Note these cables aren't black. I got a few from DSE a week ago and all of them were the standard blue.

  • I went to pick up the 15m cable yesterday after ordering on line and was told they were out of stock . Other stores may still have some .
The 10M I got was indeed blue as mentioned by the guy above .

  • Same as Scrimshaw. All my ordered cables were dark blue

  • Thanks OP bought a 10m cable C&C

  • Mine where black but very stiff unsuitable for anything but fixed eg in wall installation.

    • Did it come coiled? :-)

      • Yes. In packet and tightly coiled with 1 inch diameter at centre. Not as shown in image posted.

        • Hows the attenuation?

    • +2

There's a somewhat rigid plastic divider inside Cat-6 cable. If you think that's stiff, try bending the solid core stuff!

    • That's the nature of Cat 6. If you want a flexible cable get a Cat 5e, you won't notice the difference in everyday use.

    • Rubbish. Suitable for anywhere you use cat5e cable

Mine where black but very stiff

    That what she said.

  • so the bullnose wallplate means you just drill a hole poke in straight through? wouldnt it be better using a proper wall plate and having it done right ?

    • Bullnose plate is the pro way of running complete cables through the wall. It requires the usual rectangle hole to be cut in the plaster, and a metal clip/bracket on the inside (to screw to)… just like a powerpoint.

Reverse Bullnose (bulge is internal) is 'cleaner', but can't win them all.

    • I run my tv power cord, aerial, two hdmi, network cable and usb from behind the tv down in the wall to my entertainment unit. This saves me having to buy a plate for each connection and getting a sparky. You also save by not having to have an extra cable in the wall to connect the plates.

      • so you have one bullnose plate near the tv and one near the entertainment unit for the cables to come out of ?

        • That's correct. Directly below, otherwise the studs of the wall would be in the way if you move it sideways.

  • Any codes still working?

  • Cheers OP :)

I get mine from msy, which have regular specials. currently 20m cat6 $5. Hard to beat. Good to see DSE start to bring their prices down.

    • +2

msy have 'cat6e' cable which firstly isn't even a standard, and secondly more often than not can't even do 100mbit let alone gigabit speeds.

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1425962

      • Yep, if they work at all you might find yourself at 10Mbit or even half-duplex… terribly inconsistent. I've seen a single one manage 1Gbit, and that was only if you position it juuuust right. They're cheap because they've got almost no copper inside them and have never heard of quality control.

I should cut one open… probably Al wiring…

That post is at least 4 years old, so I hope their stock has changed somewhat since then.

I purchased a total of 40 2m and 3m Cablelist-branded "CAT6e" cables from MSY in December 2013 for an office rollout, replacing crappier CAT5/CAT5E cables, and to date have not needed to replace one.

I also purchased a 100m cable from MSY in December 2014 (might have been their Partlist brand) to have my home cabled and to date all ports are working at gigabit speeds (that said, I should test the farthest room as although patched nothing is connected to it).

        • Same, I bought about 10, all cat6e and used with GB switches and pc's throughout the house, not a problem with one. Most between $2-8. I know there is no 6e spec, but I suspect the quality of the msy and cheap dse stuff is the same.
Buy where cheap, don't get ripped off for cabling.

    • Thanks for the tip, however I have bought some from MSY before seeing the comment above. Hopefully they aren't that bad.

  • Any cheap 0.5m cat 6 network cables?

  • Very good! finally got to use my gift cards from last year, was worried they were going to expire…

  • Not much left in stock for collection…..I had to pay for delivery $9.95 :(

  • Bought stuff… paid… called up and told no stock left and they are refunding me. Melbourne CBD store.

  • Ordered earlier today for Belconnen (ACT) pick up. No 1m left but 15m left.

Went there to collect my order in rockingham, was told they had none left as they were mostly stolen……Thats rockingham for you

  • Thanks OP. Purchased the 15m from Parramatta Westfields. Still in stock if anyone else wants to purchase.

