Prescription Eyeglasses

I have a serious eye condition which has my prescription changing at least quarterly.
I need 'grind lenses' according to everywhere.

First I used LensPro, and got sets of glasses for about $450; they wouldnt do rimless.

I then found out that BigW include lenses in their prices, but I had to pay for 'upgrades' (thinner etc) and started getting them for about $275

Then I found MrOptical in Sydney, they did rimless, including all my special coatings and thinner lenses for about $170 3 day delivered.

However Mr Optical after many years helping me, are not taking orders (been that way for months now), and Im in desperate need of new glasses.
Also just lost a job.

Where do the OzBargainers get their glasses?
I have all prescription details including PD and long vs short correction.

Someone help?

  • Can't use contact lenses at all? Just buy 3 months worth at a time, and reorder using the new prescription.

When I was younger I had to get new lenses twice a year, so went with contacts as it was cheaper than new lenses all the time. I haven't looked back, even with my prescription not changing anymore.

    • Unfortunately no.

Besides the Panic attacks, my eye condition involves a severe weakening to the Cornea which means things touching them, or making me want to rub them, are a huge nono.

  • how about https://www.sneakingduck.com? I've never tried them, but last time I checked, their price was pretty good.

    • Thanks, but they dont seem to do rimless.

  • I use goggles4u. Customer service is based in the US, but the glasses come from China.

I have rimless, but I'm not sure what 'grind lenses' are. I paid $50 shipped last time for a medium thickness pair - 1.61 lenses.

I was honest with the optometrist at OPSM about buying glasses online. She was young and did not seem to care - I guess she is on salary and the salespeople get the commission for selling the glasses? She recognised me as a lost cause? No idea. She looked them over in a machine and said she couldn't spot any problems with them - she seemed very curious.

They are comfortable to wear and do the job. So I have had a good experience doing it that way.

Sounds like you have perhaps more intense eye issues though.

    • Thanks, i'll try them!

    • same story here, only difference is eyebuydirect.

      • I will see fi these guys can handle my prescription.

    • Tried; My prescription is too strong for them to fill….. sad face
