Just in case anyone isn't aware, this may not be the best time to buy a GPU as the 300 series from AMD is due to be released in the next month or so. As well as Win10/DX12.

    • Personally note at all interested in AMD's latest offerings…

      • You may not be, but if their offerings happen to be quite good, fully compatible with dx12, and cheaper. Nvidia may even drop prices to match.

      • Maybe the current offering, but wait and see what the 300 series has to offer before making up your mind.

Nope, no more AMD for me.

        • @Neo:

I like to offer support to both AMD and Nvidia from time to time, otherwise once AMD no longer making GPU, Nvidia will price their card at whatever price they want, Titan GPU are one example.

        • @kevin22:

I've "supported" the inferior AMD cards enough times over my GPU history…. every time, I just don't learn, until now.

          @Neo:

I'm in the same boat, and I think Neo is entitled to state his personal stance without negs, he's not telling anyone else what to do.

        • @Neo: I agree, AMD software has been one most awful experience for me. Automatic updates consistent failing, requiring complete uninstall of drivers using 3rd party, constant forgetting or none working Eyefinity multiscreen profiles etc. This is with multiple AMD cards and builds.
Just saying, pretty happy with Nvidia at the moment

Winter is coming - AMD are good in winter, they are like a heater and video card all in one…

    • The 900 series supports DX12 if I'm not mistaken

      • True. The difference between each companies implementation will likely only be clear after the full release or when dx12 gets mainstream implementation in games/other software.

  • What if i wanted to buy 2 980s?

  • I'm considering building a new system in a month or two (i.e. once I've saved up enough $$$ for all the parts) and I'm probably going to go with a GTX980 for it.
This deal seems pretty good (the cheapest I've seen for a G1 GTX980 is about $750) but should I go ahead and buy it now or wait until I've saved enough to also buy the rest of the parts (since the price could drop with the release of the new AMD cards)?
P.S. I'm not interested in AMD cards since I'll be using it for a number of CUDA programs.

I would wait. There have been equivalent 980 deals in the past from a quick ozb search, so i think it's safe to assume that they'll get even cheaper with the 300 series release. You may also find a retailer that offers the Nvidia game package that includes witcher 3 AND Arkham Knight. Also, as mentioned below, the 50 buck coupon kinda sucks.

Just a heads up this deal isn't that great, you can get the 970 at MSY for about $11 more and since uninsured shipping costs $9 a $2 saving with a 1 week wait and a chance of it being DOA is not that great of a deal. Also incase you missed it that voucher can only be used between june 1-21 so unless there is a sale between that time period it is essentially useless since it also excludes epic hour.(which is a bit misleading because it isn't stated unless you go to this page: http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/shoppingexpress_rewards)

The 980 is a good deal in terms of RRP but the card is bad value in of iteself since it is only around a 10% increase over the 970 for a $200ish price increase.

Yeah.. I'm gunna say the vouchers are completely worthless too.. I'm surprised that it's actually legal to do this, as you enter into a contract where the $50 'voucher' is part of that.. to then say that the terms of the voucher aren't even finalised yet, is a bit of unscrupulous.. I mean, they could turn around and say that the coupon is only valid on something worth $5000..

  • It will perform the same in a month but it may be cheaper

  • How long does it take for the voucher to appear in "My Account"?

It will be sent to your email before 1-6-15.
I would say, you need to check your email between 24-5-15 to 31-5-15

      Cheers
