Not Happy with Picture Quality of My New Sony KDL50W700B TV. What to Do?

I picked up my Sony KDL50W700B over the weekend and am not impressed with the picture quality. The picture doesn't look crips, and a lot of the shows look pixelated. Could this be to do with my antenna cable? Or something non tv related? Look forward to reading your advice…

  • what shows, a lot of TV shows are poor resolution and look bad on any screen. Older shows are zoomed in so the fill the screen more making the picture blurry - Simpsons, Seinfeld etc are examples.

what shows and channels? What does the News look like?

What does a dvd/bluray look like?

    • Thanks for your reply. The family guy looked very pixelated. The news and football looked a bit blurry, and when in motion the faces looked very blurry…

      • is that Foxtel or Free To Air?

        • Free to air

  • +3

Broadcast quality is complete rubbish with poor bandwidth in general, zooming in on a poor image to begin with is going to look even worse. As the old saying says 'garbage in garbage out'. Have you tried watching a blu-ray @ 1080p? That is the better test of the capabilities. Did you at least do a basic calibration? TVs come out of the box with the brightest and most unrealistic settings to wow you in store. Choose a cinema mode or something in the picture settings menu - does this make a difference?

  • I can share my experience. Initially we were having reception through Transact FTTP cable and the picture quality was very good.
Then in the process of transfer to NBN, iiNet installed antenna. The reception and picture quality was not satisfactory. I complained to iiNet and the technician came. He told me that the signal is good and meets Australian standards, so it is my perception. I could not do anything.
After few months of use, my experience is that some channels like ABC, Nine are good while Seven and other ad channels are not satisfactory. The picture quality varies a lot on day to day basis and the program on the time. Due to some reason, the news are of best picture quality for all the channels, any time a day. Blu-ray is excellent.

  • can't use auzstralian free to air to test your tv

    try a full HD blu-ray

  • try ONE HD in 1,080i

  • as mentioned - best to try a proper 1080P video, either via blu-ray or even youtube (if the tv has access)

    • this complaint has been posted many a time

havent seen an 50"+ TV of any brand under $1k that did any good at SDTV
