      Thanks for the prices :)

I really like my A7S, glad I bought at the end of last year when the prices were $1900.

  • Sorry no deal Camera House are all round cheaper…
    http://www.camerahouse.com.au/search-results.aspx?search=Son…

And even so the prices have increased since last year. Shouldnt tech prices go down?

    • +2

Last year the dollar was at parity with the USD, today it's down to 77 cents. That's why prices have risen.

      • -6

Still, I would have thought Tech prices would still fall to at least offset the drop in the dollar. 😕

          thanks for sharing your feelpinions.

Can you relay a message to the boys sitting in the office not to do fake promotions/Discount anymore…. in my eyes (and likely others too) the DigiDirect brand is now just as much BS as Georges.

      • Syswong

Can I ask which fake promtions are refering to ?

        • +1

Yesterday YOUR A7R price was $19XX and now you change price to way more expensive and give SO CALL…$500 cash back. Its not just fake it disgraceful.

As others point out videopro is $100 cheaper than digidirect without so call CAHBACK

          https://www.videopro.com.au/p-7111-sony-a7r-digital-slr-ilce…

Answer me this, did you guys got taken over by Geogers or does the management of DigiDirect think all customer is stupid.

Its not the first time. During Christmas the Sony Fe24-70 was price down to just under $900. even Paxton was selling at $849. Your guys is King street store told me that YOu have to sell it at 1.1K because $849 is under you cost? PLEASE!!!

        • @syswong:

          +1

When Sony direct sells it cheaper than what digidirect has originally advertised you can tell straight away that they are trying to rip customer off.

        • @syswong: You claim Digidirect's A7R price was $1,900 and they put the price up? The website didn't show that:

          Digidirect 27 May 2015 10:45:52 AEST A7R price: $2,448

          Digidirect A7R current price: $1,858

As for any claim that Sony direct are currently selling cheaper: Sony direct A7R current price: $2,899

          Ted's A7R current price: $1899.95 (must be a rip-off)

Myer A7R current "special offer": $2,250 (totally rip-off)

And what might be the best current price:
          Videopro A7R current price: $1,797.40

But before this sale, Videopro were over $100 more expensive than Digidirect - what a rip-off, eh
          Videopro 21 May 2015 04:12:07 AEST price: $2,553.10

If it weren't for the likes of Digidirect, we wouldn't get the camera stores driving their prices down trying to win our business. Maybe Digidirect can bring their price down close to Videopro, maybe not - but we are the winners here.

(note: current prices current as of 29 May 2:41 AM AEST)

It seems you make this allegation based on a Whirlpoolian's mistake:

          Valyn88 said:

Just got an email from Digidirect, stating that there is $500 cash back on A7R and $200 cash back on A7, A7ii and A7S.
          28th May to 31 May.
Thought this might be useful to people that haven't subscribed to digidirect newsletter. I think this puts the A7R at $1448 looks like a good price.

Valyn88 received an email from Digidirect saying there was $500 cashback. They check Digidirect's website and see the A7R's price is $1,948 and mistakenly think "wow, $1,948 - $500 = $1,448!".

However, the price earlier that day was $2,448. My guess is Digidirect then reduced the price down $500 (cashback deal) to $1,948, and sent an email to their customers announcing the deal.

I think you owe Digidirect a little apology for your rudeness.

        • @Thrift:

I don't care how much was the original price, but when Sony direct sells it for <$1800 and digidirect is asking $1948 initially then it shows that they are trying to rip ppl off.

Them adjusting price after goes to show that they were being dodgy.

        • @mg_k:
Where is Sony directly selling the A7R for <$1800 ? Their online store says $2,899.
When were Digidirect selling for $1,948 initially (ie, before they reduced the price to $1,948 with the $500 cashback)?

        • @Thrift:

          Seriously??

          http://whrl.pl/RejpQi

This sale isn't limited to digidirect, Sony direct is selling below what digi is asking for.

Read the first post above from iceychow2000, digidirect was asking for $1948 after discount, and within hours Sony direct sent an email out and price is much lower.

          That alone is dodgy.

        • @mg_k: What you call "Sony direct" isn't Sony.

Sony Centre Robina is owned and run by Videopro, who licence the Sony name and branding and get Sony benefits.

Sony Centre World Square and Sony Centre Chatswood are Bing Lee Electronics.
Sony Centre Melville and Sony Centre Cannington are Central AV.

So it's no surprise that Videopro and Sony Centre Robina dropped to the same price.

So no, Digidirect aren't trying to rip people off by selling under RRP. They may not have the current cheapest price, but that still doesn't make it a rip-off.

        • @Thrift:

Who cares who owns what when you can get that same price @ Sony Parramatta and Chatswood?

