[April Fools] $0 to Own Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s Iconic ‘Budgie Smugglers’ Used and Unwashed

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Renowned for his love of fitness and affiliation with the Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club in Manly, Tony Abbott has donned his infamous red and blue budgie smugglers on many aquatic occasions, whipping media and the general public into a frenzy of eager anticipation every time this glistening political Adonis exits the water and runs onto the sands of Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Possibly photographed more than any other swimwear in history outside of Borat’s lime green mankini, these iconic Speedos were found in-situ, freshly worn and salt crusted, on a bench in the change rooms of Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club by a member of the Society of Australasian Domestic Interior Executives (SADIE), who has verified the item’s authenticity.

Thanks. I fell for it, was about to pass the link on to friends, if not for your comment or I'd have looked quite the fool. An April Fool, as it were.

  • Where is our ozbargain exclusive coupon code for this year?

  • I think Abbot will buy it back.

  • +17

Mmm… smells like economic and diplomatic failure.

      • You can either be in the budgie smugglers or you can hang free and smell the fresh air once in a while

  • +3

Dont forget to use https://www.cashrewards.com.au/ for 100% cashback

    Note: May smell of onion.

    • Given their provenance, far more likely to be lemon.

  • Funny. :)

  • +15

WOW. Didn't know Tony Abbot was TA.

  • -1

There is no such thing, your given a 15% discount code upon Making the purchase, really stupid April fools day joke.

    • +11

This is by Groupon not OzBargain you gallah.

        • +5

humour is subjective - I certainly exhaled through my nose in a forceful fashion - a snort if you will

          lighten up francis

        • +3

@fattyboombatty: absolutely, jokes about you are funny, about me are offensive….

Just like political correctness is correct only if it meets the same subjective test…

      • +4

        Gallah?

I think you'd struggle to get one of those smuggled down there. Might be a bit tight with your own "fauna". Plus, those things have nasty beaks.

      • -3

This is by Groupon not OzBargain you gallah.

Ozbargain is equally implicit in the fact that it hasn't taken this deal off yet !! SO IT IS OZBARGAIN TOO.

        • +2

Ozbargain won't act unless it breaks a guideline or is legally pressured into doing so. As yet, neither has happened

    • +5

You can hardly claim double standards when you are just speculating that this would have been removed if it was about a female.

      • -2

Sometimes we have a short (or selective) memory - a similar joke about the female PM caused outrage and made international headlines.

        • In no way similar.
I have/had zero support for Julia, and had a mild chuckle at it. But that joke was laughing at her, of a sexual/womanhood nature, and belittling on several levels.

      • You can hardly claim double standards when you are just speculating that this would have been removed if it was about a female.

NOT SPECULATING, a Deal I posted was just taken down and I hadn't even noticed this conversation until now.

    • "Talk about a double standard."
That's what you've just trolled. Without even an example of it happening here. You're hating on a theory, and one that isn't even valid.

      Lighten-up, pal.

      • -1

You're accusing me of hate? Tell to lighten up much to all the Abbott-haters on here "belittling" him and making fun of his "manhood"? Or do you enjoy trolling and making personal attacks to compensate for yours?

    • -2

      Talk about a double standard.

Precisely, Pretty pathetic of Groupon to begin with and then to have the OZBARGAIN mods not take action.

      • +2

Read the site wiki and educate yourself

  • -8

is this eligible for cashback? (otherwise known as: work-for-the-dole).

  • +3

he should be ashamed. The mere thought of a "man part" is disgusting and offensive. Only women should be allowed to reveal as much as they like……and shame on you if you look at them you pervy man. They wear clothing tight enough and small enough to reveal every detail BECAUSE IT'S COMFORTABLE, not to men can look…….unless they really like the man…..who is presumable not revealing the details of any man parts……unless he's a real hunk, then he may be allowed…but who knows.

As you can see, women just want to be comfortable and are really oppressed when it comes to clothing and men are either disgusting or pervs.

    • +8

I am deeply disappointed with your over-generalisation of males, I am disgusting and a perv.

    • +3

Thats a bloody sexist comment if ever I read one, you ought to be castrated….

    • .. PRUDE!!!

  • These would have been a must buy, but my budgie doesn't like confined spaces.

    • +1

Same, also, my "budgie" wouldn't like sharing that confined space with Abbott.

  • Does it work with the 15% off code?!!!!

  • barf

  • +2

A good april fools would be to give us an actual bargain.

  • Is it free shipping?

  • Fake - someone from SADIE would have cleaned them.

