    4gb ram :(

      Soldered with no socket for expansion :(

  • It was the same price on the site up until today.

  • +2

    Well, my comment is not about the deal, but about the laptop.

    XPS owner, better to try it before getting it.

    You may not like the touchpad and the keyboard. Google a bit the touchpad and keyboard issues of this model.

    :(

    • +2

      I love the trackpad on mine, its not the best one around but i think its really good. Latest bios update has fixed keyboard issues.

      • +1

        Mine is jumpy, had to do a painful workaround but now it is just too slow for the resolution.

        Keyboard has a very short stroke. Will try the bios update.

        • +1

          What's wrong with the kb?

        • @scheps:

          Just updated the bios, and so far the keyboard is (finally) working fine.

          Repeated strokes: that was the issue. Now, apparently, it's working correctly. In my case (and many other users are reporting the same) the touchpad is barely usable.

          May be a batch that went wrong, as the op here has reported that his one is working very well, but it is a common issue that the tp does not work smoothly, with the arrow jumping from one side to the other of the screen and ghost clicks.

        • @Starflex:

          Weird, must be batch issue, because i had no idea what you guys are talking about. I have the i5 8/256 config.

          I bought it when it first came out i think, and havent updated anything as yet. Aint broke dont fix it type thing.

  • Dell deals should be banned unless 25% or greater

    • Thanks crudman.
      I am in the market for an Inspiron 17" with 1920 screen. It's 20% off, but I can wait :)

    That's not exactly cheap for that hardware…

    • -3

      hardware wise you will find it hard to find this kind of machine for this price

      • Not at all.

        • +2

          So where is the link to a comparable or better ultrabook for this price then?

        • -4

          @snuke:
          Sony Vaio Pro 13 is $800 it is older i5 and its lighter and slimmer
          Otherwise I got a i7 256ssd 8gb dell xps 13 for $400 at pawn brokers

        • +1

          @thelastnoob: this is 2015 model of xps 13. sony has shut its shop down under for laptops. your i7 xps 13 is a good bargain but can't be compared to 2015 model.

        • -3

          @ozdesi:
          yes but its still a better option for $400 less if having budget constrains
          and last i checked greys outlet sells the vaio pro but maybe out of stock now edit-(confirmed oos)
          i know its a refurb but it appears new and has full warranty and is quite an amazing machine as when closed it is slimmer than a 5cent coin

          i didnt think there was much diff between xps13 2014 and 2015

        • +5

          @thelastnoob:

          So you're trying to compare an out of stock (read - no one can buy now), superseded, refurbished (read second hand) device to a current gen brand new one. Or a non gen specified, second hand one, again, without warranty from a pawn broker. Yeah, those seems like good comparisons.

          There is a huge difference between 2014 and 2015 XPS 13 models. The screens and therefore dimensions are massively different and superior.

        • -3

          @snuke:
          I agree with your points but only since its out of stock.
          As far as pawn brokers go you get 3 months warranty and I have dell warranty on mine as well. Its a good option and only option for people without enough money but want an ultrabook.

  • They trying to be Apple but no one is biting

    • Actually I think that's everyone tbh….

      • +2

        apple..not at all this one comes with more than just 1 port in the entire machine

    • Reviews are all over it, saying it's the one to beat, and no real reason to drop prices at this price-point.

  • +2

    8G/256G would be a deal.

    • So would 16G/512G
      But it doesn't change how sharp this price is, for this industry leading model.
      4.5 to 5 star reviews & BIG discounts don't coexist.

  • I wonder what SSDs computer manufacturers use anyway

    • +1

      I remember hearing about Surface Pro using something that's similar to Samsung 840 or 840 EVO. I remember this because I've heard stories about how SP3 users are affected by the read performance issues that relates to Samsung TLC SSDs like 840 or 840 EVO.

    • I have the XPS13 (256 gb SSD version) and its a "LITEON L8H-256V2G-11 M.2 2280 256GB" SSD according to the device manager. Not sure on the exact read/write performance, I'm sure you can look that up on the net somewhere :)

  • newest generation? isn't it XPS15

  • +5

    Compared this to the MacBook Air. The IPS screen and physical size of the Dell wins the day for me. It is Windows however. Anyway, don't forget this comes with a $50 eBay voucher to be used in July. 2% Cash Rewards for whatever that's worth. I really like this laptop. Would love to get the touch version but for some reason Dell only has the outrageously priced i7 version in Australia.

  • Are there any stores in Australia with this on display? I'd like to try the touchpad and keyboard before I buy it.

    • JB is the only retailer for Dell in Aus. Last I checked they didn't have these available.

  • Following the link takes me to a $1499 notebook. has the anomaly been corrected?

    • It wasn't an anomaly, it was a sale, so yes it seems it has finished.

      • thx - I thought that may have been the case but thought it curious to end an EOFY sale so early
        (my 9yo 17" HP luggable JUST died (RIP). OZB will be my favourite web site for the next couple of weeks…)
