Seagate 500GB External USB Hard Drive $65 from MSY

360

I see this deal today at msy website, think is 3.5" version instead of the 2.5", but they didn't have any other describtions. however still think is a good deal since just 500GB Hard disk will costs the same.

  • should reflect that it's a tuesday 8/12/09 only price

According to their website it's "Tudesday" only.. Is that the day after Modnday?

    • Nah mate, its the one before Weddnesday…

    • I can see that being how the guy would actually pronounce it, so maybe he's just being true to his accent?

    And the day before Sudnday.

    • you mean the day before wednesday.

  • The 22" wide LCD monitor with digital photo frame and media player looks pretty good too at only $165: http://www.msy.com.au/aonedaymadness/Proview10122009.pdf

Plus there's a $56 external slim DVDRW and a $23 logitech wireless keyboard + mouse.

    …might be worth posting seperately?

    • "The 22” wide LCD monitor with digital photo frame and media player"
does that mean all in one or buy 22 lcd digital photo frame and media player as bonus?

      • All in one, but I realise it's not that great considering the 22" Asus from 9289 that we saw recently.

  • Hello feng, please put the date of the sale in the title (and in future titles). :)

  • would be good if its a 2.5 :)

Sweet, might pop into the ultimo store to pick one up.

  • good deal, im going on tuesday to pay advance for my comp neway. Might pick it while im there. :)

  • If it is costing $65 for a 3.5" 500GB External HDD then that's a $17 discount from their usual price - so on its on, yes it is a fair bargain.

However, a 1TB Seagate costing $125 would be cheaper than having 2 500GB Hard Drives as two of them amount to $130 whereas one 1TB will only cost $125.

On the other hand, one could opt for the more elegantly designed Lacie 3.5" 1TB for only $121 designed by Neil Poulton.

  • go with a packed lunch

  • I only need 500gb, i've currently got 320gb which is just enough atm. I will need more than 500gb in the future, but by then the prices will have dropped even more so it's cheaper to just get what i need now (6-12mths). I could probably sell my 320gb Mybook for $45.

I also want to upgrade my Topfield PVR which has it's original 120gb HD. It can only accept a 500gb drive as maximum.
But if i buy this external hard drive, will the warranty still apply if i take it out of the case?
Otherwise, i wonder what/where's the cheapest 500gb internal drive.

  • any idea whether this is a portable external hard drive, or a larger desktop version?
    thanks!

    • It is highly unlikely that this is the portable external hard. If you take a look at the MSY price list, the 3.5" Desktop version runs for $82, whereas the 2.5" External version runs for over $100.

  • +1 for the new website… anything was an improvment on what they used to have haha

Called up MSY in Morningside Qld. Model number is ST305004EXM101
    http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_ext_deskto…

    • Cool bro, good that it's not an old model, the brown ones with the orange stripe.

Morningside is my closest store too. I wonder how much stock they have.

  • Picked up 2 from Morningside today. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me what model drive is inside? Or what the specs for it are? I need to know the power consumption of the drive itself.
