What is the most affordable way to watch the new Game of Thrones season in Australia?

With the government introducing tougher crackdown on illegal downloads, and with foxtel offering Game of Thrones only on their highest package, can Ozbargainers find a tricky legal way of being up to date with the latest season?

Is using a VPN the best?
Is there a way of getting the relevant foxtel channels for cheap?
Can episodes be bought on a 'per unit' or 'per view' basis?

Brace yourselves, the season is coming.

    • Does anyone here actually use HBO now's subscriptions?

  • Don't download it then. Stream it from one of the many Sites.

  • The internet is about to break as the first 4 episodes of Game of Thrones S05 has just been leaked on many sites.

    • Hmmm… how odd. That is a big screw up from HBO.. there will be blood once they figure out who leaked it..

      • It'd be better if people do not use torrent to get these episodes, HBO must have released their blood hounds by now, too risky!

Most affordable way would be watch it at a neighbors on their Foxtel using their TV and electricity. Maybe see if you can get them to throw in a free cuppa.

  • Cheapest legal way would be to sign up to HBO Now. A VPN is needed though. You will be able to buy the episodes on itunes, etc but only after they have all aired.

  • Many will still use torrents and like sex their is a safe way to do it and unsafe ways

use a vpn, dont upload/share & be aware that theft is theft, even if you dont get cought your kids will know you stole it
and the same goes for using a seedbox (offshore torrent, then encrypted file download with filezilla

  • Can anyone recommend a good VPN? I have been looking at tunnelbear.

    Are they easy to use?

Paying for and using HBO Now and a proxy/VPN/Web Browser extension is not a legal method of viewing Game of Thrones in Australia.
The only legal way to watch Game of Thrones in Australia is through Foxtel, as they own the exclusive broadcast rights to it.
You might get the feelgood factor from actually paying for it, and the money goes to support the creator of the content, but it is just as illegal as torrenting it.

    • It may not be legal, but at least HBO and the crew are getting their share approprietly. What are the chances of getting caught this way though?
Having to subscribe to foxtel's most expensive package for at least a year to watch one show is robbery.

      • I would suggest the chances are relatively high. You need a US iTunes account, and have purchased US$ iTunes credit.

This is if it is pursued at all, which I doubt. But, Foxtel could still have a claim of that lost revenue. That's not to say that it isn't expensive, or not completely disproportionate for what you want it for.

Mistakes, its not illegal to download, its illegal to SHARE content, if your cough't you can be asked to pay for the rights youve shared and is torrents especialy that can be thousands or millions of connection! Very expensive under the law ~ beware!

Its illegal for Netflix to broadcast to OZ, US righted content, its not illegal to watch Netflix US.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND, whats legal and illegal is not the same for both parties. Nor is it the same thing to download, switch on or insert tape/dvd and the act of distribution/sharing things you don't have the rights to!

I will admit, the rights/media industry try to blur this in the media as to them they are the same thing, your circumventing all that small print at the start/end of every broadcasted movie or tv show since the beginning of time.
