    • +9

Who the hell do you think you are? jv?

      • -2

        just after a bargain :)

      • +1

Needs more bold text if he's working that angle

  • +1

if they came with the Jamma boards then consider a deal.

EDIT: I see it comes with a Pi 2 which is not bad

  • +1

They come with a Pi 2.

    • would be potentially interested in an option without the Pi 2, considered offering something like that?

      • -1

Ye sure. Just contact me via the "Get In Touch" page and you can exclude any components you like. Thanks.

  • Great deal. Thanks OP. Just bought one for my 10 and 7 year old sons. They love these games

  • does the DYI kit need any soldering or is just plugging it all together? also does is it come with any games preinstalled?

    • -1

Hi, only 4 points need soldering but they can come pre soldered if you ask after checkout. No pre-installed games. Roms will need to be loaded via USB or network. Thanks.

  • I want one!

If I want to paint the side boards, I'm guessing the flat pack one would be best for me? As opposed to disassembling the expensive one?

    • Hi, yes either flat pack would be best for that as you could paint the panels before assembly.

      • +1

Having thought about doing this for 10 years - this looks awesome and at a good price point

PS: also the flat pack comes with detailed instructions? I'm hopeless at this sort of stuff

  • Also can you hook in a controller via USB port to play 2 player?

    • -1

Yes you can. It's configured for wired or wireless Xbox 360 controllers. Wireless will require a wireless receiver though.

  • +1

Do you do cocktail table versions? I'd love one of those…..

    • No but maybe that can be my next project.

  • I'd be interested in one of these, the DIY version particularly just because I like building/tinkering with stuff. How hard would it be to customise it so that if I wanted to, I could plug a HDMI cable into it to hook it up to the TV, or I can just play it off the LCD?

    • Hi, you can definitely play it off the inbuilt LCD but you could also easily run a cable out of on of the holes in the back panel into a TV/Monitor. I'm also working on a version that has no inbuilt screen and will be run purely off a TV.

      • +1

im keen on this version. mutliplayer was the best thing about the old rom games.

Who remembers this sega arcade machine:

      • For what its worth, I'd be interested in a no TV version. The closest I've got is using a Wii with emulators, but the ROMs I want to play can't seem to run (e.g. mame ROMs runandgun 1/2)

These look terrible and tiny compared with some of the other stuff out there, although I suppose that they are relatively cheap.

    • +1

They're not really built for looks. More so for functionality and value for money.

    • +2

dont see how they look terrible, sure the screen might be small but the construction and shape look mad. Considering you didn't bother highlighting any other local manufactures and prices its hard to take what you're saying seriously. Half troll Half heckle comment in my books.

      • Please excuse the late reply. This is a classic case of "advertise something that is a cool concept to people who aren't actually into the thing enough to have seen the alternatives". It's not my job to point out where they're available. There's any number of places and you'd know of them if you were seriously in the market for this sort of thing. Typically the good ones don't stick together like jigsaws and have space for a decent sized monitor.

Having said that, a good for "mini arcade cabinet australia" came up with the following examples:

        http://www.graysonline.com/auctionproduct/888softw88-2123161…

        http://www.arcadegamingaustralia.com.au/product/bar-top-mini…

        http://arcadeclassics.com.au/store-2/arcade_machines/mini-ba…

Obviously, there's infinitely more online and the best and most reasonably priced examples are usually available from enthusiasts themselves, form what I've seen (check out aussie arcade, for example).

They are cheap though, which is sort of something.

    • Compared to what? the ones that you build?

They look great for a one player kit

      • Well, the one I have built looks a lot better, yes. Of course, it's full size and not for sale, not mass produced and hasn't gone through all the difficulty that I'm sure the OP did to get it to market.

Anyway, you could seriously only think they look good if you hadn't looked at any others, which all the butt hurt evidently haven't.

  • +1

    disagree with dzhay….
although they're rough, the balance of price & looks is good… people can make it their own

my suggestion for next project, would be a way to make it 2 player…or maybe 3/4 player..

many people enjoy & have memories of playing these sorts of games against their friends ;)

    well done exacto

    • Thanks mate. You're right, I have a lot of good memories playing against friends. A two player version is definitely coming up.

      • +1

Oh I might have to wait for that version then :) Street fighter 2 tournament, coming up!

My suggestion would be to have a LCD version like you have now with 2 players, but as its two players, as they might want to play on bigger screen, have the inbuilt facility to either use the included screen(so its more portable) OR let the users plug in a HDMI cable which goes to big screen TV. And have a switch to switch between the two.

        • +1

Cool idea, I'll see what I can do. Hit me up if you like via the "Get In Touch" page and I'll keep you updated.

  • +1

You recon a 10.1 inch screen would fit in it (if I hacked at it appropriatley?) it's about 28cm long by 14 high
(i've already gotten a 10.1" screen from another pi related project!)

    • +1

Unfortunately no. The cabinet itself is only 25cm wide. Contact me through the site if you want me to custom make one for you.

  • If u have an ipad or other android tablet the icade would be better and cheaper. Install emulator and download the roms

    • Doesn't compare

Credit where due, you have done a lot of the work most people wouldn't bother with in gathering the various components and finding a configuration which works. It's not an insignificant service and is worth paying for. That said, for the price you are charging a very significant premium on what is maybe $100 in parts and perhaps 3-4 hours of your time for each build at most. Dropping that from $550 to $450 really isn't a bargain by any stretch when I would put this as worth maybe $250 max.

Side note: If you haven't actually tried emulation on RPi2 don't get your hopes up for anything special. It's significantly smoother than the original Pis but you still can't run anything newer than a SNES emulator with any consistency. There may the the odd PSX game but generally things like PSX/N64/etc are a waste of time.

    • +2

Thanks for the credit, it has taken a lot of hard work and research to get this far. Regarding the price I have to say you are wrong. If you did some research, which I'm not expecting you to do, just the components and materials themselves easily cost me over $250. And yes you are right in guessing that it does take me 3-4 hours per build. I don't know about you but that's a lot of time for me and my time is precious. When I get a few orders at once it's a full time job.

Yes it's crap at running PSX and N64 but these are really for playing retro games. Arcade, Nintendo, Sega, Atari, etc. Literally thousands of games, and it runs them fine.

      • If you did some research, which I'm not expecting you to do

I have put together my own arcade cabinets, jukeboxes, karaoke consoles etc and am well aware of component pricing.

        • +1

Great. Now add to that the time and costs associated with designing the machines, building prototypes, running a website, laser cutting, packaging and see if you can build them cheaper.

        • [@exacto](/comment/2809627/redir:
You've already got my vote. Enough said.

        • Thanks.

  • I'd be interested in purchasing a level 2 kit if the soldering/crimping work was already complete. Possible?

    • Hi, yes of course. Just let me know before/after you order. Thanks.

      • Howdy,

I put a level 2 kit in my cart last night and it was still on sale for $375, seems that the price has gone up now that I have gone to pay.

Any chance of honouring the $375 price?

        • Hi, ye should be fine. Please message me through the Get In Touch page on the website and I'll sort it out for you. Thanks.
