  • Wow…they copy Dell style!?

  • I ordered one last night, but noticed nothing taken out of my Paypal account. Wonder if I'll get it or not?

    • they took my money instantly when i ordered yesterday…

    • If you didn't receive an instant email from Paypal saying the funds have been transfered, than you can be assured your payment didn't go through.

      • the money is gone from my paypal account, i don't need to check for such an email.

        • Ok, but above you said "nothing taken out" of your paypal.

Anyway, we'll all end up with one of two things, a a refund, or 4MB of flash ram!

          • @ash2000: no i didnt

please read that was dixon888 who said that lol!

Message Details: we are only human, plus at the $4.95 it is unheard of price. will not be seen or found anywhere else. Anyway, still thank you for your business and sorry for the inconveniece caused.

    • We are human too, and we will not be purchasing from TOPBUY again, hows that sound TOPBUY?

    • Probably not an educated human. The person who wrote that needs to go to a grammar workshop. They can go to a customer service workshop too while they're there.

  • Just got this response - seems like they are including a $5 coupon to try rectify things - no thank you.

hi, we are really sorry that there is ONLY 1 USB drive included in 15th Dec STEAL. There is no 2nd FREE USB drive, the error was a honest mistake from a previous content. - If you wish to cancel the order we can understand and we will refund the money to you immediately. If you wish to continue with this purchase, we will reimburse with $5 coupon. - Please let us know if you want to keep this order or rather cancel it. Please respond by continuing this msg. Thanks for your understanding and sorry for your trouble. PS, Kingston 4GB USB drive at this price is un-heard of and will not be repeated in the future, as we have sold out of stock already. - Topbuy Service Team

    • "PS, Kingston 4GB USB drive at this price is un-heard of and will not be repeated in the future, as we have sold out of stock already."

Of course you sold out already! Everyone was sucked in by your 2 for 1 deal.

  • i think they did the reasonable thing now :)

    • +4

the reasonable thing they should do is really to give the buyers 2 usb sticks, of those who purchased before they corrected the mistakes. Business is not human, business is business. when business went wrong, the business pay for the lost. there is no human involve when speaking "business"

Hi all OZBargain readers. I am Peter Hsie from Topbuy.com.au
The 15th Dec Steal had intended for 1 USB Kingston 4GB advertised for $4.95 plus shipping.
Accidentally, the Steal description had some content from previous Steal.
Hence it had caused the confusion. But we definitely not trying to mislead our
customers in any way. This was purely a human error.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience caused. We will provide 2 options
to those customer who bought under the impression that it had a "Buy 1 get 1 free".

    1) Should you wish to cancel the order, we will refund the full amount. Plus give you a $5 coupon
    2) Should you wish to proceed the order, we will also send you a $5 coupon for understanding and support.

Please note that for $4.95 plus shipping, even buy ONE 4GB Kingston is a VERY good deal,
we have sold out of the stock already, and we could not buy 4GB (or even 2GB) at that price anymore.
Again, we want to apologize for the mistake and misunderstanding caused, please response to our message with Topbuy massage system if you would like to proceed or cancel the order.

Thanks & Merry Christmas to you.
    Peter

Too bad. even though I received a refund I am going to neg all your deals from now on.

If you want to truly say sorry you will give us what your website said.

If you don't want to be responsible for errors, then DON'T TAKE MONEY STRAIGHT AWAY!

So, the title of the post become misleading now

and please note the coupon got min spend as condition

    • LOL 1 less competition for SQ to worry about :)

  • -5

Hi again, it is difficult for us to send some customers 2 USB and others 1 USB, as
    1) it is not fair for those who receives one, where others receives two units.
    2) Plus we don't even know who should receive one or receive two
    3) either we supply all orders with 2 units (which we don't have) or supply as per originally intended, 1 unit per item description and per our email newsletter.

So, all I can say is we are sorry for this "well intended special" but had an execution error
in delivery. Look, we are only human and trying to do a job, but neverless mistakes does happen.
If you still think you have been cheated or scammed after we offer you FULL REFUND and compensation for the trouble caused. Please feel free to contact me directly.
I will send you some additional coupons within reason.

Please contact me via Topbuy msg system directly.

    • It isn't that difficult, since you know exactly when you changed the webpage. Give an extra half an hour or so and you should be sending 2 for 1 to everyone who ordered before that time.

