Panasonic currently has a visa gift card offer running now for S9 and S5 series.

Lowest prices I could find are below

S9 with 20-60 kit lens = $1,999 ($1,849 after gift card)

S9 Body only = $1,745 @ Amazon AU ($1,595 after gift card) Third party seller , does not qualify for Visa gift card as they are not authorised reseller.

ATL price for kit I believe.

Kit deal not as good as this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/919746 which had a more appropriate lens for this body.

Controversial camera that split the internet but works for me. Sold my A6700 & Sigma 18-50. Pairing mine with TTArtisan 40mm f2 and the kit. Hoping for better zoom lens that would match my Sigma 18-50 next year.

Might get spat on by the pros.

  • this or sony a73?

    • Different target audiences I believe. Not very straightforward.

If you shoot birds, action or manual lenses then definitely Sony. Electronic only shutter & EVF will be missed.

But even if you plan 10-15% videos S9 has the edge.

Also real time LUTs and stuff are more of a casual hobbyist or ‘Dad cam’ features

I would gladly take s9 compared to a7iii. Colors are so much better in Lumix range straight out of camera

  • +4

I sold my A7iii and got s5iix. S9 is superb camera and great for photos and videos too. If you have no issues with no evf then go for it

CH Employee here, can speak for Brisbane stores, theres about a half dozen left across Brisbane. I don't have any visibility of others stores other than what's on our website.

This is a targeted clearance on the 20-60 kits, as they're being replaced with the 18-40 kits which are a little more compact (tho 20-60 is arguably better).

Warehouse is out of stock, but should still be able to organise postage orders from stores with stock. Internally our systems don't handle this quite as well as it should - please contact your preferred store with stock and talk to them first. They can confirm availability and also the best way to place your order online.

    • Any deal on S5ii + 20-60mm lens? Would be great to bring back this one - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881932 - It's a fantastic deal.

Way outside of my domain. I'm just a retail pleb :-)

    • Hey mate, do you reckon this is a good starter deal or should I wait and see if something better comes up? For context this will be my first camera and I’ll mainly be using it for travel photos.

      • My 2 cents. Don’t think so. Better off something with EVF and potentially apsc since you mentioned travel.

Smaller, cheaper lenses. You may also just need 1 lens like Sigma 18-50 or similar.

You may find some good deals on marketplace.

Sometimes I regret buying into the Sony ecosystem, but I guess every camera has it's pros and cons

  • Just looking into the Amazon listings for the camera body, the cheapest price is from the seller OzDigitalOnline. I looked them up and it seems they are selling the S9 black body for $1549 and the S9 silver body for $1569.

I don't know anything about OzDigitalOnline but reviews of the site seem OK? But I guess do your own research, buyer beware, etc…

    • +1

OzDigitalOnline are a grey market seller, ships from HK

    • +2

As far as I'm aware they are grey import. Less warranty (3 years on genuine Pana stock), not backed by Pana themselves, and also no bonus visa card.

      • I believe it’s 5 year warranty on genuine Pana stock bought from authorised resellers. 2 year standard and bonus 3 additional years .

        Class leading.

        • Ah true. Changed recently. Good change!

        • Class leading except last time I had a claim on a camera lens, Panasonic simply refused to acknowledge the manufacturing flaw/design defect and refused to deal with me, after the retailer also refused what should have been a simple repair. I don't think any professional photographer should rely on Panasonic to honour warranty or comply with ACL.

          • @Maker1: Good to know.

What was the issue just curious? We are lucky to have good consumer laws here. I have had luck quoting consumer laws in the past.

  • is this good as a webcam?

    • Smaller body will overheat eventually. Better with S5II.

  • I need flash support..

  • How bad of an idea would it be to get this just for photography only ?

    • Keen to know the same XD

    • I bought it purely for photography.

It’s tricky to openly recommend this camera for photography. It’ll depend on how you plan to use it.

Although it’ll produce stunning images out of the same sensor as flagship S5ii, 3 things will determine if it it’s good for your photography.

No Hotshoe : if you need flash, this is not the camera for you.

No mechanical shutter : High speed sports is a no go.

No EVF : Manual lenses lenses will be tricky to focus without evf, also shooting birds will be difficult.

If you don’t need any of the above, then definitely a great buy.

Build quality is another thing. I don’t find any issues with it as purists do (coming from a6700)
