Unlimited Calls and Texts + 7GB of 4G Data for $19.90 for The First Month - Amaysim

1220
SAVEBIG

After shaking up the competition with their very competitive pricing for their new 4G plans (which have also shifted to per KB billing), it seems like Amaysim have decided to 'up their game' even further

They are adding more data to ALL their plans while keeping the price unchanged.

This is not a promotional or time-limited offer but rather a permanent increase to their data allowances.

The $44.90 plan will now have 5GB of included data instead of the current 4GB while the $54.90 plan will have 7GB of included data instead of the current 6GB.

Both plans will continue to have unlimited calls and texts to any Australian number.

The $29.90 plan which has unlimited texts and 500 minutes of calls will also get a small 'bump' to its data allowance to 2GB from the current 1.5GB.

So far, this is just an outline of their 'business as usual' offering coming into effect on Thursday, April 23rd.

What is a bargain though (under the Ozb rules) is the fact that until 31/05/2015, you can get ANY of their unlimited plans (yep, including the one which comes with 7GB of data) for only $19.90 for the first month.

You can read more about this in my detailed review

Fair disclosure: Other than being an Amaysim customer, I also participate in their affiliate program. The review on my site contains affiliate links.

So over half price for first month, then full price thereafter? Am I missing something here?

    • +3

Yeah. This isn't very impressive past the first month.

      • +10

Can you point out anyone else in Australia who will, for $54.90 a month give you ALL of the following:

        • 7GB of 4G data with per KB billing (and no restrictions whatsoever on tethering);
        • Unlimited texts and Calls (including 1800 and ALL 13/1300 numbers as well as voicemail retrieval); and
        • NO LOCK IN CONTRACT

I'm not having a go at you or anything. Just genuinely asking if you know of anyone who would even come close to this offer.

If you do, I'd greatly appreciate a heads-up

        Cheers :)

          Optus $2 dfays 500mb per day x 30 = 15gb.
          cost? $60 per 30 days

        • +1

          Don't you mean 6gb gin?

        • +2

          @holden93:

I was thinking of the Optus thing too. I think (not 100% certain) there is also the fact that, if u dont send a text/call or use data, it doesnt bill the $2 for that day. Hence if you disappear off to another country for a week and change sims, no need to pay for that period.

        • +2

@mirridon: "The $44.90 plan will now have 5GB of included data instead of the current 4GB while the $54.90 plan will have 7GB of included data instead of the current 6GB."

        • -2

@ATangk: if you have a smartphone like i do you would have to turn off data as mine auto checks for emails and facebook and other things which uses data without you even touching your phone.

        • +2

          @holden93:

Fair enough. I'm familiar with this one/

The Only problem I have with this deal is that if you happen to have a day where you 'binge' on data (e.g. hammer Netflix), the 500MB per day might be a problem as it won't be enough.

For me personally, I would much rather know my overall data allowance for the month and be able to use it as I please throughout that period.

However, I agree with you that for people for whom 7GB is not enough to get through the month, this offer from Optus might be more appropriate.

        • @mirridon: It goes up to 7GB from tomorrow

        • @holden93:

Im not one to need 500mb/day or call or text, so i dont actually use the $2/day plan. A measly 1gb/month is enough for me.
Also i just read that any usage at all will incur the $2 charge for that day.

        • @ginmi: If one day you use more then 500mb it automatically takes another $2 and you gain another 500mb data but after you use the second 500mb thats all for the day.

if you wants to stream netflix connect to broadband where it doesnt cost a ton for data.

You'd be surprised how many people (including in metro areas) in Australia of 2015 still can't get fixed broadband at home.

And yet we call ourselves a 'developed nation' ;)

I'm on a grandfathered Optus prepaid plan.

          $29 for 45 days. $500 calls/texts, 5GB data.
Oh and if I pay via the Optus App it's $26.

          So $0.57c a day, $11 calls/sms, 111MB day average. So $17 per 30 days.

Even if I needed tripe the data/calls/sms I'd still be better off than Optus' current prepaid offers.

Kinda sad that unless you burn through $33 worth of calls/sms that their plans 2 years ago are better than their plans now.

        • It is a great deal without a doubt. Then there is something I like to call quality. You get what you pay for.

        • @ATangk: exactly right

        • @andyD101: I keep my private mobile on the same plan $26 for 45day's, It's brilliant, and as far as you get what you pay for,,well it works brilliantly for me

        • +1

@ginmi No lock in contract in the sense, can I get this for 19.90 for first month and then cancel it? ;)

        • +1

          @ginmi:
or at a half decent speed
copper lines around here are 30-40yrs old designed to run housed on 4000sqm+ blocks not sub 400sqm, so in many places 3g/4g can eaisly be faster, as mentioned by members here from time to time

          my .02c

        • @upuls: you sure can.

        • @andyD101:

I assume the godfathered plan is an old one. Pretty sweet deal with that data.

        • @andyD101:

The 'good ol' Woolworths cap ey?

Your call rates are probably pretty ordinary but $29 for 5GB of data with 45 days of expiry is outstanding. Don't ever let go of that one! :)

Btw, do they give you access to the full Optus network with this one, including 4G?

        • @ginmi:

Ah so it is actually not optus but woolworths…didn't think optus itself would have given that great a deal!

        • +2

The old Woolworths Mobile plan that's now switched over to Optus directly?

          $26 =
          5GB data^
$30 premium credit (valued at about $15AUD*)
$470 fake credit crap. Enough for easily 10hours+ of calls.
          45 days expiry.

$26-15 = $11/45 days if using that method.

*Completely depends where you use it. Using it on online games then selling the content you gain equates to as much as $15AUD.
^Rolls over and stacks up to a maximum of 15GB on recharges. Credit (excluding data) doesn't rollover though.

        • @holden93: This is the best deal going.

        • I'm still on this too, I can't see a reason to move anytime soon, 3G speed is plenty for me.

        • @dyl:

I've got this one, what do you mean by $30 premium credit, how do you use that to buy and sell stuff in online games, help with this would be great thanks?

Also you can tether with the right phone, my old lumia 800 could tether, but my iphone can't, has to do with the software blocking.

        • @l7unningMan:

          Method 1:
          League of Legends.

Buyer puts your phone number in
          You reply Y
          Buyer pays you $x PayPal

          Method 2:
          Runescape.

          You buy bonds
          sell for ingame currency (GP)
          sell GP for PayPal.

I personally use method 2, it equates to 3 bonds which is about 30m. Transferred to PayPal, that's about $13.50 AUD ($10.5 USD) at 0.35/M. You're left with $5 credit. I usually sell the extra credit as spins on RS (method similar to league method) for ~$2USD if I can be bothered.

      • Exactly my thoughts. Not worth porting in/out.

  • +1

Very good deal for people who wants more data.

    • -4

More data means nothing if downloading speeds are slow and there is poor reception in most places. I switched over to boost for $40 a month where I have 3gb of USEABLE Telstra data instead of this fairy make believe 5gb+ data.

      • 4G plus seems to do the trick where I am. Sorry it hasn't been the same for you…where are you in coobapedie or something?

        • +1

I had problems in Sydney cbd

      • Raima: Do you have a modern phone that is capable of receiving all the LTE bands that optus has on offer? That is really the key to a happy experience on the Optus network.

        • Using iphone5 which is lte capable.

      • Raima, Your reason to neg the deal doesn't seem appropriate. You are negging Amaysim (optus) deal mentioning issues with Boost(Telstra). Not everyone has issues with poor reception. I am using Amaysim and the reception is ok.

        • I believe it's appropriate if it's a service that does not deliver acceptable usage conditions. Otherwise I'm paying $45pm for a poor service which is not a bargain.

  • Read the fine print too

50% off 1st month New orders only, to 30 April. USE CODE: 4G4YOU

    • SAVEBIG code ($19.90) code will be better value for the $45/$55 plans

  • Absolutely no signal down where I am.

Why does this read like an ad? Is this copied from somewhere, or is there a missing association?

