  • How does this compare to a Johnny black? Or not even close.

Gotta stock some bottles for each table for our wedding in 9 weeks. At $32/bottle this seems like a decent price for an aged scotch.

Much much better. Your assessment of "not even close" is surprisingly accurate.

      • Single Malt < Blended

        • +1

Single malt is less than blended?! Each to their own, but you'll find many will disagree.

    • $32 a bottle?

      • Edit…. Punched in $380/12 for some silly brain fade reason but my question still stood. Couldn't change it after replies were made. $318/6 = $53 a bottle which is a reasonable price if it's a decent drop.

So allergic2work would this be more on par to say a Johnny green or am I really just comparing apples and oranges!?

I'm allowed to supply my own spirits at this venue which is pretty flexible. It would want to be given what I'm paying per head!

So I'm in the market for something around the Johnny black level as it's most likely going to be mixed anyway. Cheapest I've seen black was around the $40 mark. This is where my question stems from.

Slightly off topic but happy to purchase a good deal if there's one to be had.

If that's the case, just look out for a Dimple/JW Black special at Dan Murphys (12yo age statement can be had for under $40, less with e-gift cards+cashrewards). Offering up Glenfiddich to be mixed is, uh…. like giving truffles to pigs…

          @carwashhair:

Maybe I'm just too generous. At any rate, a cheap(er) good drop is a cheap drop, mixed or not. I'd rather my guests had an option than to HAVE to mix to disguise a sub-par drop.

I think this is a great drop, and significantly cheaper than when I bought a bottle for about $180. Mind you, that was at a bar in KL that was on a helipad where a bottle was required to gain entry. Tasted great and I felt like someone out of Entourage.

        • If it's going to be mixed then I would put mainly cheap scotch out with a few good bottles around for those who want to drink it neat or with ice. Mixing 12 year old scotch with coke won't taste any better than using cheap scotch, might make the occasion feel a little bit special though I suppose so maybe have to place some value on that.

        • Woah!!! Hold up!!! Stop EVERYTHING!!! Where can you still get Johnny Green?

        • @argonbay: shiiiiitt, that makes me wish I bought a few more bottles when I got a couple for $50ea

        • @carwashhair: My dad had a bottle of green that he was going to give to someone for easter. I was like NO! MINE! and took it off his hands :)

        • @argonbay: Ta thanks but it's many times RRP 😕. When it was $70 a bottle that was great value but now it appears there's Brodens about.

        • @allergic2work: Just wanted to see how keen you were :-). I think they were litre bottles but still way too expensive.

  • Welcome to OzB. Actual price & delivery required in title mate.

Hi strikerzebra - the price comes down once the voucher is applied at the checkout.

  • can't afford it…

  • Big commitment to buy scotch by the case.
Prefer to mix it up a bit.

Better do a deal on six different 12 years old scotch. Definitely will sell more.

  • I wish this was 18YO

Going through a breakup, lately I have been drinking a lot. Definitely a great deal, given that I am an alcoholic now this will save me quite a few bucks!
Thanks OP, thanks for helping me get through this rough patch. cheers
