In the past few days I've seen some people have $300-$500 balance on their Opal card when tapping on the bus, and that makes me thinking… Did I missed recent discount on Opal recharge?
I personally didn't see any advantage from keeping that much balance on Opal except for convenience. Am I missing something here?

i have a spend 30 get 5 back (wife has that too) for the last 3 weeks and next 3 weeks
previously the easter gift card deal was spend 50 so i used opal recharge as well (only town hall and chatswood have these)
I think the max is $250, so you may not have been looking over people's shoulders correctly.
A motivated person could buy more than one opal card, and charge them all up only when there are woolworths specials, so they can take maximum advantage of the discount. But unless they are registered, you are out of luck if you lose it, so comes with a risk.
