  • can anyone recommend which car battery from repco i should get? I've read their battery is a rebadge of Century but I am not sure if they come with 24mths warrant. Thanks in advance.

    • The battery market is pretty much a monopoly anyways. Just get the cheapest with a 24 month warranty. 12 month warranty is like 140, 24 month 160, 36 month 180. It doesn't matter where you go, the prices are pretty much the same everywhere.

      • thanks for your reply. Will check them out tomorrow. Cheers.

      • Lol, very true. There are a few independents out there but when it comes to the big boys there are 3-ish.

I would still be wary when buying budget batteries though as with less warranty comes less led and lesser plate construction which can reduce the cold crank amps it can output. Not so much an issue for a small car, but alot of diesels and larger engines require quite a strong CCA to crank and you will kill a lesser battery quick putting it under that much pressure.

    • what kind of car have you got?

      • My missus drives a 5yo Lexus Hybrid to work which is only 2km from home so you could say the vehicle is only used for short trips on weekdays and every now and then, the car is parked for a week. We've had no issues starting up the car each day but I did a health check this week and the indicator on the battery is in the 'add water' marking but it's a no-maintenance batttery type. I recently installed a dashcam camera which is plugged into the cigarette lighter and this may be draining the battery somewhat.

        • Unlikely. In most cars, the cigarette lighter socket is only powered when the key is in the "accessories" or "on" position. If the engine is running, you won't be draining the battery, so really it's only possible for your dash cam to drain the battery while the key is in the accessories position.

        • Is it a century by any chance?
Checked my friends battery yesterday after they had trouble starting their car. The indicator showed add water. Even though it appears to be no-maintenance, it actually has a semi-hidden flap that you pull up to expose the filler caps.
          Each cell was bone dry.

    • My mates battery died yesterday so I drove him to a battery place and he was about to pay for a new battery and I realized the old battery from his car which we bought along was still under warranty . Walked outside and rang the Malz store which had since disappeared but the number went to a century dealer (autobahn) who said to bring it in . Took it in and the replaced it no questions asked . Apparently they come with a nationwide warranty . As stated elsewhere most batteries all come from only a couple of sources with different stickers . I've been told wholesalers pay a little extra for a battery with a century sticker on it which from what I've experienced is maybe worth a few extra bucks for the peace of mind .

    • I just bought a supercharge battery from a dealer. Seems to be going well . http://www.supercharge.com.au/
The place I bought it from tested my old and new battery with a device called a carbon pile load tester. It puts a sustained draw on the battery and reads the voltage at the same time. Told me that my old battery was cactus. Despite passing a quick test, under load the voltage dropped to half what it should be, explaining why it couldnt start the car in cold weather
