  • Is it better than the Full HD model with the bonus Wii pack for an extra $588?
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/19775

    • I would skip this. You'd be better off buying the Full HD package, and selling off the Wii bonus. cost-wise it would work out almost the same as this well outdated unit.

  • 1024 x 768 resolution for a 42" widescreen (= non-square pixels) doesn't really cut it nowadays, particularly when most 32" screens I see on sale now are at least 1366 x 768 if not Full HD! There are plenty of great TV deals floating around; this isn't one of them.

  • 1024x768 is less than a non-wide (4:3) 19" monitor, and on the other hand 1080x1920 has more than 2.5 times the number of pixels, so in theory could be 2.5 times more detailed.

  • resolution is weird for a widscreen doesnt fit the 16:9 ratio…..
the full hd deal with the free wii makes it worth the extra cash to buy, if not just sell the wii and the tv would be roughly the same price but with full hd

    • a wii cost 200 bucks . how is it rougly the same price ?

      • Show me one place in Australia selling a wii by itself (not part of some multi deal) for $200? Also they are not just giving a wii. Bundled you also get Wii sports, MarioKart(wheel), and Avatar.

    • Our 42" fujitsu which we bought 4 years ago has a resolution of 1024x1024 which suggests it's a square and still looks better than half the so called HD plasmas out there today. So there is no reason to vote negative. The TV may still have a decent display

  • I looked at the market price in ebay for wii package and thinks that it can fetch around 250 or maybe more. Minusing that from the 1588 deal in http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/19775 will give around 1330 for the plasma. If you're lucky the wii may fetch higher but i think i would prefer the other deal.

please help me out with a few questions though:
What is Full HD? Is it 1920 x 1080?

Is there any other place to sell the wii caz i think ebay is getting competitive.

thanks in advance! and thanks for showing this deal as well!

not Full HD, not LCD, sorry

  • Guys, if you don't need/want FullHD, you still want to get a TV that can atleast fit 720p (aka "Normal HD") which is 1280x720. 1024 x 768 res of TV means you are missing out on 256 pixels of horiztonal information.

BTW, the only PLASMA panels that have the more common 720p compatible 1366 x 768 are the 50" or higher panels.

Soniq 40" Full HD 1080 LCD TV can be had for $898 @ JB hi fi
Toshiba Toshiba 40" Full HD LCD TV is LESS THAN $1096 (ask for a deal @ JB)

You can get that Toshiba for atleast $999 if not cheaper, its FullHD, and its an LCD.

I reckon it's only worth going for a plasma if you get one of the higher end ones, otherwise LCDs are superior at the low end.

Great if you want a no name LCD with grey blacks
      and 2" smaller

      Picture on these is great
PLasma has better blacks and better motion than a cheapo yumcha LCD
