Is this really a deal? There is not much information on the product quality / testing.

I've bought 'multi-tools' before online which were not branded (i.e. not leatherman etc), and the blades are rubbish, tend to go blunt after the first use. Also the construction tends to be flimsy and don't even bother trying to cut cable with any steel in it.

Whats the capability of this multi-tool which sets it apart?

  • No chainsaw, No deal…

  • Ive looked at Newfrog a couple of times for stuff, and each time Ive found them to be pretty much double the price of alternatives.

  • does this come with a pouch?

    • @haz

Sorry,no pouch but there is a box

  • I'm pretty sure it is illegal to carry this in QLD, possibly in Australia.

The protruding knob on the knife means it can be opened with one hand. Knives with this feature are considered to be the same as flick knives, and are therefore illegal to carry. Possibly possession is also illegal.

Possibly. Our knife laws are a bit strange. Normally one-hand opening is a big no-no, but then again you can one hand open the main blade on a number of Leatherman models (Wave, Surge). The Surge in particular has a fairly large blade.

It would be interesting to see if you would even get this through customs. Normally anything one-hand opening you can't import, but there is a specific exemption for 'multi-tools'. However, what is considered to be a multi-tool is not actually defined, so it comes down to a) if your parcel is inspected and b) the whim of the customs person inspecting it.

I've successfully 'imported' (purchased from US ebay sellers) various Leatherman tools that have one-hand opening blades, and they've all arrived (although one came with a note saying it had been opened and inspected by customs.

TL;DR you may not even get this through customs (but its going to be rubbish quality anyway, don't bother).

As for the custom you mentioned above, I am not sure about it. But when I check the order record in our system there was many Australia customers have bought it before and got them successfully. Hope this help

        • Thanks for the reply rep, but the reality is that you don't really have much control over what customs here does. As mentioned there is certainly an exemption for 'multi tools' but since that term isn't actually defined, it is up to the customs person to decide. Personally, I'd call this item a multi tool, but that doesn't mean that customs agree.
