  • base model price for this year's octavia is 21k, and with the tepid market response you could probably wangle one for closer to 20k.

    • So?

      • so 35k seems a bit of a stretch.

        • Stated prize values are usually a bit of an exaggeration. Example: Double movie pass valued at $40.

    • +4

Base model doesn't include automatic gearbox, tech pack, and I doubt the $21k price is drive away. Sure, the $35k price is probably quite overblown, but you wouldn't buy this car for anywhere near $21k.

    • +3

My guess is $27,090 ($31,201 Drive away for WA). Probably include $3,589 in shipping/handling - Total $34,790.

  • Quick and easy to enter, esp with auto fill.

I don't really pledge my support, I still hate bikes on the road

    • -1

Thats okay, I'll just kick your panels in as you're driving past.

      • +3

You'd want to hope drivers don't have an attitude like that. I don't think there'd be many bikes left on the road if you want to go down that path.

      • LOL thanks for proving the point.

  • Yeah, you have to agree to the Pledge De Respect;
    1. I pledge to respect cyclists on our roads, at all times.
    2. I pledge to use kind words instead of loud horns.
    3. I pledge to allow cyclists a berth of one metre, unless attempting flirtation.
    4. But most of all, I pledge to treat cyclists with the respect that all road users - whether two-wheeled or four - deserve.

I always find it funny how its the motorist to blame. I guess truckies would say, its funny how its always the truckie to blame. and so on..

    • +3

I'm a bike rider and car driver. I see both parties often behaving like a-holes.

As a cyclist, I've had cans thrown at me, people driving past think it's hilarious to scream at me as they drive past (I'm in a bike lane, or even on a bike path 5m away), sound their horn for no reason. I've even had a group of teenage girls standing at the side of the road suddenly scream at me 'oh my GOD! Look out! Watch out!' in the hopes of startling me and causing an accident.

As a driver, I often see cyclists run red lights, ride on the wrong side of the road, almost crash into pedestrians who had the audacity of using a footpath.

      • +1

Absolutely, and its part of the reason I don't ride to work. Ryde to CBD is apparently not so bad, but it would be added stress and danger every morning.

A nice, dedicated bike path would get me to cycle to work. I am never going to ride whilst I would need to be on the road for any amount of time. I've seen how people 'drive' and I couldn't trust anyone.

        • +1

+1 Get the bikes off the road, and I'd be happy to join them. Ain't no way I'm playing in traffic on a bike though. There isn't room for bikes and vehicles, and it's pretty obvious who's going to come out worse from any incident.

  • +1

Even though the car is tempting, I seriously don't want to pledge for this.

There was an occassion when a cyclist smashed my side mirror and broke it. He drove off with his middle finger pointing at me. The road rule was that I was not supposed to park on that main street before 6pm, and it was around 6:10pm when I parked there. There was no number plate or rego that I can record who the cyclist was. It's unfair to the drivers.

Haven't said that, I do understand that it's only that cyclist who's a bad ass, not every cyclist.

    • +2

Only a small minority of cyclists are like the ones above though. On the other hand, I have had many cycling friends who have been hit by incompetent drivers on the roads and nearly died/had serious injuries and the driver just drove off.

The one metre gap between cars and bikes on the roads has helped but motorists still don't respect us. Cyclists reduce congestion on the roads, make it quicker to get to work and yet some people still try and cut us off and yell abuse.

      • How do cyclists reduce congestion on the road when other vehicles have to give you a metre clearance? Lanes aren't 1 vehicle + 1 bike + 1 metre wide, hence, bikes cause congestion.

        • Pretty sure most motorists can easily move into another lane or overtake with ease. Some lanes are wider and dedicated bike lanes also allow for cars and bikes to operate effectively.

        • @ShamelessBargains:
Yeah there's rarely anybody in the other lane - no need to reduce traffic speed at all </sarcasm>

Everyone is in agreement that getting bikes out of traffic is an excellent solution - the problem is where there is no provision for bikes, so they come into traffic and slow it down.

        • @SlickMick:

The problem is that far too many drivers think that getting slightly delayed in traffic is just cause to behave dangerously and aggressively towards cyclists. I've had objects thrown at me, cars swerve towards me, horns used to scare me and on one occasion a car chase me off the road, all for having the audacity to use the lane I was entitled to use…

        • @dontpanic:
I don't do any of that stuff, though I think they're probably trying to get bikes off the road by choice rather than wait for them to eventually be cleaned up.
However, if a car in front of me drove at the speed that bikes are often doing, I'd be blasting them - and they could receive a fine.
I don't know there is a different set of rules for bikes, and I don't like it.
Register your vehicle so I can take action when you're involved in an incident. If you can't do the speed limit, get off the road.

        • @SlickMick: Bikes are entitled to use the road. If you have a problem with it, lobby your local politician. Don't take it out on bike riders - it's dangerous and stupid.

Also, take a chill pill. Is it really THAT important to get to your destination 5 minutes earlier? Is it worth causing injury or death?

      • Small minority ?

        LOL

        You need a reality check.
