LEGO Hobbit is $-1.61 USD. Tried to get free games, but got rejected on the checkout.

  • +11

Appreciate the effort you've gone to OP … although overall it has been a pretty rubbish sale.
Note that some games have gone up in price
I had the following in my cart, expecting that (with some others) I could just buy them on the final "all in" last day sale.

    Price increases …
    Baldur's Gate 2 : Enhanced Edition $6.79 now $9.99
Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition $6.79 now $9.99
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit $4.39 now $9.99
Need for Speed Shift $4.39 now $9.99
Need for Speed Undercover $2.19 now $4.99
Rainbow Six Collection $7.49 now $17.99
One Finger Death Punch $1.24 now $2.49

    • +2

Give it a bit of time, the price update takes a bit of time I found (i.e. the negative price on LEGO Hobbits is still not fixed)

    • +1

Yeah, sale hasn't been the best. I picked up a couple of titles but nothing special.
Steam doesn't update all of the prices initially - can be delayed as Mitch has said.

    • +1

I hate it when you miss specials. The Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon bundles were great because they were on 1:1 parity with the US prices, while the individual titles cost twice as much as the Ameritopian prices (God bless Steam Enchancer and the IsThereAny site it interfaces with).

It doesn't seem like the earlier minigame titles are included in the encore, nor the Flash sales, whereas the Gog encore seem to include everything that has been on sale. It finishes tomorrow as well.

Here is a site with games sorted by discount %: http://www.steamgifts.com/sales/highest-savings
Here's another but it could do with some Ice since it is sluggish: https://steamdb.info/sales/#sales-section-summersale
There are a few decent titles $1 or less among the dross. Future Bundle material.

    • Appreciate the effort you've gone to OP … although overall it has been a pretty rubbish sale.

Yep, really poor sale this time around. Seems like thats the trend these days for steam

      • Maybe it's because we've already bought all the good games that there are none left worth buying?

(Inb4 someone points out that Shovel Knight has only gone beneath 25% off once on steam!)

  • should i buy cs:go now? do u think it will go any lower than 50%?

    • +13

No, it won't go lower. It's set at this price so it's not as affordable for hackers.

      • Instead of making new players pay the price because of hackers, why doesn't Valve figure a system to stop people from hacking?

        • +1

They try. Its a cat and mouse game.

        • It's not as easy as just making a system, they have ban-waves and Overwatch. They're trying. VAC works it's just slow.

    • -4

Nah, it's a rubbish game even if it was free

  • +15

I think this marks the 5th steam sale in which I havent purchased a single thing. Some of their prices are more expensive than 6-9 months back for either day one release or pre order games.
I am surprised that people lose their shit over steam sales. Unless you just purchased a PC today or have been living under a rock for a decade steam dont really have any deals anymore. All of their games can be bought cheaper from Humble Store, Bundle Stars, Green Man Gaming and a whole host of overseas sites.

    • +2

The sales aren't really worse, we've just already got too many unplayed games sitting waiting in our libraries, that's all.

I got to that point a few years back, realised I have half of the top 50 best games of all time just sitting there without time to play them.

So now I only buy a game on steam if:

      A) It was considered the very best game ever made by critics, sold millions, had high critic scores and positive reviews and such

      B) The complete edition of the game (GOTY, deluxe, soundtrack edition, etc) costs less than $5.

…So I only buy about one game per sale. For the last 3 years or so…

      • +1

        C)It's online/ multiplayer/ co-op
D)Have bunch of mods in steam workshop as it's super convenient to install in 1 click + great steam community

        • Yeah I haven't seen many great coop games with big discounts this sale either.

        • +1

@munted: Towerfall Ascension is alright if you have more than 2 people (played it with my gf).

        • @AznMitch: thanks I'll have a look although in keeping with this steam sale being a bit meh it's cheaper on gog

      • +4

My rule these days is to only buy if I'm going to dedicate 10 hours to playing it in the next week.

Which means I pretty much don't buy games any more.

      • I've noticed that alot of the games that used be very cheap come summer sale (i.e. Garry's mod, cs source + other valve games), don't get discounted to anywhere near as low anymore. Disappointing really.

    • I think it's because Steam sales gained reputation when we were being screwed by EB games and brick and mortar retailers. So their reputation was from when we didn't have that much options available (at least to vast majority of us), and it doesn't really apply now.

That being said, it's slightly unfair, Valve is a cooporation as well, they'd do anything to make profit. While I detest this behaviour, so don't get me wrong, Australia is one of the places where hiking up the price doesn't affect the sales that much (compared to other places). i.e while we have lower per capita GDP, we have higher minimum wage than US. At least that's my explanation on it, I can be wrong.