  • … It's free, so I cannot do price match with Officeworks?? LOL

  • It did actually sound like a genuine Groupon deal given that no one would pay a single penny for those budgie smugglers. So I clicked buy now and there comes the actual joke "15% off all deals". Why do Groupon wants play the same prank again and again all over the year. Didn't they already make fool of us with the Woolies gift cards deal few days back?

  • I thought he is more renowned for being a twat.

    • -2

.. yeah .. very much like yourself ..

  • +5

Reported - illegal listing. Smuggling of wildlife is illegal

The smuggling of one iconic Australian species into another iconic Australian item is totally illegal. Mr Abbot should use a pair of socks down there, and wait until the 2nd of April

    http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/wildlife-trade/la…

  • Can I use my Woolworths Groupon e-Gift card? Oh sorry, this comment has a Technical Fault.

  • •Size medium and “T.A.” initials on the tag

one of ozbargainer has this initial

  • Does it still have the Gina Reinhardt stench?

    • -1

.. yeah .. probably very much like yours ..

    • Being a liberal is disrespectful to the PM?

    • -2

BRING BACK JULIAR !! I love a good circus with lots of monkeys and clowns!!
      I want a carbon tax!
I want thousands of illegal immigrants!
I want policies that have had no thought put into them!!
      laba laba laba…

      • +4

LOL. Almost time for today tonight!

No seriously… i want to be kept in fear about migrants. I want to be told terrorists are going to kill me soon… and therefore i need to agree to data retention laws, extra powers for "border patrol", asio, etc. Not to mention the fact that i am going to love extra tax so rupert and gina can pay less.

I'd rather have a country run by monkeys and clowns than this mob.

  • Thanks but I don't want his dirty laundry :)
    Skiddies!

    • +5

Don't worry there won't be any skidmarks or the like, he hasn't been able to pass anything.

      • +1

        Except mandatory metadata

  • -6

This is a perfect example of How the Left can get away with any pathetic $#%(. Imagine the outrage on this forum if Gillard's Bra was posted as a bargain.

    • +1

Ewww, at that suggestion now I'm outraged!

      • I dry reached at the thought… :-(

    • +1

Guessing I missed the deal on tinfoil hats?

So blinded from hate, that you can't see the difference, the (mild) humour… Just apparent political angles, favouritism. Well, an example that doesn't exist.

      Should've gone to Specsavers.

    • +3

Dont shoot those above, they think it's funny., which it is, you have no idea if they would also laugh at Gillards bra.

The real point is Groupon, who as a business should probably keep away from politics of all sorts as it's going to offend 40-60% of their customers depending on how people vote at any one time and the demographics of their customer base.

BTW the vote up was to keep the discussion alive, rather than hide it.

    • +3

I would suggest that Mr Abbot has colluded with this foolery by wearing the garment.
If Ms Gillard were modelling her underwear in public then it would be held to the exact standard.

Besides it a sacred Australian right to have a chuckle at anyone who puts themselves on display in the ole smugglers.

      • +3

If Ms Gillard were modelling her underwear in public then it would be held to the exact standard.

FYI Mr Abbot isn't just modelling his underwear in public, He's a Surf Life saver and has been one for many many years.

        • +1

If he were wearing this just as a surf lifesaver sure but I believe there is more to the uniform ie shorts and vest these days plus it's not just the red ones he's photographed in.

When I was growing up it was understood that people wearing Speedos while in a contest or patrolling a beach was OK. Otherwise it was just posing. And posers exist only to chuckle at.

btw. being a Liberal does not make everything you do cool.

If you really want to compare apples to apples which would be more sensible. If Rudd or was seen posing on the beach in the smugglers he'd cop a razing. In fact Keating used to get one for being over dressed. Even the Hoff cops it.

        • +1

The red ones are not the uniform of the surf club he belongs to.

  • -1

Stating [April's fools] in the title kills the joke here. You ain't fooling anyone!

  • +2

Must have had a spill Motion in those Budgie Smugglers

  • +1

    Free is free…

  • May be a price error, how many in stock? LOL

  • +1

    15% GST on these?

  • Somehow I feel like this "ad" would be more at home on Craigslist under apparel.

  • +1

If you do not like it send it back by boat to Indonesia. By the way One Size fit all!!!

  • The Scoopon one is pretty funny.
    https://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/64821

  • Cummon, enought of those funny "cracks"

  • I recall when he was talking about banning the head scarf in parliament. A journalist approached him on the beach in those speedoes asked him "you;ve talked about people being overdressed in parliament, what do you say to those who say you underdress?" loved it