I'm sure you will have lots of stock once the people who ordered big lots of them realise they just paid $10 each, and so cancel their orders. By the way $10ea isn't that great a deal for low speed old tech 4GB thumbdrives, they almost give them away in cornflakes packets these days.

i think soon people who buy will get another "we are only human and trying to do a job, but neverless mistakes does happen" because they ran out of stock but the listing still on

  • If they give us a $5 voucher, Could we not just use that $5 voucher to buy the second usb? so that would mean 2x USB for $10 still???? (or is it another $5 for shipping for 2nd USB??)

    $5 (usb1) + $5 shipping - $5 (coupon) + $5 (2nd usb)

  • no, usually for using the coupon, they need some minimum purchase amount for example minimum purchase $5000 then you can use $5 coupon to create a big bargain of $4995 lol

    • oh .. thats dumb.

  • I don't think they honestly want to make their customers happy. The "Don't know who to give 2 or 1" is just a lame excuse. If they really want to know who ordered before fixing the printing error it wouldn't be that hard…
First and last purchase for me. Anyway anyone got it shipped yet? Just don't bother to cancel….

    • i just contacted them then to ask for mine to be cancelled… hopefully i get my money back soon.

  • +1

I got my money refunded according to the email i received. but there is no $5 attached as expected.

Previously there was a post in this thread, a representative from topbuy were saying that: whoever wants to get refund or go ahead with the purchased, they all get $5 coupon.

I can't believe they just dishonest for the third time within the deal:
    - wrong advertisement
    - denied to action on purchase from wrong advertisement
    - take away the offer of $5 from buyers who put in orders for wrong advertisement.

man… topbuy is worse online shop i have ever seen. I am operating one myself at the moment, but no where near the standard they are heading… good luck topbuy.

btw topbuy, just to let you know that when you removed your post from this thread, it isn't mean that the post is gone forever, but only sits inactive behind the scene. we can contact ozbargain to reactivate and show in the thread of what you have said earlier!

    • ming, you forgot two more dishonest things…
      1. Changing the advertisement behind out backs, rather than ending it and starting a new one.
      2. Saying they don't have the stock, yet still having the item for sale.

And what's this about them removing that (lame) $5 coupon offer? I read it on here earlier today, are you saying they have deleted it?

That would make it 3 additional things then, and counting…

  • I chose refund and hope my money get back soon. Topbuy, better remember the reputation can be easily ruined on internet, especially on forums like this.

  • so if we ordered a usb, (expecting two) and do not respond to the company they will send us one usb for $9.90??
is that right? or is there absolutely none to be shipped at all?

  • -1

hi we are all human, a mistake was made with the steal description. So if you feel we are on par with death row murderers and people who killed innocent children in civil wars, then we are sorry for wasting your time. Your refund will be processed tomorrow.

    ^^^^ MY REPLY

  • I was one of the unlucky buyers that thought they were receiving 2 USB sticks as well.
I sent off an enquiry email yesterday and received the 'cut and paste' reply around 12 hrs later.

Being that I'm in need of a USB drive at the moment and I've already paid I'll stick with my order rather than stuffing about with refund and then searching for another one in the same price range. However I would -ve this bargain (if my account here was old enough) and I highly doubt I'll use the $5 voucher if it has conditions attached.

I'm not that phased over missing out on the additional USB drive as we're only talking about $4.95 here, however what I am pretty disapointed over is the lack of contact from TopbuyAustralia that only came after I questioned them on the edit. Contact to all those that made the purchase before the 'ninja' edit to inform us on the mistake would have been business 101 I would have thought.

    • in all honesty, they didn't post the deal here… so back then they probably wouldn't of even known it was here..

Message Details: thats unacceptable. i still think you should make effort to match your ad description once a buyer is committed to buy and pay. anyway, what is the condition of the $5 coupon. any minimum purchase ?

Message Details: hi xxx, there is no min purchase limit for the $5 coupon and will expire on jan. 31. so pls confirm if you'd still like us to go ahead with your order(one kingston usb drive) or cancel it for a full refund? sorry again for the wrong info, topbuy

there is NO min purchase, guys…. so i asked again, can i use the coupon NOW to purchase the 4GB USB ?

    • but you have to pay the postage and the price is not $4.95

This just keeps gettin' better (worse !) :

16 Dec - I messaged Bottombuy to cancel the order and process an immediate refund

16 Dec - their response "sorry to hear that you are soo upset. We have cancelled the order and refunded you"

17 Dec - another message recd from Bottombuy "we'll cancel your order and arrange full refund ASAP. sorry again for the wrong info in the ad,topbuy"

17 Dec - email recd from Peter @ Topbuy

"My name is Peter from Topbuy.com.au
I would like to clarify the STEAL OF THE DAY promotion that was run on the 15th December.
as there was some mix up with a previous promotion that 2x 4GB USB was included.