  • +1

Spent more on the GoG sales than the Steam sales which is a first for me.

  • +2

Their pricing seems to be all over the place. Some t hings go up, then down, then back up again. It seems some games even went up before the sale and then came down.

Keep an up-to-date wishlist and import it into isthereanydeals.com and have them notify you of price drops and historical pricing.

Edit: I should say that the OP did a good job, regardless of Steam's questionable pricing system. :)

Pulled the trigger on CS:GO - couldn't find a cheaper price on G2A or anywhere else. I was hoping it'd go to something like 80% like back in Dec last year but alas it won't. Sucks but oh well, it's only $9 AUD

You made the right choice because it is never getting cheaper then that again, the community kept complaining to Valve about the sale price being too low, so Valve set a limit for the price of CS:GO to a minimum of $7.50.

    • same. hope i made the right decision buying from steam directly. didnt check other gaming sites =/

Thanks for your continuous efforts OP. Shame the sale lacked any real bargains.

In case there is anyone left on the planet that doesn't own the Batman franchise, GMG are 25% lower than the encore sale as per https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199430

and here I think that steam is a good guy now compared to EA origins. Quite dissapointing that steam rarely have anything worth to buy now.
I guess humble bundle or GMG bargain is much more better than steam unless if you're in rush and want to buy specific game

Wish I didn't buy some of these games a week or two ago (which I still haven't played yet). Makes me want to not buy any games at all.

Steam should have a 30 day refund-the-difference price guarantee policy.

    • +7

You have 14 days (+ <2 hrs of gameplay) to refund games on Steam.

We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.

Interesting how CoD:MW2 and MW3 are cheaper than the original Modern Warfare.

Blops II is more expensive than the newest Ghosts (or is it AW? Not sure at this point).

Bought Insurgency because all of the reviews on the steam page seem to think it's great.

    • Activision is terrible with pricing their old CoD games. Insurgency is great, I hope you enjoy it.

Just wanted to say thanks for compiling all these deals for us. Much appreciated.

      My pleasure.

  • Project Zomboid was 40% the other day and now its only 20% off. Does anyone know if it will go back to 40%?

  • Can anybody recommend me a local co-op/co-op or just multiplayer game that is turn based? I am trying to play games with my gf and she cannot play games that well (and her thumb stops her from playing something that requires constant user input).

    • local co-op/co-op or just multiplayer game that is turn based?

Rome 2, Civilization V. Most grand strategy games.

      • I should've added that our PC is a laptop that cannot handle that much processing (We do have Civ V so we will try Civ V). Thanks for the suggestions though :D

Try mount your friends. Pretty hilarious coop game. http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/296470/

Then mount each other. Giggity ;)

        • @scrimshaw: Because nothing says sex more than dangling man-parts on TV. Thanks for the suggestions :)

Civ V needs its expansions to be a good game, so get the complete edition or upgrade. Civ 4 is less demanding graphically too, though I think Civ 5 is more straight forward to play.

Total War games are complex, not good for someone not good at games. Also graphically intensive. Though brilliant games.

LEGO games are easy and not demanding graphically but require lots of button pressing. When you die, you instantly reappear with the only penalty is a score reset. So if the pressing gets too much, just die and wait.

South Park Stick of Truth is obscene humour, I enjoyed it, that is not graphically demanding and is turned based.

City building games like Tropico are fun, I enjoyed 3 and 4, not intensive gameplay and has light hearted humour to it. Tropico 4 shouldn't be too hard on your laptop.

    • Icewind dale

      • Neverwinter Nights 2 too.

    • Heroes of might and magic series. But just like civ, be prepared to lose several days just to finish one game.

  • The Steam homepage says the sale is til the 21st. It's only the 20th in USA so there is still another day.

    • Today is the last day for new deals, these current encore deals last for 48 hours.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is good fun and great value.

    Thinking about grabbing Banished

    • Banished is a good game, once you get an idea of the "formula" it becomes quite easy.

Thanks OP for the great effort. Bought CS GO and Total War Shogun 2. Noticed that Gameagent are having a sale on Civ games and if you select AU instead of US there is no conversion. Picked up Civ Beyond Earth for 20 AUD with a free map pack. Downloading on steam now.

I bought Running With Rifles for $10 on a whim on Friday, and I'm pleased to say that anyone who is a fan of shooting, ye olde Soldat, Battlefield or the ever-looming mortality of soldiers on the battlefield should totally, TOTALLY buy this game. Cool realistic war game about being a regular dude (Spoiler, he dies… a lot) and not some roided up mega-soldier that is supposed to matter in the grand scheme (Looking at you, Call of Duty!)

Plus, it's got voxels! Because thanks, Minecraft! What I'm trying to say is go get it, it's sweet.
