enveloped.com.au: ask comments for "OZ Bargainer's licence" plan

Are you sometimes finding your order too small to be justified for the shipping cost? I sometimes wish to buy a pair of socks or a single HDMI cable, and find shipping cost a lot higher than the goods.

I posted my test online store that never charges delivery fee, and sell all kinds of goods in envelop size (bulk parcel delivery comes later in the year).†

1 out of 10 visitors to the test site wrote feedback. Amazing. Thank you. I also learned that I cannot satisfy the OZ Bargain community the way you want me to. You want domestic delivery and bargain price of only 2 dollars above Chinese ebay sellers, which leaves an Aussie domestic business at loss. I learned that I will have no business if I only target OZBargainers.

But I think I can satisfy you (more or less), bargainers! If you would help me too! I need your help to reach the common consumers - you know, the less diligent, mind-absent, impatient, and loving Aussies who made you feel so lonely as a Bargainer!

The idea is to issue OZ Bargainer's License.

  • It gives you the rock-bottom price on any products I sell, the price that I make zero profit with.‡
  • It's a one-time issue. You can't buy it and it is only issued for free to OZBargain users before the store opens to the public.
  • You also get the promise that the website never shows the rock-bottom price to those who don't have the Bargainer's License.
  • It allows you to buy up to 15 items per 3 month at rock-bottom-price (please feedback: how many do you need?), for you or gifting to friends.
  • We listen to you on what new products to stock.
  • It expires. To renew, gift a friend. The license gets renewed whe your friend register and fill in his/her address to receive it.
  • It is NOT viral! Your friend will not get a Bargainer's license just because gifted him, and unless you tell, they don't know how cheap you get them! You win friends!

This is how to get an OZ Bargainer's License (plan):
(Don't do it yet, I'm not ready):

  1. You, as ozbargain user, go to the store, choose what you like, don't worry about the price.

  2. You will receive a message with your OZ Bargainer's Licence, together with the rock-bottom cost of the product. In the meantime I will stock.

  3. Your Licence will become effective when I finish stocking and open the store to the public.

On gifting others to renew your licence:

You will have to cover the cost of the gift. The cheapest items is $2 with Bargainer's Licence. Not charged if gift not accepted.

Now, I wish to discuss this idea with you before putting it to execution. How do you think?

† The test site is http://w.enveloped.com.au. The goods are embrassingly limited: only 60 products, but they are all commonly needed items and I'll expand it to 500+ goods in half a year.
‡ About Rock Bottom Price: the price at which the store make no profit. It includes import duty, GST, delivery, paypal fee etc. So it should be the best lawful domestic price possible. Domestic = around 4 day in waiting for delivery.

There is an acronym/saying in the English language. K.I.S.S
You may want to look it up.

This is no means a simple plan, for both the business and the consumer.

    • Yes it's messy and wordy. Sorry. Can I later get a second chance? I am trying to work out a simpler post, perhaps toady.

For any problem, the solution can be KISS but the proof hardly can. I am half way to solution yet, so some proof is in it. The deal, once finalized, will have to be made really short.

    • I managed to delete 10+ lines from the original post, hoping this would make you care to read it:) You are right about English. I also removed James' example completely. Either readers get it without example story, or they don't bother to finish reading it, so James' story serves no purpose.

Two links, I just checked from Aussie and HK, seems working to me:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194994
      http://w.enveloped.com.au/

Can it be that you are accessing triple W? That address doesn't exist. I intend to progress to triple www in a month. single w is the first test.

      • My fault ,two many W'S.

        • It's intentional:) I am afraid starting with triple www would make visitors think that I am ready.

  • Merged from Can you find some bargains on ww.enveloped.com.au?

Hi. 20 days ago I posted about enveloped.com.au, the online store (not yet open) that sells every little thing that fits an envelop. Thanks for so many comments in my last post.

The store is in pre-launch, now that I've built up the catalogue and set a sale price on most items. And I invite you to check again.

    http://ww.enveloped.com.au

Please give some opinion. If you find some bargain, please tell, which I will include a pre-sale advertisement. The pre-sale is set to start this weekend.

In the pre-sale a lot items are cheap, the catch is that most of them will need 3 weeks to arrive. Since this is a domestic retail store, normally delivery should be 3 days, but in the pre-sale we are stocking.

P.S. A little embarrassing it is, to show an online store with only 100 products, but that already everything I can think of that fits an envelope. I'm working on adding new products in the meanwhile.

    • I don't know why this post is merged into "OZ Bargainer's Licence". They are of pretty different topics.

"OZ bargainer's licence" post is a dead marketing compaign idea, it is too long that no one bother to read. I've given it up as an over-complicated idea.

Today's new post is about asking people to check new catalogue (not to sell them, since we are not open yet). It's not a marketing compain.

I guess the "OZ Bargainer's licence" post is really so lon that no one even bother to read, even the moderator, and he thinks I am keep talking about the same thing. Is there a way to contact moderator about it?

Even worse, the two posts are about different links!

Old post is about w.enveloped.com.au - the testing site I made.
New post is about ww.enveloped.com.au - the pre-launch site I made.
There will be a 3rd post in the "Deals" section that points to the final www.enveloped.com.au

So readers would be mislead into clicking dead links from previous stage of development.

      • A bit off topic but i've noticed you spell envelope without the e on the end, just a small tip :)

        • Thank you. I am speaking a second language, and I'll keep it correct in the future. The old post has been locked, can't correct any more.

      • All of your post regarding your store are basically about the same thing, asking for opinions and feedback. Your threads are all over the place, sort of like spam imo. Why not just update the post, adding new info instead of creating a new thread everytime you have a new idea.

        • If I knew it will always be considered the same, I would have started using the same web address. But it was rather different to me (comments on concept, on marketing plan, on category of pre-launch site) and I used different website addresses for each topic. (So when people talk about old concept site they can still access the old concept site).

Now two posts 20-days apart being moderator-merged, the reply and original post are about different web addresses…
I made the earlier conceptual site links redirect in order to mend this confusion.

I learn from every accident. This lesson is that people will always think that I am talking about the same thing, and using different website for each discussion (w, ww, www) is not a good idea to start with. The right way is to always expose a single web address to the community. Problem is that I learned the lesson after the event.

  • Maybe you can ask for it to be merged with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194994.
or just start chatting on that post again.

    i had a look.
The idea seems a good one. the items seem to be like the things you find in the $3 Japan stores. http://www.daisojapan.com/

keep moving the store around a bit in design, something just doesnt seem inviting enough but I dont know what.
