Not as in you're given A1, A2, etc, but as in there are 50 seats (or spaces) in front of the stage and if you want to comfortably enjoy the show, you need a free ticket to access that area. Once at max capacity, no more tickets. Anyone who doesn't get a ticket can still come and watch it, but may not be as comfortable.
EDIT: Should add that I do think it's great you've brought the system of the show to our attention. There probably will be many parents who would want to know in advance and get there early with tickets rather than walk by and have to be awkwardly standing.
