Free Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) Alternative

What software do you use as a free offline alternative? preferably with good interface

    • Been a user since StarOffice 4…

      Note that the latest LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org cannot open the pre-StarOffice 5.x documents, whereas I think even the latest Office 2013 open MSOffice 97 files.

  • Unless you have to do a lot of formal presentations or documents I think open office and google docs would be fine.

    Depends what you are using it for?

    I used open office as an alternative for a long time. But when I needed to produce formal documents for printing I felt the formatting options were not as nice as Word.
