What Is The Largest Amount of Cash You Have Ever Carried?

So a guy asked if it was legal to have $2000 in his house and we all know it is not /sarcasm. I really thought it is the norm to carry large amount of cash and maybe it is.

So how much is the largest amount of cash have you ever carried ?

My experience:

  • helped a friend's father transporting $250k Euros to the bank. Fit under our scooter in Vietnam in one backpack.

  • Helped mum carried 1 billion VNDong from a house settlement to the bank. Took 2 backpacks to fit.

Many years ago, I worked in Guest Relations at a casino. One day I met a High Roller at his private plane, helped him carry his briefcase into the Rolls, then carried the same case into the casino, turned out it was full of $100 US bills. Like a scene from a movie. Later, I watched him gamble and he was using 100k chips.

      • That's easily 1mil+ me thinks!!

i think i held a $100 note once. Spent it straight away. Thought it was too much to carry around!

  • A couple of grands probably. I normally carry about $300 on me, usually no more than $500.
I should probably carry less as I rarely use that money, maybe spend $50 a week tops.

  • $9000. Handed to me at my grandfather's funeral…

Most I've ever carried in personal cash (money that I own) was roughly $2000 dollars. This was to pay for plumbing and house reno. Obviously the plumber wanted to avoid declaring tax.

Most I've ever carried on person to date was roughly $9540 dollars, and I had to be escorted to the bank by a security guard.

that's a slightly different question as that one is asking for daily amount as opposed to the largest amount ever

I had $1000 in cash lying around so decided to deposit it. It was the most cautious I had ever been driving. I was overly paranoid walking from the car to the bank.

  • When I was on the committee of a university student club, I occasionally had to handle ~$800-900 in cash takings at our largest events. Since our office wasn't secure enough to store that much cash until the bank reopened on the next business day, and there were also issues with letting our committee members take the cash home, I'd take out the notes and deposit them immediately at the nearest ATM, which was mildly scary at 11pm-12am.

$14,000 back before electronic transfers i had a dummy spit with the bank so i demanded all my money (being a true coinsaver and also wanting to be a pain i refused to pay for a bank cheque)trouble was by the time i got it all the other banks were shut for the weekend.Ended up having to hide it at my parents house.

$25000. My mum tried to withdraw $1000 from her ANZ account but they rejected her request as the bank card didn't have her signature, just scribbles. This is despite her showing her ID etc. So my mum decided to close the bank account and withdraw all her cash. Luckily CBA was just across the road.

    • Lol. How long did the bank take to organise that much cash ?

      • Pretty fast actually. Maybe about 10minutes

    • You go girl! Your Mum that is :) Love it.

In the late 80's I worked for a firm that had two sheds about 200 metres apart.
Every friday wages were done in one, guys in that shed were paid then I would walk down to the other shed with wages for those guys.
About 100 blokes working there, all paid in cash in the days before atm's on every corner and eftpos.
Back then it was about $30,000, the equivalent today would be well over $100,000.

  • About $5000 after selling my old car. Couldn't wait to get to the bank the next day to deposit it.

As a kid my brother gave me a coffee jar full of 5c pieces. At the time I thought it was a million dollars, but I think it was only about $10
Only time I have ever felt rich.

  • One dollar bill, that's all i carry around. This is people's reaction when I show them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smKrmXxxWQ4

  • I normally carry $50 on me for emergencies for the Asian stores that don't have card payments.

Though the most I ever carried on me was $400, and I felt like some rich drug dealer ballin' in da dough

  • I had a cracker night on the pokes, pulled a total of 4.5k profit out of the 5 dragons machines at 3 separate establishments.

I only went out with the intention of getting a pack of smokes but my flatmate at the time (problem gambler) dragged me into the Roseville club where it all began….don't think he was too pleased with me cleaning up while he got cleaned out haha.

Other than that about twice per year i carry a woolies bag full of coins into the bank, prob 1-1.4k each trip :p

  • Ten thou a few times. Atm withdrawls over $2k worry me.
But what really got me was when I realised I was carrying around $50,000 in three credit cards all the while which could be a risk. I now carry only one with $1500 limit.