    • +1

Agreed. If it reads like an ad & smells like an ad, then it's probably an ad

    • -2

      Is this copied from somewhere

No. All original content (like everything on our site) :)

      missing association

I am not a rep and am not associated in any way with Amaysim other than participating in their affiliate program (which is how I know about this change in advance before it is shown on the website). I am also an Amaysim customer (and a happy one at that).

However, there are NO affiliate links in this post as per the OzBargain community rules.

      Enjoy your evening :)

      • +1

        "Our site"?
Who are the collective you're referring to?

        • +15

He is an editor for the Spending Hacker website.

The reason why this post reads like a ad and lacks credibility is because he puts too much emotion into his writing. Just give us the numbers man — we decide if it's a bargain or not..

        • +3

@scrimshaw: He's also hoping people people click through to his completely unbiased "review" that he's put in the deal description, which contains around 20 links to the Amaysim website with his affiliate code.

          @pmupsinep:

As we're dealing with ginmi I will revert to bold and italics to also get my point across.

Unlike genuine sites like Ozbargain, where income is passive and a fortunate side effect for its owner, ginmi's websites are all geared for the sole purpose of income generation for no one other than himself.

He claims "Last year I made 6 figures from online sales. This year will be in the 5 figures range." source I doubt he actual does, but just the fact he makes claims like this suggests that helping bargain hunters online is not his primary focus.

He has neglected\refused to answer\lied (whatever you want to call it) about being affiliated or linked to the companies he pimps. He has unique "voucher" codes supplied by commissionfactory, whom he tries to earn money from. See for yourself - check his post history. His "spending pretender" website is littered with them. He only posts deals if there is a buck to be made for himself - no exceptions.

He's one of those guys that pretends to have great business success in the hope of one day landing a naive, uneducated cash cow so he can milk them for all they are worth via his 'motivational coaching' websites source % source2. People like ginmi are below scum.

Reads like spam. Including the posters additional comment.

Anyhow wonderful deal other than it's not Telstra :p

    jv would be proud

  • Someone try to convince me that I'd be better on prepaid than my current post paid Amaysim arrangements (~$2/month calls/SMS + $100/year data plan).
Yeah I don't make many calls or SMSes, and if I do, the 60-second rule applies :-P

    • What plan?

      • 10GB data plan + As You Go mobile plan

        • ta

        • @cowiie: No, you're supposed to be convincing me out of it, not the other way around!

        • @muncan: Oh, then it's a terrible plan. If you decide to have a long conversation, you'll wipe your credit in 40 mins lol

So you have a dual sim mobile? Or do you keep swapping sims when you need Internet access

  • pretty good plans for calling within Oz, the only downside is it need to pay extra for international calls.

You can read more about this in my detailed review

Ah yes, your completely unbiased and trustworthy review which contains around 20 links to the Amaysim site with your affiliate link hidden in it.

      • +17

I don't know about you, but I get a huge of whiff of conflict of interest when someone intrusively inserts an affiliate URL hyperlink 20 times into an unbiased independant "review"

      • +2

        From your site:
"However, if you like to stream music (through services such as Pandora and Spotify) and especially video (through YouTube, the various TV channels apps and now also dedicated streaming services such as Netflix) while on the go, being restricted to 3G speeds only can make for quite a frustrating experience."

Given that most audio is streamed at 128-192 kbit (<0.3mbit), and video is up to around 3mbit, how were the existing 3G HSPA+ networks not suitable for these purposes given that they support speeds up to 21Mbit? Is that just an 'off the cuff' statement based on assumption or do you have some data supporting that the existing 3G networks are unable to stream music or video at a reasonable bitrate?

I read your website but it didn't offer much more than you have put above, albeit in a more salespitchy manner. I can see why other commenters detect some bias, with such emotive writing and use of bold and italic all the way through your writing.

      • +4

you do realise that you cannot link to a site that has your personal affiliate link. Its against the rules on ozbargain.

    Question.

The 4GB plan used to be $39.90. Then they went to 5GB for $44.90. Now they are 4GB for $44.90.

