  • CC's is just another pawn broker. You may get about 1/4 of what you would if you sold it privately. Convenience costs.

Avoid cash convertors, these guys are real low lifes. You ll get a better price on gumtree. And you wont be fuelling an industry that encourages theft and rips off the most vulnerable and desperate.

  • +1

Old faulty mobiles and a faulty mini TV that all seemed to be working at the time of transaction.

  • yeah most people use it as a quick fix for cash - you'll generally get between 1/4 - 1/3 of the value. If you wanted to loan against items, you pay a holding fee. i think the plus for CC against another pawn shop is the likelyhood they would lose something that you loan against.

  • Perfect if you're lazy or after quick cash, they really low ball you. If you loan them the item, it's 35% interest payable by the next month.
They will offer you more money if you loan them the item than sell but not much more.
Avoid if you don't need money straight away. Use gumtree, I've had a bit of success there recently, can be a bit of a hassle with phone calls and texts but you get decent offers

  • I mostly agree on all the above, but you cant blanket every CC franchisee as a lowlife.

As for Gumtree, I've had some good results selling Apple products on there. That said, some people can be a hassle to deal with. That's why I now only meet people in public places such as train stations, shopping centers and the like.

  • CC will not give you much at all. They have to resell your stuff to someone else, who typically will not pay much for your 'used goods'. And CC still have to make enough $$ to pay their costs & make some profit.

There is a designated area where they buy stuff from walk-in customers. If you go to one of their stores & queue you can observe how they deal with their customers if you keep quiet & hang back a bit. You can always see what they offer & just say no then leave too.

You will need to provide ID & they will share info on you & the goods you sell to the police. There is info on 2nd hand dealers obligations in NSW here:
