  • Not the best bundle. I wish Splatoon was on more platforms, the game looks really fun.

    • Great price for splatoon. Do wonder if that is the retail price however. Still have a 20% off voucher so even better. Game is made by nintendo so wont ever be on any other platform. BTW after playing the beta it is amazing. Can no wait!

      • It's currently $79 on their website before this sale starts

        • Yes but its also been about 25-28 pounds in the UK where normal games are more expensive. This is similar to Kirby and Captain toad which have all been $59 here. JB have not discounted games in a while so I will see the pricing at Big W, Target and Kmart etc before deciding if this is a great price or not. Either way amazing for such a fun game

        • -1

@Dany34: Yeah I don't know 1 Nintendo game that hasn't started on $59 or less :) Target & Big W will most likely be the same

Before they port it from the Wii-U to the PS4 and Xbone, they'd need to make some changes. Here, I found some of the patch notes of the Splatoon multiplatform project!

      • All graphics must be improved by 4-fold. To achieve this, we must dumb down the gameplay and make the game slower so there are no framerate drops!
      • Due to this new cost in graphics, we are no longer making a ludicrous profit at $60 per unit. To correct this, all in game items like clothes and guns must now be purchased by real money.
      • People are playing online without paying an additional fee. We propose a 10 dollar buy in, or a 1 dollar monthly fee!
      • Singleplayer!?
      • Players are accessing all levels without paying additional for each level. This is a bug, and each level will cost $5 after next patch
      • People are still having fun. This is a bug. Add more cinematic QTE's that take players out of the action.
      • Keep the bullshit motion controls, but take away the option to turn it off, because kinect is da way of da futur
      • All playable characters have been replaced with gruff, burly, grotesque hunks of man-meat.
      • All colours have been removed. Players can now shoot each other with either white or black. Additional colours require a monetary transaction.

Congratulations. Splatoon is now ready for next gen platforms.

      • This made me lol. Well done sir

      • I wouldn't mind paying for cosmetics >_>

        • The cosmetics are in the game as in game purchases with in game money (because Splatoon isn't a soul-sucking taint on the videogame industry), but if you want to pay me I can unlock them for you! Only 3 bucks per item, I'm doing a special low rate for you!

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Plus, I forgot to mention before I could no longer edit, they actually have functional traits as well like increased speed or damage with certain weapons, health, etc.

You know. Like a real game is supposed to have.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

This game really does sound excellent, I was going to pull the trigger a couple of months ago on a WiiU just to play this game but I figured it would have been a waste of money since I already have every other console and barely find time to play. You'll have to make a forum post or something in future and share your thoughts.

        • Barely find time to play

You may want to configure that sentence to "Barely find games to play". Wii-U thrashes the other two 'next gen' platforms combined in terms of game titles.

Nintendo said it best themselves. They had 18 metacritic wins when compared to Sony and Microsoft's 8 combined. You can count the quality next gen exclusive games on one hand, with digits to spare.

Wonderful 101 is the best Wii-U game. Hopefully Xbone gets a winner with Scalebound, made by the same developers (headed by Platinum's very own Master-Director, Hideki Kamiya). Until then, well, at least there will be remakes of 360 games we all played in high school for the Xbone. Thanks, Microsoft!

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Yeah, I can agree with you there. Every announced release title for both consoles were terrible and/or buggy. They both have nothing exciting coming and it's just a bunch of re-releases (GTA, Borderlands). What a sad state for console gaming, embarrassment compared to last-gen thus far.

          Queue PCMasterRace ego.

        • @kaneissik: It's hard not to have that ego; Sony and Microsoft are pushing hard to make their videogame consoles better at playing DVDs and Netflix than actual videogames. Welcome to 2015; if you want to be a serious gamer, get a PC (I've been console my entire life, and bought a powerful PC last month due to being forced to depart from my beloved consoles ;_;)

Ain't nothing like a Playstation console with no Jak, Sly, Ratchet, Uncharted, Resistance, Medieval, or damned near anything. Oh, but, they have InFamous though! And REMAAAAAAAAAAAAKES!!!!!

