  • Let me guess, delivery is $10?

    • +3

Add $30 more to unlock FREE shipping (orders $30+).

      • I did see that too, but couldn't find anything else worth spending the money on!

    • +3

Yes it was $10.96 to be exact! Ordered 28 patch cables for $25 incl shipping, so pretty good deal!

  • Will these work with POE ?

    • +3

I've used slim cables like these for low-power PoE devices and they've worked fine. YMMV etc etc.

    • +5

Bottom line is yes, with caveats.

Given this is 48 AWG gauge wire, I would only use it for short lengths, and with low wattage (less than 30 watts).

Short lengths for use in racks and patch panels will be fine. Anything more could cause voltage drop and heat.

      • +2

Given this is 48 AWG gauge wire,

Just a little typo correction in case anyone misses it, it's actually 28AWG.

        • +2

48AWG is a very fine hair, not much bigger than an optical fibre. So yeah :)

    • +2

Over short distances and low POE Devices, should be fine. I've used them for some TP Link APs and they have been fine. I usually use the small stuff just for networking data only like from wall point to switch or POE injector into network point.

    • +2

Context for you - the usual Cat6 cables that runs the full 100m distance is 23AWG which is thicker than 24AWG.

  • +3

Thanks OP, got 60 for $30 shipped

    Laser cables are terrible quality

Probably fine for gigabit at these short lengths, but don't expect PoE to work, or the clips to last

    • Any brands that you recommend then? I need like a 5m to connect to an extender in the ceiling, or if theres a 10m or something cheap enough then maybe that.

    • If they're cat 6, then they absolutely should do 10GB at these short lengths. If they can't, then they're not cat 6 compliant.

      • Now you're getting it

        • I'm not saying they can or can't do 10GB, but if they can't, then they're not Cat6. They are copper and oil to fit within the gauge spec.

But also for $0.50ea, they're not bad value if only notionally cat 5/5e.

Beautiful to stock up my tiny CAT cable box.

Note that if you buy 10 or more for some of the cables, you can get them cheaper. For example, Buy 10 or more of the Ultra Slim Cat6 Network Cable Black 0.5M and they will go down to 50c each (Normally $1)

I spent over $200 and got a free 1 x Free over $150 Orders Lightning charging cable 0.5m and a 1 x Laser Kids Robot Alarm Clock - Yellow. Bonus! Something for the kids!

  • +2

Doesn't it need to do 10gb @ 50m to be rated cat 6?

    • Yes, cat 6 is 10Gb at 55m, 1Gb at 100m

I've previously bought Ultra Slim CAT 6 cables before even a short one. It was so bad that it couldn't even achieve even any where near Gigabit speed but just a fraction of it. So i binned it. No good for me it's garbage.

These Ultra Slim cables don't have much shielding in it and the copper wires are tiny thin. That's the reason why it's thin. But performance really suffers. So don't expect to get good speeds. Don't use it for Gigabit.

    • +3

How long was the run? Whatever you purchased must have been complete rubbish if they couldn't do 1gbps over a short distance. Or they were straight up faulty.

I've had old cat5 cables that go well over gigabit at 1-2m even though they're only rated for 100mbps. Short distance is very, very easy.

      • Only a 2 metre cable. Yeah it could have been just a rubbish quality cable.

    • +5

People don't need the slim type cables, the real advantage of them is in racks where you have hundreds or thousands of them and the space saved makes a big difference. That said, brand makes a huge difference. I've used them extensively in data centres and never had an issue. Cheap stuff like this could be hit and miss, I'd need to actually test some sample to determine if they're good or junk.

      • They are easier to handle, they coil up nicely, they bend nicely, and they dont fight you when you're trying to twist them around behind a TV cabinet to orient them correctly to plug in like thicker cables do. they also dont lift/move smaller devices around like thicker cables tend to do. They tuck in between carpet and skirting boards nicely as well.

I use 4Cabling ones and never had any issues with connectivity.

there is absolutely reasons to have them in the home.

    • +2

No UTP cables have shielding in them. Twisted pair does not particularly need or want any shielding.

      • +3

So you're saying the u means something!

Just a note that there are yellow and blue cables also on special if black isn't your jam.

FYI these cables are bad quality - Out of a batch of 10 I bought, 3 of them didn't work at all. It's cheap for a reason

Should have wait for your comment before I bought.

  • Tried to buy two separate colours in two separate orders, both “failed”.

I bought these Cat6 0.5m leads for $2.50 delivered the other day: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0787QWKX9 and https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0787TW99F

If you want smaller - 0.25m for $2 delivered: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07KYFGQB9

It's not the length that matters, it's the girth. Especially when you have a bunch of them in a small area.

  • Just got my shipping notification. Very prompt and via StarTrack, so should be speedy delivery!

  • Thanks op. The 0.5 x 10 off is a great deal, then round it out with a few other lengths to get over th $39 for free shipping. Feel like I’m getting a good deal.
