Overpriced Goods/Services List

Hi people,

Thought I would start a thread that lists some of the most grubby sellers out there and their sales:
Why? for the same reason these people put ridiculous prices on their products…… Because we can, & to warn people not to fall into sales traps.

Now I haven't been stung by this person but I was doing a random search on eBay for 30pin iPhone chargers and this Grub in Pyrmont had this Price $99.00!!!
Makes me laugh and same time ticks me off that these Scumbags are around.
Now some might say or the seller might say "it's an honest mistake". I say BS!! :)

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=2216879…

So yeah, I'm interested from you guys about any product/services that you have seen that are ridiculously overpriced.

Not asking you guys to go out your way, but if you stumble upon a stupid price then yeah post the link.

I get "caveat emptor" and all that but hey I'm interested in
"caveat venditor" LET THE SELLER BEWARE!!!
Cause we are on to you. ;)

Peace.

ebay sellers often use this tactic when they are out of stock - I guess easier to bump price than remove listing and recreate later.

Correct ,also ending to many listings early has a negative impact on their account.

I honestly did not know that tactic as I have never sold anything on eBay.

Im not trying to create a lynch mob or anything I just looked at the price and thought "wow really?"
      thanks for showing me this.

      • An ebay seller just has to go into their settings and activate zero inventory. By doing that the listing will stay active until more stock is added. Ebay spends most of their time telling buyers what to buy and doesn't actually communicate with sellers when useful updates are rolled out.

    …"this Grub in Pyrmont…"

Battler has explained part of this common ebay tactic.
It helps a seller to maintain a ranking for their listings, whilst stuff is temporarily out of stock.
Better that, than have you complain that they take too long to send your item.
Blame the Ebay system if you don't like the tactic.
It can be (but not always) an indication of an honest seller, and not a "Grub".

Thanks for the warning of not buying overpriced goods.

    • surprised he didn't also use the word "scam"

Pretty much anything at RRP from kathmandu or harvey norman

    • Or Dick Smith - especially given the frequency of their 'deals'

    • And for a matched set: http://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-NRG-WEL-Signature-Series/dp/B0055OM9WS/ref=pd_sim_sbs_23_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=18SCP1D5MD3ZGCKWFCNE.. If your power cord doesn't have counter spiral geometry, then you're a pleb..

  • You want to warn people not to pay $99 for something that Worths less than $5? No point cause you can't fix stupid.

  • Veterinary products for your pets. Saw my partner had taken our dog to the vet, and bought the following for approximately $240

    [Advocate 6 Pack All Wormer)(http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ADVOCATE-For-DOGS-6-Pack-Treats-F…)

Shipped on eBay for $100, and I'm sure you can probably get it cheaper.

The purchase history clearly shows what they are usually sold as.

  • A lot of brick and mortar niche, crafts and hobby shops sell over priced things. I get they are small businesses trying to make a living, but the markup a lot of the time is unreal. Often I will be on my phone comparing prices online when I'm at the craft supplies shop and end up leaving empty handed.

1 60cm dressmakers' zipper costs $1.95, and the same thing from a bulk wholesaler on eBay costs $4 for 10, if you don't mind waiting 2 weeks for (free) delivery.

  • The IGA near my university raises (or rather removes discount and sells at RRP) the price of the energy drinks during the exam period. It goes up to like $5~$6. I know that it's all about supply and demand. Though I personally find this practice rather stupid, since there are vending machines in the university. More than often, the vending machines are cheaper than the IGA during the exam period (and you can get energy drinks cheaper from the grocery stores near the city).

  • All you need to do is look at lego prices on ebay and even gumtree now. Most sellers I am seeing now as the op puts are grubs. There is a definite difference between profit and greed, artificial inflation and taking advantage. If I was going to vent about it i would complain about how some sellers have gone so far to report some ads for sale on these sites to get them removed l so they can sell their own at inflated higher price. As always it's buyer beware.

  • I sell crap on ebay. everything I sell makes me at least 200% profit.

sometimes I put slightly stupid high prices on one item and sell an identical item at a reasonable price. I do this so people comparing the 2 items will think "I'll buy the cheaper one and save money". but it is still overpriced and I'll make money. and if some one buys the stupidly high priced one then they are stupid (or they have money and they don't care about the cost and they get their product and are happy and I make more profit and I'm happy).

welcome to the wonderful world of capitalism. this is how people make money.

I doubt anyone will buy that $99 charging cable. You'll see in buyer history that people have only paid $7.99.

this is an item that can be bought wholesale for 40cents in bulk.

the seller is still making $6ish profit per cable.

why are they selling for $99? as above out of stock.

  • I've always been told,

"you only buy the wrong the things, rather than never sold the wrong thing"