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

PCs are really just the place to be, everythings here, all the big games are on PC. People are too attached to their gamerscore and their love of EB trade-ins to consider anything else.

InFamous was alright, would've preferred it on PC but it was a gorgeous game. Shame Ratchet & Clank got delayed, nothing exciting on the horizon for Sony!

        • @kaneissik: I have a high end PC for gaming but I hardly use it. For me it is not the graphics, the games or the price (coulda bought a lot of of console games for the price of the PC) but the experience and people I play with. My experience with gaming on PC is that it is very much alone, perhaps I didn't look in the right places or find the right people but it just seemed devoid of 'life'. I agree that the current gen lineup of games sucks. Remakes and re-releases. I can't even think of a good current gen exclusive, although there's not much on PC currently that seems much good either.

        • @CyberGenesys:

Oh don't misunderstand me, I'm not boasting about the amazing 60 FPS games with 4k resolution. Everything just feels natural on PC for me, controls, menus, communities. What games have you played on PC that you experienced a dead community? I've noticed that consoles are pretty good with smaller indie titles; communities that wouldn't be there on PC are there on consoles, it's pretty neat. There's also a bunch of older games that seem to have a lasting community on consoles. I'm still happy with my consoles, there's just not much to play really.

      • +1

White or black? Gee, look at mr fancy colors. The last hunk of man-meat shooter I played only came in brown.

        • +1

It wasn't Gears of War, then! That had a bit of red…. I think I even saw a little blue somewhere but maybe that was my retinas burning out from all the manliness on screen.

  • Never played destiny, is it good?

    • +4

Its fun and worth it at that price especially with a few friends. Just a lot of grinding and replaying the same levels to keep levelling up (have not played in a long time). There has been more added but you must pay for all the extra stuff. Still great mechanics and worth a play through for that $39 just don't expect a great story or any story for that matter

      • Thanks buddy

      • +1

Quite in agreement with this post. A lot of people hate on Destiny for it's story issues. And therefore, deem the game worthless. I'm sure there are plenty of games without much of a story, or a vague one for that fact, that are still deemed decent games. It was probably the hype surrounding it and the fact that it was a Bungie game that was it's downfall.

I love the game. It's one of the best FPS's I've played. Graphically it's the best I've seen on any console ever, and performs the best (so smooth, I don't know how they managed it). The mechanics are really diverse and interesting, especially in raids. If you miss out on the raids, you miss out on some of the best experiences of Destiny.

Post level 20, the grind does indeed begin, it becomes more about the meta game. Should you want it to. Otherwise there is the endless amounts of play from PVP, which is pretty damn fun also.

It intrigues me when people say there's no amount of gameplay here worthy of the price. But there's plenty of gameplay here, worth it for it's release day price, heck it's a steal at this price.

        • +1

It's very good value for money in terms of game time.

Game value is more than just time. Pvp will have mixed experiences. Between lag switching cheaters and genuine crap connections players should be prepared for the worst of p2p competitive multilayer.

        • @CyberGenesys:

PVP does have issues at times, I still think it's a good time though.

Okay, fair enough regarding game value.

So does game value = story?

    • +2

Be warned, Destiny is essentially a 'early access' game with very steep pricing for small dlc packs. Quite a lot of bugs, new ones added and fixed with each update. A lot of changes occur that are often not for the better, weapons constantly buffed then nerfed.
All of the friends I have been playing with are relying on the next dlc (house of wolves) to be destiny's saviour. But with a 50/50 split of new content between a 'serious' pvp mode (pvp is a laggy mess anyway) and a 3 player horde mode I'm expecting to see a mass exodus of players about 1-2 weeks after the dlc is released. As it stands already most of the release day players have left because of the first dlc and much of the remaining player base is die hards and Christmas kids.

I suggest gamers avoid this game unless they have nothing else to play.

