OzBargain Effect on Co-Op Bookstore

Hi,

Long time lurker & first time poster..

It seems the OzBargain Effect (TM?) on this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/190034 has made the co-operative after 58 years in the last few weeks change their policy here:

I no longer want to be a Co-op Member. Can I withdraw my shares?

Your membership is non refundable. If you have any queries, please contact our Customer Service team on [email protected]

The membership cancellation page which was located here has also been removed.

I guess OzBargain Effect (TM?) was too stong and overwhelmed them with cancellation requests - so they've varied their membership conditions so their their 1.8 million members now have no choice should they wish to leave the cooperative.

In my view it's often cheaper to get textbooks and other gifts cheaper elsewhere, I can't see the point in paying a membership fee (which is now non-refundable) when many other online stores are cheaper. I'm surprised they didn't vote/put this change to the members, it's a cooperative after all isn't it?

Any thoughts on this matter or any other links where the Effect (TM) has been too strong?

Does it legally apply if they change it after you joined?

      Hi,

I'm not sure, perhaps those with a legal mind could comment: here is an image comparing the membership terms and conditions from July 2013 to the current terms and conditions as at today (11/07/2015).

I'm also unsure if they can retrospectively modify the active membership and associated conditions of a registered co-operative in the state of NSW (where co-op is registered).
