Microsoft Introduces Office Lens for iOS, Android & Windows Phone

Microsoft today introduced this fabulous app totally free of charge. Here's the announcement.

Office Lens trims, enhances, and makes pictures of whiteboards and documents readable. Office Lens can convert images to editable Word, PowerPoint, and PDF files.

Office Lens is like having a scanner in your pocket. Like magic, it will digitalize notes on whiteboards or blackboards. Always find important documents or business cards. Sketch your ideas and snap a picture for later. Don't lose receipts or stray sticky notes again!

Scenarios:
- Capture and crop a picture of a whiteboard or blackboard and share your meeting notes with co-workers.
- Make digital copies of your printed documents, business cards, or posters and trim them precisely.
- Printed text will be automatically recognized (using OCR) so you can search for words in images and copy and edit them.

Features:
- With Whiteboard mode, Office Lens trims and cleans up glare and shadows.
- With Document mode, Office Lens trims and colors images perfectly.
- Pictures can be saved to OneNote, OneDrive, or your preferred cloud storage.
- Choose to convert images to Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), or PDF (.pdf) files that are automatically saved to OneDrive.

I've been using Office Lens on Windows Phone. It's an amazing app (though the PDF export needs bit of work done, it mixes the orientations up a lot).

    • I've just installed it on my iPhone and am blown away by how well it does what it claims to do!

Whiteboard mode is amazing IMO, you change the size of the recognised whiteboard so that it has only the information bits.

  • so it will convert to word and save so you can edit on a pc later or only on your phone?

any one used the android version.

It seems to work great. I haven't opened it up in word/powerpoint as those apps are only available on tablets at the moment.

Is there one for Windows 8 x86? I cannot find it in the Market place. Would be nice to have it so that owners of portable Win 8 devices like Dell Stream or Surfaces easily take notes in class.

    • i guess when win 10 is out the idea is all win apps with be universal. That means waiting though and this may not be updated either.

  • Guys, what is so good about this app? People ate saying it cannot do multiple pages documents and has many other issues…

There are loads of scanner apps like CamScanner, what is so special about the Lens? Is it all about ocr?

  • Had it ages ago for Windows Phone and its great
