It's been a while since they had cash back promos. Holding out for one.

Good price but I saw this and thought it was a better bargain

    • Now if there is a cash back promo…

this is an amazing deal lol, great find, any idea what the heads are or how much they cost?

      cheers!

      • They just fit standard Oral B heads, so you can get them for about 50c for generics or $2 for genuine ones on eBay.

        • +3

eBay Oral B heads are same as Micro SD/SD Cards……too much fakes on eBay!

        • +1

          @davidl2:
I got some cheap ones which I thought were real from an AU seller but they were in german language and I think they were either fakes or defects, very hard bristles!

        • Thank you :)

        • @Kossac:

Is there a difference between the fakes and the genuine? I noticed Kogan has 'compatible' ones at a decent price but if they're no good I'll probably pony-up for the genuine ones.

        • +1

@backslashio: I think they are genuine, but they are harder than the ones which came with the toothbrush.

    • +3

That is a great price for the IQ5000.
The difference between this PC1000 and your suggestion is the IQ5000 has 4 more cleaning modes, 3 more toothbrush tips and a "smart guide".
The IQ5000 is 3 models higher in terms of product line. This PC1000 is the same as the standard PC1000 in terms of motor/movement. This one just comes in black and with a travel case. Was released last year.
So depends on you if you think the features are worth the extra $$$.

      • difference also the brush head…..and refill brush head $….

    • +1

Excellent - thanks for that. Our current model is ready for replacement, and I thought just last night I should keep a lookout for a good deal on one of the reasonably spec'd models. The IQ5000 should do just fine - good buy at $105.

Free delivery on orders over $100, but I've opted for click and collect - one less thing to worry about the posty brining during the hols (and will be ready tomorrow).

      Thanks OP, and Ozvalue!

    • So this is exactly the same as the 'regular' 5000, except it has 3 Trizone heads instead of the standard round heads (which you can replace/swap)?
      (Prefer the regular round heads).

Edit: Looks like it does http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/IesAAOSwNSxVH470/$_57.JPG

      • +1

Correct! You can use the round range of heads if preferred / what you are used to.

        Style differences outlined here:

        http://www.dontforgettobrush.net/oral-b-professional-care-vs…

        • Cheers, that page explains it perfectly.
Where do you get your heads from/how much?
I have been told the Floss heads are the best (I see them on ebay for around $5 each (genuine) if bought in bulk of 9.

    • Great find.. almost should be a deal in itself, or added to headline.

While trying to find information about the 5000 series, came accross this review on Amazon:

      http://www.amazon.com/review/R6B2P00U3AN9K/ref=cm_cr_dp_titl…

Bluetooth Brush + Bluetooth Toilet = Heaven
This toothbrush is the perfect compliment to my Bluetooth toilet that tells my smartphone how close to the center I am peeing each day. I now brush my teeth perfectly and hit every tooth the exact same amount of time each day, and I always pee within 98% accuracy of the center of the bowl. My life could not be more complete.

  • Who makes the better toothbrush? Phillips or Oral-B?

    • +1

It's a brush, I hope you don't think there has been extraordinary innovations in this area to justify hundreds of dollars of expense, there hasn't been. Basically your paying for having the bristles move in a different way when one way is as good as another. What with it being just a brush.

Of course you are free to surmise that adding a microprocessor to a brush makes it worth hundreds of times more than just a brush. I'm sure it will do a good job cleaning like any other brush.

      • Well.. there is this thing: http://www.emmidentaustralia.com/
Not sure if it classifies as "extraordinary" but would be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried it personally?

    • I used to work in the dental field and did some research on brushes. There is a Cochrane review that compares clinical trials of regular toothbrushes as opposed to motorised ones (specifically the Oral B brush). The mechanical brush cleans 2x more plaque from teeth than a regular brush (conclusion from Cochrane review).

There are currently no published comparisons between Phillips and Oral B. The important thing to look for is the ability to clean between the teeth. The oscilating head of the Oral B brush is good for that. I am not as familiar with the Phillips brush, but you should be able to assess it based on its action.

    • I use the Phillips. Good clean I think, and my gum has stopped bleeding.

Both have (paid) third party studies to show they are more effective than the other.

I found that oral b brush heads are cheaper and available at supermarkets(50%off special now and then). Phillips brush heads you need to go to shavershop or online. Make sure you buy the genuine ones!!!

  • The possibility for a cash back promo is 50/50 i think. There wasn't one from Braun on shavers and Power Oral Care last year because a few retailers received negative feedback from customers who waited too long for the cash back to arrive. So from a retailer i know they decided not to support a cash back from Braun for two of their biggest sales periods.
Philips and Panasonic have been better with providing cash backs in a timely manner which is why they are still running. I think.

The heads on this unit is a standard Precision Clean head.

Philips and Oral-B will claim they each make the better toothbrush. It honestly comes down to personal preference.
In a nutshell would you rather move the toothbrush (philips) or allow the toothbrush to do the work for you (Oral-B)
They both clean your teeth but in just different ways.
The positive thing is both companies should provide a money back guarantee which will allow you to trial the toothbrush to see whether it suits you.

    Hope that helps.

3D brushing vs 2D. How delightfully vague and technical sounding. I'm sure it must be worth paying more.

  • Anyone have a genuine brush head supplier (e.g. on ebay) to recommend?

    • every ebay seller Ive tried for replacement heads has turned out to have fake items. i just buy from coles/woolies (when they have a sale) or shavershop these days.

    • I just buy from eBay and compare the packaging/heads to a known-genuine and known-fake copy and get a refund if fake.

A normal brush performs similarly. Not a bargain even though it's discounted. Thanks for posting it though.

  • Could do the Good Guys 120% of the difference refund too!

  • ask HN for price beat but declined saying not exactly same..

For those who are contemplating buying one of these electric toothbrushes, here is my experience of using an iq5000.

    Pros:
    - Does a brilliant job at cleaning your teeth and giving a clean polished feel. But only when the brush head is in good condition.
    - Given the brushing duration is controlled by the toothbrush, it prevents lazy quick 1 minute brushes typical of using manual brushing. Although my dentist recommends 5 seconds on each face of the tooth which is longer than the electric toothbrush recommendation of a total of 2 minutes for all teeth. *assuming you have all your teeth
    - With improved cleaning it should result in savings at the dentist from reduced dental work. My dentist noticed the difference.

    Cons:
    - The batteries in my iq5000, an older model to the one advertised has a terrible life. It now requires recharging after every use, this is with one year of use. Unless they have improved on the battery, to me this is the biggest issue with this electric toothbrush. Unless you replace the old battery yourself (need skills in soldering), you are better off buying a new electric toothbrush than having the battery replaced commercially.
    - All the different modes are gimmicks and most people will just use the standard brushing mode.
    - The smart guide is next to useless and not needed.
    - The cost of the iq5000 (capital and operating) is significantly higher than manual toothbrushes.
    - Danger of applying too much force on the tooth, even with the alert system, which can potentially damage your teeth.

Overall I would still recommend the electric toothbrush but do beware of the battery life.

I had the triumph series (without the LCD display) for years. Recently, I started getting my kids to use the electric toothbrush, and within few days, I noticed that it has gone noticeably weaker.. coincidence maybe?
I agree with @gamemaster, the battery life isn't great, so it's charging all the time.
The brush head rack it comes with is definitely useful now with everyone using electric brush.
The other modes are useless unless you have kids. I think the feather mode + softer brush head may be better for them.

    Perfect timing! Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP,

    Bought 2 1000s. No 5000s near me :(