You'd be stupid to overpay at Digi and wait 3 months for it lol

        • @mg_k: You and syswong accuse Digidirect of jacking up the price for the sale, being dodgy, and ripping off customers. All demonstrably false.

Yes there are cheaper prices, but that doesn't mean Digidirect is ripping anyone off.

        • @Thrift:

I didn't accuse digi for jacking up their price before the "sale" (maybe syswong did).

The problem is their so-called "sale" is getting beaten literally everywhere, and when that happen they have to "adjust" their price? Don't tell me they didn't see that coming…

That's why I have to call them out - no bargain from Digidirect, very shady practice and most importantly not worth posting here.

Videopro prices just dropped as well:
    Sony A7-$1196.80
    Sony A7II-$685.20
    Sony A7R-$1797.40
    Sony A7S-$2346.30

They use to be really good few years back. Now the are as deceiving as Georges, bumping up price before discounts, selling stuff with old price when supplier lowered price.

Seems CameraPro, Ryda, Videopro, are all more transparent on price. I rather pay a little fright cost to support them rather than supporting crocks like DIGIDIRECT and GEORGES……

    • So did Sony Centre… very similar pricing to Videopro

      • Sony Centre Robina is Videopro

  • sony is still lacking of a lot of fixed aperture lenses, especially for the mirrorless

    • +1

Yea? They have 21/28/35/50/55/90 macro and the upcoming Batis 25 & 85, not to mention all the A mount and 3rd party primes. You call that lacking? How many more do you really need?

      • I am talking about the zooms in f2.8 range

        • +2

Reason being a constant f2.8 holy trinity is simply too large and heavy to a point that it defeats the purpose of going FULL FRAME mirrorless.

  • +2

Was better when the a7 was $1000 and included the 28-70 lens and LA-EA4 adapter. Also the a7 ii was cheaper and included the lens and adapter when it first came out.

    • Also I should mention that it took me 5 months to get an order from Digidirect because they had no stock.

      • Hi Orpheus
That was because Sony Australia could not supply us stock as there was a world wide shortage

  • sorry a bit off-topic. I have the old Sony SLT A55, what kinda lens should i get if I want to take realestate photos? (ie. to make the rooms/backyard bigger etc). Is it a "telephoto" lens? I'm completely new at photography so I have no idea…

    • No, you need the opposite sort of lens, a wide-angle lens. That's a focal length of 35mm or less for full-frame format, which the A7 series have, or 23mm or less on APS-C format, which your SLT has.

The lenses for the A7 series will not fit your old camera, but your lenses for the SLT can be fitted to an A7 camera by an adapter and the A7 camera can be used in APS-C mode rather than full-frame when using your old lenses.

      • thanks for the tip. So in "english" ;) I think I need to get a wide-angle lens… I looked on ebay with "keywords like "sony a55 wide angle lens", and I got a whole heap of different ones…if I just want something basic, which should I get? (BTW I'm using a superzoom lens at the moment, I think it's like 55-255mm or something). Would those lens fit on top or I have to change lens (hate that…i know that defeats the purpose of a DSLR lol).

        • Ah, I failed to mention the magic words "A mount" (which is what your camera's got). Try googling "sony a mount wide angle".

The a7 series cameras that this thread is about have, despite their name, a E mount. Sony's own A-mount lenses have names starting with "SAL" whereas E-mount lenses have names starting "SEL" (I think).

I don't mind clarifying information but I can't do people's research for them.

Here is a similar question in a forum:
          http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/51920158

There are lists of Sigma and Tamron lenses with A mounts here:
          http://sonyalphalab.com/sony-alpha-and-nex-technology-camera…

Yes, you change from your current lens to the wide-angle lens, and then back again when you want to use your old lens. If you don't like changing lenses (a procedure which lets dirt and dust settle on the sensor), you might be better off with a non-interchangable-lens camera with a wide-angle capability. A site that can help you find one is http://www.neocamera.com/

        • @photochris: thanks so much! :)

  • Not sure if this is a partially better deal

    http://www.camerastore.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=sony+a…

Free 28-70mm and a SD card for $1,349

    • +1

Nah… that is the kit lens that Sony give away during Christmas. Most A7(s) shooter doesn't want it so you will have a hard time selling it as there are still plenty of stock in ebay. Just go with video pro or Sony center if you really need one. I personally think there would be better deals towards end of the year.

      • Disagree.

The kit zoom can be sold for around ~$250, and that will bring the body only price lower than anywhere else.

        • I didn't expect mgk2 to be here as well other than wp :)
unless you are not that guy lol

        • @coffeetoma:

          You betcha ;)