      • +2

Played the game for I think a month max…. quit…. that was the most repetitive shallow game I have ever spent money on. Felt bad for the bloke who bought the disc off me.

        • Why did people get so burnt by destiny?

        • +5

@p1owz0r: "I don't have time to even explain why I don't have time to explain" - Plot

        • +1

@p1owz0r: the hype and let-down. It was marketed as much more than it was, and the game just oozes POTENTIAL. Its an ok game that could've been amazing.

        • @niaboc:

This is kind of what I figured - I am a destiny fan, I've had w lot of fun with it, for some reaon it seems to cop a lot more flak than other games - most times people don't like a game and just move on. I reckon too many people bought into the hype and paid for it, hence got burnt

        • +2

          @CyberGenesys:
It's an ok game, despite this.
Think, a tiny version of WoW with fps stuff, but less coherant story or really any coherant story.
TBH borderlands does a better job than this does.

        • @RI4V4N: Agreed, I'm currently waiting on a deal for Borderlands: Handsome Jack Collection for PS4.

        • +1

@p1owz0r: I got it because it was made by Bungie, it was a sci-fi shooter a la Halo so I figured it would be a spiritual successor to Halo with a rich lore sci-fi universe and good gameplay. How wrong I was…

Forgive if the numbers are not exact because I haven't played in a long time. Destiny consists of about 5 planets, on each planet you do about 20 missions that each last for 15 minutes. Each mission starts with a floating orb guy similar to 343 Guilty Spark who tells you virtually nothing about the location you are entering, gives you some excuse why he can't explain anything and then after that he goes away. You then play with no interaction with other NPCs until you reach the objective. You then activate the objective and defend it for 5 minutes. You then leave the mission and are returned to some HUB. Rinse and repeat for about 5hrs and then you have finished the game. The only stand-out mission is one where you can pickup a sword that changes the gameplay a lot for a single boss encounter. Then there are the "strike missions" that have a couple of defence points and then a tough boss to fight, there's no story reason for the fights as they are self-contained missions but the bosses can be satisfying to finally kill.

Once you have completed the strike missions there isn't really anything to do unless you want to boot the game up every day and do the most boring randomized missions ever as your 'daily quest'. You basically just freeroam an area searching for a mission to start which then makes you backtrack to the other side of the map, kill a couple of enemies and then you are done with that mission. The daily will tell you to play a certain strike mission but it plays out exactly the same as always, it's not unique.

If you feel you have done everything PvE has to offer then you might consider playing multiplayer since Halo was quite fun online and the netcode seems to be really good since while playing with friends you haven't noticed any lag fighting the enemies during campaign. How wrong you are…. Once you get into a multiplayer game it seems to use an entirely different netcode and you can expect to have lots of strange stuttering, inconsistent weapon damage and teleporting enemies. The "competitive" play is horrible in this game.

This is not even touching on any of the "RPG elements" they tried to shoe-horn in by putting gear into this game. I gotta say it's like Bungie tried to copy Borderlands and fell horribly short. I hope their next title actually has a story and a decent multiplayer mode and they don't feel tempted to RPG the game up. The PvE feels like the most desolate MMO you've ever played and the PvP feels like you are playing on a dial-up connection. The game attempts to copy a lot of successful elements from other MMO titles and Borderlands but unfortunately doesn't master any particular strengths, it's just a horribly mediocre exercise in grinding the same 40 missions that happen to play out exactly the same as each other. Could be a decent game provided you have never played a console title with another player before, don't care about story (can't emphasize how non-existent it is, I've played deeper mobile titles) and have never played an MMO (enjoy being in a hub with like 50 other players but whenever you go inside anything you are just by yourself or with your party of 3).

        • +1

@Agret:Just going to elaborate and confirm a few of these details

Destiny consists of about 5 planets

          3 planets and a moon

on each planet you do about 20 missions

Between 5 - 7 missions (not including the 1-2 strikes) per planet. Making the entire game a total of 20 missions

most boring randomized missions ever as your 'daily quest'

One of those 20 story missions you get to replay. Again and again.

