A little bit too early for may 4th but bring it on!

  • Great deals except for the X-wing games.

  • Without clicking through each of the links and watching trailers - any thoughts on the best of the bunch? I'm generally keen on FPS, but have liked a few TPS's. Keen to jump one some of the May the 4th deals this time round…

    • +2

There isn't a bad game on that list really, almost all of them are classics and were huge in their heyday, it just depends on how retro you're willing to go.

      For FPS/TPS, I would say:
      - Battlefront II
      - The Jedi Knight bundle
      - Republic Commando
      - The Force Unleashed series
      - The KOTOR series

Though you're missing out if you don't get Empire at War as well. Still the best Star Wars RTS.

      KOTOR

      • +1

        HODOR

    • It's getting pretty long in the tooth, but if you haven't played dark forces (and the jedi knight games which followed) you haven't lived.

    • +1

Cheers guys. KOTOR I & II bought.
      Can't wait.

star wars and others on sale on xbox store too. couldnt be bothered posting the deal.

  • +3

    Thanks, I got KOTOR :)

    • +3

      Best game ever!!@

      • +1

Apparently! I'm waiting for it to DL..

    • Kotor 1 or 2

      • +3

Both are excellent games. Start with 1. Then, if when you find you can't stop after finishing 1, buy 2.

Actually, to save money for later, buy both!

      • +1

Started with the original… apparently the best.

      HODOR

      • What's that

  • Wish I saw this before the Gamer Republic deal!

  • Are X-Wing Special Edition, TIE Fighter Special Edition and X-Wing vs TIE Fighter have improved and higher resolution than their original versions? I don't think I like to play games that still run on 320x240 resolution.

    • I believe they've simply been made compatible with digital distribution - no high res textures etc.

      • Thanks. I will pass then. No way I can stand 320x240 res anymore.

        • +6

Yep and 10% off a game from mid 90s, well, the force isn't strong enough in this one

    • +1

For TIE Fighter they include the original DOS version (1994) and Windows remaster (1998). The Windows remaster is in 640x480.

GoG, but not Steam, also includes the Collectors version (1995) which has 640x480 plus MIDI score.

Would be the same for the others.

      • Good to know a higher res 640x480 exist. Though 640x480 will still look horrible on my 24-inch monitor with native 1920x1200 res :D

        • Oh definitely. I was very nostalgic about a year ago to play TIE Fighter again. I couldn't find my old CDs but I found an ISO. Graphics have definitely dated but the gameplay and presentation has as well. It is still worth a play but it is very much a simulator rather than a quick pick-up arcade game.

I have TIE Fighter, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max and others on CD somewhere in boxes but with most getting re-releases I may as well purchase the new digital versions.

        • @ChiefAJ: I have played all three X-Wing, TIE Fighter and X-Wing vs TIE Fighter in the 90s. They are all very good games, but now too outdated to play again.

Finally, the LEGO games are on sale!

  • Awesome layout and presentation of the deal! Thanks kaneissik

  • If I could choose one game and it had to be rpg which one?

  • The Jedi Knight bundle at $6USD is a fantastic price for a good series of games, still remember how excited I was back when Jedi Outcast came out and you could wield a lightsaber the way it let you

  • +3

They need to make a new X-wing or TIE fighter game with modern graphics. Seriously.

    • Would be a cool game to play with a virtual reality headset e.g.occulus rift.

  • It's like Star Wars rebellion never existed. Was no one a fan?

    • +2

That is actually one of the best grand strategy game with the given fomula, it is rather close to the type of game seen in koei romance of the three kingdoms series or civ
But those games were a hit back in the early 90s but when they release rebellion, it was already the time where first person shooters taking off and it's too many limitations hinder the game being welcome by players.
I personally like the game, but it does have too many limitations

I actually sent Lucasart In 1993 a concept idea of a game rather similar to rebellion but they gave me the official we develop games in house reply thanks for your support … If they use half the idea I wrote there, rebellion would be rivalling koeis two long running series. Lol
They managed to put that complete failure that was force commander, which marks the downhill of Lucasarts

  • I was also looking for rebel assault 1 & 2. Lobed those games for some reason.

  • They should have remake the entire xwing Saga like they did with homeworld, the series it is by far the best space sim out there.
The control would be hard to swallow for majority of new gen today, given those were already dumb down from aircraft sims of the time.
Memorise the keys, kick the engine to full power or to the Shields at the right time would meant life and death, a mission that last well over 15 minutes can be failed at the last ten seconds and you have to do it all over again…
Beating the mission really meant something back then…even they just redo all the graphics like they did with halo annv and halo 2 annv leave the rest intact, this series would be up there with the aaa new releases in 2020…

  • Too bad most of those games have no online features, it means there is no multiple players game. thats why they are so cheap.

  • Man I just bought KOTOR based on peoples comments here.. Screw u all

  • hmm Does it make sense to buy KOTOR 2 for steam even though I already have the physical disks?

    • I did. The physical discs are irritating for re-installing, digital is so much easier!

  • Most of the Star Wars games are cheaper at games republican, since they have an extra 15% off code. I posted the deal but most people missed it.

  • Lego Star Wars is particularly notable as it doesn't go on sale very often (separate licensing arrangements from other Lego games I think). I've been waiting a while for a decent special on this one.
