Help Finding a Budget Laptop

Hi all,

I'm looking for a budget laptop ($300 - $500) that will only be used to run an older version of Photoshop (CS3) and to surf the net to find images. Absolutely nothing else. Will a budget laptop be good enough to do this?

Anyone know of any good priced laptops in this price range? Thanks heaps in advance to everyone!

Will a budget laptop be good enough to do this?

Yes, plenty fine. Here are the CS3 min requirements: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements.html#m…

Something like this would do fine (for $369): http://www.msy.com.au/notebooks/13600-gigabyte-q25m-uma-4c01…

Even though it's not a speedy processor (by todays standards - still fine for CS3) you've got decent RAM and a decent onboard graphics processor which will help out with Photoshop.

You could go even cheaper if you really wanted to depending on how tight the budget is.

    • Thanks for all your information… REALLY helpful!

How does the $369 one compare to the next price up, the Acer Aspire for $389 (http://www.msy.com.au/qldonline/notebooks/15163-acer-aspire-…)?

Am I right in thinking that they're similar specs but the Aspire has a faster CPU? Or is the Gigabyte better value as it doesn't have a big brand name behind it? Sorry for the noobish questions!

Gigabyte is a massive brand too. The CPU on the Gigabyte is better, the Acer is a dual core CPU and the Gigabyte is a quad core, so you can't just compare the numbers outright.

The Acer is 11" vs the Gigabyte 15" so you're likely paying for the compact form of the Acer.

Performance wise the Gigabyte wins hands down.

        • Thanks heaps, you've been really helpful! Appreciated. Gigabyte it is! :)

  • Do you want one of these?