The "competitive" play is horrible in this game.

This cannot be emphasized enough. An example which was taken from 6 player match, the 16 player matches can be even worse

    • +4

A decent FPS almost destroyed by MMO grinding.

Worth the play through to level 20, but after that I got bored as it was the same content on repeat.

      • I know Destiny can't be played offline, but if you just play through the game as solo as possible, is it fine? Or even without other players, will my crappy connection make it unplayable?

        • I have played it without a psn account and got pretty far, but unable to clock it.

        • +1

You will be asked to go places…kill things…but you will never know why. If you ask for those reasons…then I could tell you about the deep lore, I could tell you about the main plot, I could tell you about the history and the cause and the future we are aiming for…but I am a prick NPC and I won't…I would rather make you quit your game…launch a browser…read pages full of dull boring text in a faint hope that you will now feel connected and play the single player game. :)

          @Phreakuency:
No you have to have a constant internet connection while playing.

        • @Phreakuency:

No, you need internet connection otherwise you cant play the game.

You don't need to have a psn+ account to play, but you wont finish the game as you need to complete online missions to move forward

        • +1

          @FrankMcFuzz:
WTH!!! I have a product release tomorrow!! F***in Korea and USSR just ate me! :| This is ****in' addictive!! :)

        • @shadowarrior: the lore is actually pretty decent, a shame no one will ever read it. There are some decent summaries on YouTube or reddit that collect all the various cards together. I particularly like the one about the archive and the nexus. Something about the nexus is a super computer that's in fact generating the universe we exist in (like the matrix), if we destroy the nexus we may cease to exist. That's in the grimoire cards, if you play the game it's summarised as "shoot all the things".

        • @bti_jet:

Internet connection is fine but can you essentially play solo without the speed of your connection mattering too much?

        • @Phreakuency:

Yes but it will lag, also you won't be able to complete the game, if your connection cuts out it will exit map and go back to main screen , I managed to level up to 20 and move no further in the game. I kept repeating missions to try and move forward, I got sick of it and sold the game as I wasn't buying a psn+ account

        • +1

@bti_jet: Ah ok thanks for all the info :)

Was hoping it was like Bloodborne where you played solo and your connection didn't matter unless you joined other games. I guess Destiny is always on with other players always around.

With my crappy connection I'll have to give it a miss.

    • if you like endless grind and getting punished for your time and effort by ridiculous RNG then yes, Destiny is great.

    • +1

Yeah, been playing since release, quite addictive and grindy. Heaps of fun though, the Vault of Glass Raid is an amazing setup. If you enjoy it, join a clan you'll benefit ten-fold with the assistance and increased co-op opportunitys. For the original $50 I paid and subsequent $25 for DLC, I've truly got my money's worth on this one. Fantastic if you don't mind grinding for leveling your weapons and armour.

      • +1

Vault of glass is an amazing level. As a team of 6 going for the no deaths trophy the tension is unbelievable. Especially when the team is relying on a single player to stay alive (Relic holders). The DLC raid is a joke in comparison :(

        • you're probably better off doing flawless raider on crota normal mode, given the cheeses for first two sections and if you have a decent sword bearer.

That said, I agree - VoG is a brilliant level, probably the best PvE coop I've ever played, Crota is nowhere near it.

        • @p1owz0r: Nah, crota is way to glitched for us. We ended up doing VoG flawless on our second flawless attempt. Took about 45mins to complete. Even the trophies are glitched, we had a player die after the templar section. For some reason he was still marked despite clearing that area, made it all the way down to the gorgons and then dropped dead. Revived him and completed the raid and the trophy still popped

Destiny has been a ton of fun for me and friends, it would have been annoying playing solo though. The grind is real and the repetitiveness is huge, but for some reason I'm happy to overlook it and get excited each week to do the nightfall and raids. For $39 and DLC bundle for $30ish on PSN, it's a great time to get on to it. Too many haters, IMO