In the promotion & our newsletter, There is only 1 x Kingston 4GB USB Drive, the item price
    was $4.95 plus shipping.
Note: normal retail price of 4GB Kingston is approx $15, at $4.95 is the best price for a 4GB Kingston available today and represents fantastic value for money.

We apologize for any confusion caused, we offer following 2 options :
    1) If you wish to cancel, please email me back before 5pm today. We will refund your money immediately.
Please quote your Order ID if possible.

    2) If you wish to proceed with the order, please DO NOT reply this email.

Either way, we will send you $5 voucher (valid for 30 days) as reimbursement for your trouble and any inconvenience causes.

Please response to my email directly before 5PM today Thursday 17th December, as I will process orders and I would like to get all order confirmed and release before end of today, still in time for Christmas delivery.

Thanks for you understanding & support.

    Merry Christmas to you.

    Topbuy Customer Service Team"

Needless to say there's been no refund to my a/c despite their previous claims that they had actioned one.

Just as well we're only talking about $9.90 here !!

    • +2

Received the same email today. What a crock of s##T. I placed an order for something else 2 weeks ago and is still sitting in warehouse. Will be the last time i deal with them.
Sorry to everyone who ordered off the above post i posted, i honestly thought it was great offer. I wasnt aware Topbuy would pull it and scam everyone the way they have.

    • Just recd confirmation of the refund…..don't think Bottombuy will get much business from me.

  • -6

i'm sick of all these people complaining here. move on, guys…it was a mistake and topbuy apologised, offering $5 off your next order. how is this a scam? they've just copied/pasted from a previous ad and they just realised their mistake after ozbargainers flooded them with orders. of course if people ordered 400+ units each, expecting 800, they cannot fulfill the orders.

one lesson from this for the OP and other people who find deals too good to be true: DON'T POST THEM HERE! I know it is nice to share, but some people here will most probably make the deal dissapear by trying to take advantage of it. and in the end, everyone losses…it is far more likely that a company will deliver on their mistake if only a few people noticed it…

    • +3

I think you in the wrong forum mate! This is OZB…if you don't post bargain on here what do you post… full RRP???
Those people who ordered have the right to raise their voice.
Didn't you see they sneak behind our back and list them again?

    • +3

I posted this offer thinking it was a great Steal of the day. I wanted others to be able to get this offer to. I had no idea of what would be, otherwise i wouldnt have posted it. I thought Ozbargain was about sharing great deals and offers. I hope in future if you are so offended by my posting, that you do not take up any incredible offers and continue paying full RRP.

  • Got the same email… cancelled order and neg vote for bait advertising..

edited: Damn it can't cast neg vote cuz I've already voted

    • u can. just click on "votes" exactly above the picture of this post (go to top page, its just under "wiki", retract your vote, revote

  • I just got the email now (3pm), and they want a reply by 5pm today, yeah right. I'm just gonna let them ship it, then unleash the dogs on them when only one stick arrives.

  • cancelled my order. hardly a bargain when you can get 4gb sticks at officeworks/post shop/msy for around $10 too. i will be expecting my NO MINIMUM SPEND $5 voucher, if they don't ninja edit that offer too!

  • I was about to buy the 4gb sticks but the quantity kept coming up as 25. Lucky I didn't saved myself some hassle.

  • i cancelled mine too.

  • Same here, goodbye to topbuy… boom tish

    Have retracted my +ve.

  • I also cancelled my order. Pity they didn't honour their mistake, would have made good stocking stuffers.

    edit: refund received.

    • i lodged a ticket yesterday, was told i would be refunded, still NO REFUND

Message #: 87430 (for topbuy staff)

  • I actually had bad experience with bottombuy before.
Purchased a DV through moneybackco, and got nothing after a few weeks.
Then I raised an query to moneybackco, copied order No, Ref No, and the whole invoice email from bottombuy. After several weeks of investigation, bottombuy replied there was no such transaction and closed my query on moneybackco. Well, the DV arrived later with no problem, so I was still lucky anyway.

  • Topbuy: How come I didn't receive a notice to cancel my order. Instead I get a notice that both my orders have been sent? I'll probably do a Paypal "item not as described" chargeback for your false advertising.

