Whirlpool has a multi-hundred page thread on things to do in Japan. It's your best bet.

Then there's japan-guide.com which is really good.

If you want to travel extensively by bullet train you have to buy your pass before you leave Australia.

    You'll love it!

  • If you're only staying for 2 weeks, I highly recommend staying within 1-2 cities.
I made the mistake of spending a total of 2 weeks across Tokyo, Mt Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka. Definitely didn't have enough time in each city to just truly enjoy the experience, as there is so much to see, eat and do in each area!

  • Tokyo - Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya - shopping
    DisneyLand
    DisneySea
    Hakone - hot spring
Odaiba - museum, rainbow bridge, etc
    Akihabara - japanese toys/gadgets
Asakusa - old Japan like temple, shops

Kyoto, Osaka is quite a distance from Tokyo and transport is not cheap in Japan.

  • I thought the transport cost issue can be resolved with Japan Railway Pass?
I'm going there too and since we have been there before this time we will go visit further cities/prefectures around Japan.