  • Bought a 15 meter cable click and collect at the elizabeth store waiting for email

  • Cheers OP. Bought 2 x 15m.
    :)

  • Thanks OP bought a few 15m cables to replace the ones bought from MSY which don't sync. at gigabit speeds.

  • Shame there are no 25m - 30m cables.

    Good price though

  • Thanks OP, bought 9 cables. I share the previous poster's thoughts, 20m would have been perfect for me but I'm not complaining. Great deal.

This is cheaper than the 20% off ebay deal last year, though I chose quality cables so if these compare in quality I'll be extra happy.

  • Got an SMS from dick smiths will be picking up my cable after work tomorrow

  • thanks op. bought one 15m one

  • Round 2 at my attempt to score a 3m cable that is actually in stock.

Dick has raised the price from $1.54 >>> $1.57. This is unacceptable.

    • Sometimes I can't understand where the dick is coming from …

  • FYI I just put through an order for a 10m one. Still working as of 7:50AM EST. Says $49.98 but checking out brings the price back down in PayPal. Got an invoice for $3.51.

  • I clicked through now definitely expired deal

  • Thx OP, bought some (last night)

  • While picking up my 2x 15m ones from Parramatta Westfield just after lunch today-
Worker: So were you just randomly browsing the website and came upon the special or something?
Me: (Not knowing the etiquette of introducing the uninitiated to OzB or keeping it under wraps still) No, it was posted to a discounts website and people saw that it was a bargain so it became a popular buy.
Worker: Yeah, so many orders have been put through, I wondered where everyone found out about it. We had 30-odd pickups last night alone.
Me: I would've been one of them but I hadn't received my 'ready to pickup' text/email yet.
Worker: That's because we were too busy with the others last night!

    OzB'ed.

    • My story

Manager: You bought the big order of cables?
      Me: That's right.
Manager: You're lucky, I've been cancelling every order that came through once I noticed a rush.
      Me: Oh, why's that?
Manager: We need to keep some for when customers wanting them at full price.
Me: (Bites tongue!) Lucky me then… (voice trailing off as I leave the store)

Full price, really? People actually pay that? Didn't say it, but thought it.
Same store was foul about the Eneloop Pros during the last EBAY 20% sale too.

PS: I never mention OzBargain when prompted, was in that situation once years ago at Dominos getting $2.50 pizzas (got about 15 of them for a big party), the manager said it costs them more than $2.50 to make and was pissed off such a code even existed, and demanded to know where it came from. I gave a similar explanation, I figured it's in our best interests those types away from here :)

    • Similar story on my C&C from Stafford QLD, worker was shocked I picked up this bargain so much so he flipped his POS screen to show me the regular retail price of $50 for 10m cable. He was congratulating me for such a pick up, he was going to check it out himself. Also if your interested I got the blue cable.

  • will be picking up my orders on the weekend

  • Yeah I love how Dick Smith just refunds your orders without an email or anything. This has happened to me so many times now I'm tempted to just make huge orders on their overpriced goods with my card and then do a chargeback so they know how it feels.

  • I just collected the bull nose wall plate, and it only came with the picture on the left (bull nose) and not the plain one on the right. Is this right or did I get screwed? I thought it came with both the things in the picture???

Would like to know the answer before I ring up tomorrow morning?

    • It should be two pieces. The picture just shows the plate without the bullnose. So you should have a plate and the bullnose clips on to it.

      • my plate without the bullnose has holes in the side for the bullnose. that image does not so it must be something else? i'll call them tomorrow to double check

  • For anyone who went to the shop to pick up, what is your order status under your account online? Did you receive a pick up email?
I only have the order confirmation email which was received when I ordered, no pick up email or text yet. I went today, the guy in the shop said he didn't receive my order, and tell me to contact Dick Smith Online….

  • Revoking my vote here. Paypal tells me that payment has been refunded. No email, no contact from dick smith at all
    Very unprofessional.
