Optus Prepaid $30 Unlimited Calls and SMS, 1.5GB Data, Monthly Data Rollover up to 10GB

1310

For those presently jaded by the "targeted" $45 per month "go mobile" from Telstra, if you have a compatible handset this prepaid may suit.
I like the look of the $30 plan with unlimited calls/sms and 1.5 gigabytes of data, with an option for 500MB extra for $5.
The best part is you can roll over unused data allowance, up to 10GB.
The deal starts on 5 July.

    • Can use the $5 credit for that.

      • Yes, but then it becomes $35 not $30!

        • The $30 plan includes $5 credit

        • No. This plan Includes $5 flexible credit that can be used for anything.

        • @sylon:
I cant find any mention of the $5 flexible credit anywhere!

Does that mean, if you recharge $30 per month, you get $5 extra flew credit therefore this plan is $30 with 2 gb?

Can you send me the link?

        • @bex000:
He's referring to the extra credit listed on the 4th row of the table.

        • @Love a bargain:

So effectively this is a 2gb plan because its so flexible?

        • @bex000:
It says "Recharge with $5 to get 500MB data" so you probably won't be allow to use the $5 extra credit to buy an extra 500MB data if that's what you're referring to.

        • @Love a bargain:

Still not clear on what that $5 extra credit is.

Buy $30 credit, activate monthly plan, receive $5 bonus. Use $5 bonus on extra 500mb data?

        • @bex000:

          It says:

          $5 Extras Credit
For international calls, roaming and premium services

I can only go by what's on the website. You should check with Optus if you want any further clarification.

  • +1

I discovered that my existing prepaid plan also has data rollover now, so there's no need to upgrade to the prepaid monthly plan simply for that benefit.

  • Is this 4G?

And what the hell is Telstra's 4GX?

    • Yes, this plan supports 4G - 4GX is Telstra's trademark for their 700MHz support (similar to how they called 3g 850MHz NextG). There are some technical differences between the way Telstra and Optus use the spectrum, but I dont personally know enough about that.

      • I see Optus uses the term 4G Plus too. Probably just marketing fluff.

        • Probably, but there are some advantages of the new 700MHz towers going up, e.g. improved building penetration due to the frequency and new towers providing new/improved coverage. If your handset supports the 700MHz - I think it is band 28 LTE, it will work on both Telstra and Optus.
That said, there are still the older frequencies in use and working very well for the majority of 4G handsets in Australia.

  • Changed to 350 mins of calls and unlimited on weekends

    • Are you referring to the Optus plan? Can't see any change on their website.

      • Interesting, it's what I read when I click the link.. $30 plan call inclusions.

        • Maybe try clearing the cache of your browser?

  • Question, what is the cheapest method of top up for $30?
