so she needed a new phone asap.

Bad luck as Apple had a price rise recently.

I searched online for Australian stock and the cheapest was $1199. Grey imports don't seem any cheaper and you may also get stung with GST + Duty as it's over $1,000.

Went to Knox City Shopping Centre last night after work, Harvey Norman $1,170, JB Hifi $1,160. Just for kicks I asked the Optus store if they even sold it outright and they did at $1,128 in the colour my wife wanted. I didn't bother asking the Telstra store next door as I was hungry and wanted to go home.

So there you have it, not a bargain, but a bargain for an iPhone.

Those who say you're getting ripped off buying an iPhone can go away, tell me something I don't know lol.

Unfortunately I won't be claiming the GST refund, as I don't know anyone traveling overseas soon nor would my wife want to be without her new phone.

    Thanks for your opinion. I'm sure iPhone users will consider your thoughts and consider a $45 windows phone when they need a new phone.

  I've previously booked in to see an apple genius after cracking my screen (on iPhone 5s) and got a 1 for one replacement for $220. It was $180 for the iphone 4. Did you try this OP??

    We'll fix it outside, prob for around $50 as the LCD screen is still good, just the digitizer is broken.

    But my wife wanted a new phone with more memory and you can still sell a iPhone 5 for decent money.

  It truly staggers me how incompetent ppl are with their smartphones. Not having a dig at anyone, just saying. My brother for example got an android phone 3 years ago and hasn't even changed what's on the home screen. Why would anyone use touchwiz on a Samsung when there's about 20 different launches on the android store which are way better? Use a different keyboard app, browser, camera, dial pad,text msg app, whatever u want.. the customization is endless, yet the vast majority don't utilise it. Why? Is it that difficult? I have no idea

  Its this reason the iPhone is so good, its one option for everything and it just works, with minimal effort, and its dummy proof

  Fwiw, I have a tcl s950, flashed with custom rom, and works as good as any phone, including an iPhone and costs a staggering 180 bucks
