  • Before all the comments saying this is a scam, I had these lights installed in my apartment through this scheme lately (but a different supplier to OP).

I was initially wary of the 'Primsal' lights, but did a comparison and found them to be better than the Philips. I would recommend this scheme to anyone with lots of downlights. Having said that I can't vouch for the OP as an installer or whatever.

This is the same price as every other company does with the primsals….. and if we were going to get them most would have already. ….. if you post a nice discount price for a quality led you may get a lot more bites. Ozbargainers are tight and want cheap but will pay for quality….. if the price is right.

    • This is from a different company, but also under the VEET scheme - Philips MR16 downlights for $5 each (these normally go for $12.50 at Bunnings). They're a lot better than Primsal downlights.

      • Minimum 20 downlights for the link above

      • Yes and something along the same lines would be great….. maybe with Brightgreen DR700's.

On a side note I have tried a Philips master and they are pretty terrible with my transformers(flickering ect)

      • I'm not sure why everyone just assumes that the Philips are better than the Primsal?
No I don't trust the sales guy at the door, but before I put mine in I actually spoke to a couple of sparky mates that have tried both (and others) and the sparky that was going to install them! Ps. I installed them myself but gave the sparky a few extra cheapie halogens so I got a few extra LEDs!

  • VIC only, OP please put this in the title of the post!

Not a deal. Same as everyone, just an advertisement listing

Have to agree with @heloanand above.
It's not a deal. Definitely the same as everyone and definitely just advertising.
Also, what is an "A Grade Electrician"?
They've either got an electricians licence, or they don't.

And lets be honest, it's changing light bulbs… I'd rather do it myself than let a random person creep around my house!

      • +1

I agree.. Appears to be a sort of advertising!

Not a deal to me, there are companies offer free of charge for primsal lights and $4.40 for Philips 7W.

  • what will happen if you install these
    on dimable sockets
and not disconnect the dimmabe on switch

    • Instant disco party - some LEDs will flicker when dimmer attached (even if not dimmed)

    • Dimmable LEDs are a fair bit dearer. They just bypass the circuitry for these!

  • About $15 worth of VEEC for the installer

Cheapo non-dimming lamp costs about $5 (tops)

    Free to the consumer.

  • Is this for existing lights only?

  • Why GU10 downlights are not part of the scheme? :(

Looking to replace the lights in the my house with led, does anyone have any recommendations for which company to go with?

    • I went through GHGP (Green Home Green Planet) just last week. I ended up dealing with the door sales guy's boss (Sumeet 0401 453 976). I think he's Indian or similar, but a nice guy. He let me try a couple overnight before I signed up. I called him up, said go for it and had them installed the next day (well delivered because I did them myself)! The sparky he uses (Matt) is a top bloke. I spoke to him for about an hour on a few different electrical things.

  • I got my lights replaced after speaking to Adil from the Green Guys (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/187273) and I’d highly recommend it. The electrician came as scheduled a few days after I called them. I got the free 7W EcoMatters downlights in the kitchen where I wanted a higher brightness of 500 lumens, and a mix of the Philips dimmables ($10) as well as the Philips non-dimmables ($5). Some peace of mind from the warranty too, so I couldn’t be happier.

  • so if you have 1 socket to power up light, then we'll be only charge $10?

can we just get the no-dimmable?
so what do we exactly pay here?

what if the transformer is old, are they replaced free of charge?

    • All of these Government schemes are the same. (Most) suppliers will supply and install free of charge a MR16 LED globe upon removal of your old globe. Most of the suppliers I've looked at state a minimum of 8-10 globes per house to do it for free, otherwise they will charge you a callout fee of $??. The globes that are supplied for free are not dimmable, so if you have a dimmer switch installed they will charge you $10 per switch that they have to decommission (Which is just bypassing the dimmer circuit)! Older transformers can be better in some circumstances. I find my old iron core transformers have no problems but some of the cheaper electronic ones don't always come on to start with!

So to sum up, if have more than 8-10 MR16 downlights (the 2 little straight push in pins types) in your house, don't have any existing dimmer switches, and your transformers are compatible (more than likely), it will not cost you a single penny!

  • i c, i got 14 MR16 and 2 GU10

of which 2 of the MR16 share the 1 dimmable switch.

so i guess there would be a minimum $10 charge,

    cheers

    • That and (unfortunately) GU10s aren't covered by the scheme!
edit: Actually they are, but they're not cheap enough for these suppliers to buy to be able to do them for free!
