Purchasing a 50" TV Advice

Looking to buy a new 50" (or larger) TV and looking for some general advice/ guidance. I have always purchased Sony entertainment systems in the past, currently have a 4 year old Sony 40" LCD but would consider switching to another brand. I generally don't use the smart features on TV's as I have a media player and Apple TV connected with Netflix etc.

  • Which is currently the best brand in TV, Sony/ Samsung/ LG?
  • Where can you typically get the best value, Dick Smith/ Good Guys/ JB Hi-Fi?
  • Is it worth buying a 4K TV right now?

Features important to me;

  • 50" plus screen size
  • High refresh rate for gaming and movies
  • At least 4 HDMI inputs

Any comments appreciated, thanks

  • I Currently have a Panasonic 50" Tv and is a Solid TV, if you don't mind paying extra Sony is recommended as well :) (avoid Samsung or LG).
Dicksmith seems to always be having deals so be worth to look at them first before jbhifi or the good guys.
I don't think a 4k tv is worth right now..

    • Why avoid Samsung, have the quality of their TVs went downhill? I always though Samsung was one of the best TV brands out there?

      • Nothing against them, but from my experience I had a previous Samsung and LG tv (32") and they seemed to decrease its picture quality within a couple of years, that was 4 years ago, but as I currently have a Panasonic and Sony tv 50" I can recommend them with no issues maintaining a good picture quality (mostly used for games and movies as you require).

    • +1

They still are, well and truly. In most of the reviews I've seen they score higher than panasonic…
LG aren't bad either. Not sure why they're been dismissed.

  • EOFY sales aren't that far away if you wanna wait.

    • Difficult question, but any ideas what kind of deals will pop up EOFY? What should I be expecting?

Missed the boxing days sales of 50" Panasonics going for $600 and am pretty keen to snap something like that up

      • How long is a piece of string? :P

I believe retail has been doing it pretty tough this year so far, so I'd expect EOFY sales this year to be close to boxing day sales. But obviously no way of knowing!