    Wtf is going on?

This has all happened in the space of 5 months.

  • yeah, sound great until foud out that they use Optus, which only has 2 bars of reception at my place and 4G or not doesn't make any different.

  • I don't know why but my data finishes very quick on optus and amaysim 4g compare to voda and telstra.

    • I felt the same too….
Is there anything to do with the per Kb charging and per Mb charging theory?
Now that AMAYSIM is going for the per Kb charging….hopefully this can reduce the chewing rate of data….we can only hope….and hope that once they get bigger, they will not get "killed" like a particular kogxx network…

  • +2

can u cancel after the first month ?

    • -1

      Why bother?

    • All their plans are month to month. There are no contracts.

      • -1

Do you need to remember to cancel after 29 days? I just want it for the data.

        • +1

If you're on postpaid or autopay on card, just set the plan to not renew anytime in the first month. It then reverts back to pay as you go.

If you're on prepaid and no credit card set, it will revert to pay as you go if no further funds are available.

There are also various size data packs available if you only want it for the data. Eg. 4gb for $29.95 or 2.5gb for $19.95, just buy a sim card and a data pack.

  • +1

i could be mistaken but my friend told me the following code 4G4YOU worked for him to get 50% off his first month

  • +1

so much bold and italic… ugh

  • -1

A guy at work said that you can't tether your phone to your laptop with this plan
    Is that right?

  • Can i buy this now and use it after 19th May?

    • -2

No, it comes loaded ready to go and active.

      • Is this a joke? What if it takes 5 days to arrive in the mail?

      • I'm afraid you are mistaken. Read my comment below

    • You sure can.

I have done things like that in the past myself.

I believe you have 30 days from the day you first order your SIM to activate it.

Even after the 30 days have passed, you would still be able to activate the SIM but you would need to call them and have them activate it manually (as opposed to you doing it yourself through the website) as the SIM has become 'stale' (that's the term they used when I tried this trick personally myself).

Obviously, if you buy the SIM now and don't activate it for a few months and then call them and ask to activate it, they will most likely tell you to take a hike ;)

      • Thanks.

  • Was just about to sign up for this. Anyone have any feedback about them ? Any referral codes ?

    • Get up to $56 back via http://www.cashrewards.com.au/amaysim (click through from CR to Amaysim)

I signed up for the $45 unlimited service last night, using the code for half price first month, and $10 referral credit, but I didnt read about the CashRewards cashback until a few mins later… DOH :(

      • Have to be signed up for three months minimum too for cashrewards i believe

        • Thats totally understandable - I would not expect to get $56 cashback after only being with them for 1 month with no commitment to stay longer, and after only paying out ~$20 or so.

Besides, changing phone providers is a little bit of a hassle. Ive been paying $90 a month for the past 2 1/4 years so this sure beats that.

    • +1

The referal links at the bottom of the post should gove you $10 credit and the person "referring" you $10 too i believe if they haven changed it. The links are set up to randomly choise a fellow ozbargainer. Or you can search for the amaysim referral page and pick one you like from the 241 listed, mine's there somewhere ;)

      • I only got $5 ~ i think that might be due to it being 50% off? referral credit that is

        • May have been changed, i haven't had a referral for a while

      • Tell me your referral code and I'll use that. Just one question about their customer service and service in general what has been your worst experience with them ?

        • Didn't realise they changes the referal system around, its only via the "random" one provided, I'm not greedy happy to share the love around here so feel free to use the random link above.
I only have prepaid data packs with them, no phone service but I've never had trouble the few times I've contacted them by phone and even chat to reset/recharge the 10gb/365 day data packs

  • if i have amaysim sim card already, am i eligible for this deal?

    • Nope. new customers only.

However, becoming a "new customer" again is very easy.

You just port out your number to another provider and then sign up again. You will be "new" again.

I've probably done it myself over 20 times in the last few years. ;)

  • Why can't amaysim offer this deal for every month? I'm sure people are sick of Vaya and their customer service.

    • +6

They are probably trying to run a business.
