Earphone design:
The earphones have been completely redesigned. Gone are the piston like full aluminum frame. Instead we now have a "Spiral" design where the tip points towards the ear (see photo for more info). This is done to improve the comfort of the earphones. The body of the earphones is plastic and with an aluminium backing. The back vent is now large circular vent.
Driver (diaphram) Design:
Xiaomi 3.0 pistons now employ a "sandwiched" driver design, where a titanium alloyed diaphram is stuck between two PET membranes. Xiaomi claims this to the be only IEM with this type of sandwiched design. This rather unique design is implemented to drastically improve sound quality in base, mid and high sound ranges. In addition, this design improves the sound balance.

Based on the impression on head-fi, sound quality is better on the 3, but the build quality is better on the 2.1

I personally found this model very V shaped in terms of how it sounds.
Got mine from other vendor, passed the authetication test via QR code.
I don't have Piston 2.1 to compare it to though.
Still contempting if I should buy a pair… I prefer headphones but at this price… I'm kind of tempted…
At this price, I frankly prefer KSC75 + PortaPro headband combination over this. It's just my preference though.
Plus, it's unfair to compare headphones and earphones without considering their strengths and weaknesses.
I bought the earphone to listen to music outside without worrying too much about the noises from outside and being comfortable.
I think it'd do just that without any problem.
As someone who listens to a lot of podcasts, would v3 be any good?
I have no clue. It feels comfortable enough for me, but I never liked spending that much on the earphones.
So my experiences with earphones are limited to: T1e, MX275, ue200, etc etc in other words, budget earphones that I bought because they were cheap.
