9web Being Taken over by VentraIP Prices Changing: (

Well, i was very happy with these guys as i moved all of my hosting over to them. Unfortunately it seems VentraIP is taking over 9web and we will be losing our discounts and such. Very dissapointed :/

Very common amongst web hosting companies unfortunately.

    1. Do deals with ridiculously low price
    2. Get loads of customers with very little profit margin
    3. Sold to bigger hosting company at number-of-customers x $xx/customer = profit
    4. Rinse & repeat

Whereas bigger hosting companies would need to increase the price to support staff & better infrastructure.

  • This is indeed very sad news, and I've recently put a site up on 9web but will now move it across to my rack servers hosting plan instead and not renew 9web when both my plans expires in 10 months… I've compared the current plans ventra offer and there is no way on earth they offer 'in almost every case you are receiving better value for money with VentraIP Australia'.. Reckon the 'almost' constitutes 1% of 9web customers.

Of course there are many other hosters out there that offer affordable hosting (locally and overseas) and as much as I would like to support local companies, if we as consumers are merely bums on seats—- err I mean files on a web server then we will take our business elsewhere.

  • I feel like I signed a contract with the Devil.

the price from VentraIP is $59.40 per year! 47 dollars higher that what I signed up for.

Someone was even boasting having 18 websites with 9WEB just few months back, well good luck paying those bills mate!

    • I just noticed this thread, sorry for the late reply. The 18 websites person is me. Except I don't have 18 websites, I have 18 domain names (mostly variations of the same - .net.au, hyphens etc). I only have one hosting service so I don't think I'll have any problems paying my hosting bill when it falls due but thanks for the well wishes anyway :)

Zuver (VentraIP's budget arm) have a $24/year plan which is reasonable if you were with 9web and didn't want the hassle of switching hosting providers. But yes I will be switching hosting providers when my current plan runs out.

      • thanks for the suggestion, I'll go for Zuver once I can't find anyone else more decent, at least the 10gb is a huge jump from the 1GB i'm getting.

  • I paid for another year (at $12) just yesterday, for one of my accounts. Too bad they weren't all due then.

I actually left VentraIP for 9web, after VentraIP put up their prices (doubled the price as I recall).

    • I paid on the 7 April for another year of hosting starting 14 April 2015 - then received the VenturaIP acquisition email on the 9 April. :(

Now trying to get a refund and will move site to cloudoo hosting account. Not interested in going to the trouble of migrating everything to VentraIP then having to move again April 2016, or staying there and paying $$ for rarely my used project site next year.

  • Well, i guess most of us will have until the end of the year. There will hopefully be more deals with reputable companies by then

  • Was waiting for a thread on this. However, to be honest, performance at 9web has been terribly slow. Yes, you get what you pay for but this news doesn't shock me. Price very low, servers/speed terribly slow.

    • I was under the impression that 9web was simply a reseller of VentraIP

      • Then performance at VentraIP will be just as "good" :) However, I thought they had a cpanel reseller account and were reselling that and providing their own support.

  • Anyone have a good alternative?

    • Ditto

    • You could ask the Cloudoo rep if they are planning another 50% off Recurring - Shared Web Hosting offer.

I took up that offer for another project and then moved my 9web site there last month.

      • Better to use Zuver for $24/year since they are VentraIP (they are the budget brand of VentraIP, not a reseller adding profit margins). Plus their hosting plan for $24/year has better features across the board than even your $60/year plan.

Choose annual billing and enter code zuver90 to get 90% off first year. Cheaper than my $1 a month 9web host.

        • @Vita85: I think that is first month only when you lock in for a year.
