Acer Aspire ES1-411-C2TL HDD Upgrade

Purchased the Acer Aspire ES1-411-C2TL N2840 laptop. I want to stick a small SSD that is laying around the house. I am wondering if you can add the original HDD in the DVD drive slot.

What is the best method of moving the OS to the SSD?

Also is it possible to use 1.5V DDR3 SODIMM's in one of these?

What other upgrades can I make without breaking the bank? Is it worth upgrading?

I have couple of i7 computers at home, but it is so much fun trying to tweak a budget computer such as this.

  • I removed all of the Acer bloatware and everything seems to run OK with 2GB RAM and original HDD. One thing I noticed was when playing HD video off youtube, Chrome browser was at about 69% CPU while IE 11 was around 19%. Haven't used IE since version 8. It looks like Microsoft have put some effort into the new version.

  • Nice little laptop. Very light and compact for a 14". No where close to an Ultrabook in terms of form factor but, weight wise I am very happy.

  • I brought one of these laptops as well… got myself a 128Gb Scandisk SSD.

No idea how to clone it over and make it all work.

I googled and found these results:

I need to get an external enclosure?

I just don't want to re-install everything back on from scratch and more importantly I don't want to shell out $$$ for software to clone.

Any guidance will be appreciated :)
