Best prepaid plans out

Hi Ozb, finally it is time to end my contact with Telstra and I'm thinking of getting a prepaid service. Trying to get community input in current prepaid options.

So are there any good prepaid options out there? And why?

P.s
Vodafone is out of the question as I actually want to be able to use the service.

  • Boost mobile
    $40 Unlimited calls and text
3gb data as of the other day as well as a new addition of free 1gb data every sunday to be used only on sunday.

    • Yeah, Boost is the best prepaid plan on a reliable network that won't sink any time soon.

    • Looking at this or aldi at the moment

  • It depends what you need in terms of usage: Calls, Text, Internet. Without any of these details, we can't recommend what would be best value for money for you.

    • The most sense made here so far.

How long a piece of string do I need? Depends on the size of the parcel you are tying up.

How anyone can recommend anything without knowing these facts… :)

Over to the OP to at least tell us what plan they had before

      • because unlimited means just that no limit

some people like me rather have unlimited regardless of whether you call alot or a little it's a good thing to have if you do need to make a long call or send lots of texts one month.

Data is a very decent amount if more is needed simply go for optus $2 days as someone said.

This is how recommendations are made so far.

        • because unlimited means just that no limit

But the OP never said "unlimited" You were the first to say that.

Prepaid plans from aldi start at $5 which is great if you make not many calls, given they were on a plan I would guess that's too low a plan, but after that who knows.

I was on the 80$ 1.5gb plan. Amazing how fast that amount of data disappears. these days

  • Yatango works for me. I make very few calls and texts but want a reasonable amount of 4G data. Yatango uses the Optus network.

I pay $15 for 2GB of data (lasts for 1 month).
I use the PAYG method for calls and texts, which is: Calls = 11 cents/min (no connection fee). SMS = 9 cents

Alternatively, they offer unlimited calls/texts for $27.90 (no data) or $43.90 with 3GB of data.
They have personalised packs as well if your usage is somewhere in the middle.

I've been with them for a couple of months with no issues so far.

  • Optus $2 a day prepaid
    Unlimited calls and sms
500Mb of data PER DAY, another $2 for an extra 500Mb on days that you go over.
It works out to about $60 a month and I use around 7-10Gb of data a month

  • ^ Use this one..except I get unlimited data PER DAY

  • Amaysim, I'm on the Flexi $19.99 plan at the moment, they recently upgraded to the 4G network.
There's also an unlimited plan for $44.90

Can't go wrong with 9c/min for calls to landlines and mobiles, and 9c per sms.
    No lock in contracts
    Great support too.

I was with Vodafone prepaid 365 plan, but got fed up with their 89c p/minute rate + 35c connection fee

  • $2 days optus. n00bie certified. knock yourself out =)

  • If you want to stick with Telstra they've actually made their pre-paid plans a lot more attractive in recent months. In particular they've upped the data allowance significantly.
I transitioned from Telstra post-paid to pre-paid and have been happy and getting away with the $30 or $40 recharge.

  • Amaysim $44 a month by far ….Unlimited Calls Unlimited SMS and 4gb Data Per Month ….

  • So theres 3 main companies amaysim aldi and boost. I think amaysim will be my choice. Bit dearer but has 4g

  • Boost is very good and it is on Telstra (but the speeds will be slower than your current plan).

Also have a look at Spintel. They have flexible plans (not pre-paid). You get to choose the amount of calls, sms's and data.

    • wow, they look pretty good, and 4G too.

      • Note a conspicuous absence of the adverb 'down' on their promo blurb

When your needs change up, we simply update individual options for you. It couldn't be easier.

Establishment cost 43 dollars+ not especially cheap for testing either.

Any direct carrier will get one 4g, and of the most competitive Unli/681 mins for recharge~[$40-$32-] with frills like weekends. Unless telstra is needed, you find decent value.

  • yeah pre-paid is where it's at..
Not to0 sure why post paid has blow out in cost lately.

  • What did you end up getting?

I believe they settled on the optus after canvassing for old Woolworths sim.
