Fix Plasma or Buy New LCD

My old pioneer plasma has finally bit the dust and will cost $450 to fix.( pdp-508xda 50 inch)Positives of replacing are newer product under warranty, no need for pvr, 1080p,will be able to wall mount it. Negatives will cost more money, need to spend $3000 to replace it, lg oled 55 inch ( the only tv on the market that beats the pioneers picture quality) I'm leaning towards repairing it and wait for oled to come down in price.

Pretty sure you don't NEED to spend $3000 to replace it, at least not if you were doing like for like. I find it extremely hard to believe that an 8 year old TV couldn't be replace for equal or better quality for less then a grand.

Looks like OP's wife has signed up to Ozbargain!

    • You don't know much about Pioneer Plasma then…

      • Its an 8 year old 50 inch Std Def TV, It is incomprehensible to imagine a TV retaining 70% of its purchase value after 8 years, 8 months would be a stretch.

    ALdi Bauhn 58" (145cm) Full HD LED TV $777 —> Resolution: 1920 x 1080

    • This is a good deal if you aren't fussed with brands, considering the size.

        Aldi - 60 day no-questions-asked return policy.

buy and try. if you like it keep it. if not return.

        • exactly!

Think of how much power you'd save with the Aldi 58" LED. Those Dinosaur Pioneers are way past their used by date. In 2007 they may have been top of the tree but I think even Changhong and Soniq passed them some years ago.
