  • I'm not always near a Safeway station … It'll also be good to see a bit of competition between the two chains.

    • What does 'mod' means infornt of your user name ? Are you a moderator? Apologies, I'm a new bee :)

      • Yep - but always look at the comment - we are bargain hunters too. The system doesnt let us take our hat off when we are posting "privately".

  • Exactly. My Coles is practically beside my house. But Safeway is 20 miniutes drive. Not always feel to drive that far when Coles is next to hand. I wanna grab this deal.

Maybe you should have said "Not bad dough!!" :)
There is a coles express near my work place so I'll probably use this.

Hey, I have been a lurker but now a member and want to understand how this is a deal, unless you spend $10 on bakery products often then this is a no deal.

If you usually spend $5 on bakery products (instore) and well you spent $10 this time, then you spent $5 that you wouldnt normally spend to get 10c off a litre.

So if your car takes less then a 50litre fill up, then your losing out as you spent an unneeded $5 for a token amount of 10c a litre off.

eg. Bob Spends $5 on instore bread, but buys $10 this time say a he bought an 'extra 6 pack bread roll + a cake' which he was NOT going to buy anyway, and he fills up 30 litres. 30litres x 10c = $3.00 saved, but he spent an extra $5 on bread. so total savings is MINUS $2….

he ends up worse off $2…. and he has bread and a cake that he is unlikely to use or even need!!??

Most sedans and above (Camry+) have a 70L tank, just wait till your tank is almost empty and fill up…

Plus you can freeze bread :P

      • Man ! You told what I just thought !! I will buy an extra bread …and can make a Turkey Sandwich. Yummmm.

Very true. I wouldn't want to spend an extra $5 to get 10c per litre off petrol.

However various members of my family sometimes buy $10 worth of products from the supermarket bakeries, so I'm going to let them know.

That and I use an electric shaver so I won't be getting in on the Safeway Gilette offer :)

So, definitely, it's going to depend on the individual if it's a bargain for them :)

  • X needs to spend 30 dollars to get a 4/c discount from Coles. Lets see, within this 30 dollar, there is 5 dollar for breads. This time X will pick up a cake of 5 dollar more. Now X has spent 35 bucks in which 10 dollar is Bakery. OMG ! Now, X will get 10 cents off in Petrol in Coles express. Sweet as Cake.

In this case 'X' is me,. Mate, your calculation may be right. I think, I'll take the submission off if more people think so.

Lol!! and remember @ 8pm ish bread is reduced 50% ;-) immediate saving and no gimmicks!!

I sometimes get woolies bread (20 rolls) for $2 in the night if u know a decent store.. 10c a single roll ;-)

Plus the woolies products (bakery, meat and chicken) is of much higher quality then all the coles i have tried.

    • Decent store ?? not Coles or Safeway ? Yeah man ! Fresh fruit, vege and Bakery ….I think woolies are much better than Coles.

spending extra money on grocery stuff is ok, as we all need it
spending extra money on Bakery products IF you don't eat all of them, is a WASTE!!!

WASTE ON FOOD, WASTE FOR ENVIRONMENT, WASTE OF MONEY!!!

personally, if you used to buy a lot of bakery products from coles, then this is good, otherwise…it's a waste!

  • why would anyone buy $10 worth of bakery products from the overpriced coles express?

if buying from coles, it's a good deal. but coles express? nah~

    • I don't think you have to buy the baked goods from Coles Express - you just get the petrol there - you can buy the baked stuff from regular Coles stores from what the wording seems to suggest.

  • I think this is a good deal, coz I normally fill over 50L every time.

  • I better load up on loaves of bread! Haha.

  • can i use this on any bakery food? or it has to be coles branded one?
where's the link for this promo? couldn't find it in coles website

For me this is a prettty good deal. I have a 180L tank - of which i can fill 150L with the 10c off. So the total saving will be $15. I get the bread free as well as $5 worth of free fuel.

  • woolies pre-packed bakery products are all frozen shit

  • i currently get 8c a litre off, and under the T&C's of this offer, it states

"Customers who receive this 10 cent fuel discount are no longer eligible for the standard fuel discount offer. "

so it's not worth stocking up on $10 worth of bread just to save 2c a litre…
