What Are People's Choice for The Next Gen Android Mobile Device (for 2015)?

Hi,
I am still undecided on which handset to upgrade to from the Nexus 5.
Some popular options includes the Samsung S6 or LG G4 or Sony Xperia 3+

If you had $900.00 to spend, which mobile device would you purchase?
Let me know if I have missed any.

Cheers

I voted for the Sony Xperia 3+ as the Sony Xperia 3 was a great device.

As an Xperia Z3 owner, I almost regret not sticking out with my old Nexus 4 until the LG G4 came out. The camera performance has left a little to be desired and there is a distinct lack of good accessories for the Z3. Both of these gripes should be a non-issue for either the Galaxy S6 or the LG G4.

      • my son has come from a Z3 to a G3. He loves the LG but he doesn't like how the camera doesn't have all the manual settings that the Sony had. No idea about the G4.

The LG takes great photos though, and overall its a nice phone.

Seeing most phones use Sony sensors you would think their range of phones would have the best cameras but they always seem to compress them a bit too much.

accessories for the Sony, I agree. try getting a decent case after a year of its release.

Battery life on the Z3 is fantastic, son has noticed that as well.

Nexus 5 2015 - at least if the rumours are correct and the price is sane.

    • What rumours?

        • Mods, can you please add LG Bullhead & Huawei Angler to the list?
          Thanks

G4 looks great but I can't commit my vote until the Nexi are released!

    • Wonder what price tag the Nexus 2015 will be?

  • Either oneplus two or a new nexus 5.

  • I have a S6, waiting for the Note 5 to come out.

Every single year without fail, the flagship Note has been the best big phone, looking forward to what Samsung can bring next in terms of raw hardware. It's proven that it can trim down Touchwiz to a pleasant experience already, waiting for a killer 4k screen, 5 gigs of ram and insanely powerful processors.

    • Hey how's ur S6?

S6 is great, it's an amazing feel, people give the battery life flak but it'll last you a day.

I'm honestly very pumped for the Note 5, I'd literally ditch the S6 the second it comes out if it has a 4k screen and enough specs to back it.

The S6 by the way is very very crisp. The best smartphone display out of any phone (I've tried a LOT of phones).

        • Haha cheers. I'm not a fan of big phones so I will have to pass note 5.

Only thing that's stopping me from getting the S6 is that I have heard it doesn't pair well with Jaybird Bluetooth earphone +.+

        • @sauce2k:

People have tried to argue that it doesn't use the latest Bluetooth, but honestly I use it with some bluetooth speakers at home + trigger + an NFC tag and it works just as well as I'd like it.

At the very VERY least there is no reason why it would be any worse than ANY last gen phone, and I find it works perfectly fine.

        • Thanks for the feedback.

I am waiting for Note 5, the list don't get me excited.

    • Mods, can you please also add Note 5 to the list?
      Thanks

      • Isn't there a way to setup the poll so anyone can add an option?

        • unfortunately I can't change it now.
          Maybe a mod can?

LG G4 everytime even though I love stock android, this camera is too good

  • You left off a lot of decent Chinadroid phones off the survey

    • Which Chinadroid should we add to the list?

  • I am waiting for the S6 Active

    • S6 Active got announced in US.

Looks like it doesn't have the removable battery nor the micro SD card support, not completely sure though.
Though, if it does have those two features, I'd probably consider it as a option (Also if it is doesn't use cap for waterproof function, that's a plus for me). Though even without those two features, the battery capacity looks amazing and them military certification (MIL-STD-810G).

  • There is a rumour about another premium phone being released by LG. I personally think right now, the playground is not even since Qualcomm messed up big time and not many companies have options other than Qualcomm. Personal opinion of course, I think someone could argue that the technology on phones have improved to an extent where the extra processing power makes difference, but it doesn't make the experience something completely different.

That being said, I'd personally wait till end of this year for a more interesting market.

    • I feel that Samsung might be onto something with their Exynos chips to be honest, it would be great if they continued to streamline things down to fit their own platform and processor.

      • I think it's a great backup plan and a differentiating factor. I think Samsung is trying to reduce the amount of dependency they have to Qualcomm by creating more Exynos models, there is another Exynos model that's supposed to be better than Snapdragon 615 (for their middle range models) as well. It's not that they are completely ditching Qualcomm though, rumoured S6 Mini had Snapdragon 808 on the benchmark that was leaked.

I remember LG wanting to do something similar, but I think the first model that they've released was worse than Snapdragon 400. I want to see what's happening with that too.

  • I'd suggest Xiaomi Mi Note Pro or the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5

  • Elephone P7000

  • I'm waiting for the Oppo R7 Plus (~$600 aud listing on taobao).
Its pretty much a Huawei Ascend Mate 7 with Snapdragon 615, better camera (ISOCELL, Phase Detection+Laser autofocus).
Now if it would like to be released before I go to Hong Kong mid year :p

    • Snapdragon 615 isn't that good?

      • not that good but it should pair with the 4100mAh battery better than the hisilicon in the already durable Mate 7.
I value battery life+camera more because of my snapchat addiction

    • the R7 is certainly thin, feels a little too thin in the hand.

  • Currently waiting on Telstra to restock S6

The Galaxy Note 5. Considering I like the Note 4 genuinely better than the S6 in certain ways I simply can't wait to see what is in store. I can see the Note 5 simply being a ~6 inch 4K dispaly behemoth with amazing specs. The Note 6 however sounds like it will be the killer of all competitors if it really is what the patents show.

    I expect a:

    • ~6 inch 2160p Super Amoled display (Possibly 1440p)
    • 4000 MAH Battery (Phone will get .1mm thicker)
    • Auto eject stylus
    • Sadly, non removable battery
    • USB 3.1 C Standard
    • Much faster on board storage. No expandable memory via SD Card

Samsung has in the past and shown in the future the capability of:

    • Speakerphone stylus
    • Camera Stylus that charges via Stylus port
    • Edge display, either Dual or more defined Edge
    • Foldable display (I doubt this years model)
    • Both Windows 10 and Android working in Tandem or switchable at any time

Samsung needs to make the Note 5 have an amazing Tablet companion released at the same time that have some sort of great compatibility or something amazing. I think they should probably give up on Android for the Note line of tablets and release it on Windows 10 instead.

I saw in the OP that it should cost $900. The Note 4 was about $899 on sale on release and with the dollar the way it is, the price increasing, having to pay for 128GB storage I expect the Note 5 to cost me closer to $1250 or $1350 on sale.

    • I'd like to see a device that runs Windows and Android, but I remember reading something about MS or Google forcing Samsung and ASUS to stop developing those devices (or it might've been patent issues, I can't remember what it exactly was). So, I somehow doubt that it's going to happen. Also, it was with Intel i5, not with ARM CPUs, it was more of a laptop/tablet hybrid.

I remember seeing Samsung Windows tablets in past that had Wacom, I wish they'd, or any other manufacturers actually, release a Windows Wacom tablet with an atom CPU.

    • The Note 5 will be a great device, but the price tag maybe out of reach for some…

  • G4 Pro. Rumours about G4 Pro is out and it looks intriguing at least.