  • BOGOF - yeh right !!!!

  • I emailed them to cancel my order on the first day (15th Dec), they never reply.

But yesterday they reply saying that the USB already sent.
I will never buy anything from them again!

  • I intended to complete my order regardless of the fact that I was missing out on the extra stick.

So much for that. I received an email Wednesday from customer support, which I'd yet to reply to but before I did I recieved another email from 'Peter @ topbuy' stating if I wanted to cancel my order then contact them before 5pm otherwise the order will be processed.

NOW, I receive another message stating because I didn't reply to the first message that my order HAS been cancelled.

Oh well, good ridance to the whole god damn mess. At least my refund came through quicker than it took for them to get their act together, but now I have 9.90 in my paypal that I have no use for.

    • hehe yup i have my 9.90

now im going to head to dealextreme to buy something :)

  • Just received my drive, only 1 arrived not the 2 as advertised.

I would not buy from this company again, advertise 2 and then get all the disclaimers small print ext, they should have sent an email to say there was was a problem and they have refunded the money. They clearly haven't heard of the office of fair trading, nor the ACCC, regarding false and deceptive conduct.

Yes a mistake has been made (maybe) so do the right thing and rectify it by an email before proceeding with the transaction as the only person who has benefited by doing this is them

They are just lucky its only a small value item so no one will bother. Just boycott them in future

  • Just got in in a yellow sachet, expecting two… and I got one.
Bunch of liars, not buying from them again.

  • Very bad service from Topbuy.

Told me they sent the item even though I told them last week that I wanted a full refund. Asked me if I would accept the $5 voucher instead.

No, I won't accept the $5 voucher. I want my money back, and will gladly send the USB key back to them if they add postage cost to the refund.

Will pursue this further through the OFT or ACCC if there is no favorable outcome. It has nothing to do with value of the item, a business should run like a professional business. There are laws governing this.

  • Received my ONE stick today as well. Time to write a letter to the ACCCC and write warnings all over the internet about buying from TOP BUY.

  • +1

Only received 1. Opened up a paypal dispute. That'll learn them

    • Yeah me too. Hmmmm now, "item not as described", or "item not received" dispute? I know what I'd like to do (there was no tracking number on the package).

  • Same here… Only one received. So, I decided to revisit this thread… and lo and behold… CRAPPYBUY has really stuffed up….

Their reputation is priceless and I reckon they should just honour their offer and make back the profit through happy/satisfied customers…

  • topbuy = dishonest

they knew I ordered expecting to receive two memory stick, changed the advert after I ordered, then sent out one memory stick instead.

how hard is it to email the people who ordered, explain the mistake and offer the chance to cancel the order?

All they managed to do was piss off now former customers and waste their money on shipping.

  • Was looking through the site to see if there was anything I could possibly want to spend my $5 voucher on (still received one dispite them cancelling my order) and came across this amazing bargain.
The saving off the regular price is so amazing it's worth it's own 'bargain' post, but thought I'd post it up here for those of us who missed out in the 2 USB sticks first. :)

    http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/PS3-DJ-Hero-p22530.htm

Not the only massive saving I can across either. Actually made my morning quite enjoyable having a look through the site.

  • Da* Topbuy.com.au, DON'T CLOSE THE PAYPAL DISPUTE UNTIL YOU GET THE REFUND OR ANOTHER ONE !
    THEY WILL LIE TO YOU!
I opened dispute on Paypal and asked for refund. They replied they are going to send another one today, but as soon as I close the dispute, they replied IMMEDIATELY (in seconds) said they don't have any stock now and can only provide a $5 coupon or do a return。
    They lied twice!

    • That is dodgy as. Every online shopper should be made aware of this. The $5 coupon thingy is pure crap, you will end up paying them more money. I think they know that no one will use their $5 coupon because you can't even buy peanuts with it.

      TOPLIE.COM.AU

  • I didn't get a 2nd one in my delivery (as now expected) - have sent off an email explaining that I expected it.
    Don't hold much hope….

    • Open a Paypal dispute, and tell them you won't close the dispute until you've received something that is not a $5 coupon.

  • Over two weeks past, my refund is still somewhere unknown.

  • To TOPBUY:

Why do you insist on making it difficult for your customers? You've sent customers only ONE USB stick when two were advertised. That's deceptive and misleading.

Not only that, but followup customer service has been poor. To date I have been given these piss poor alternatives

    1) A $5 voucher with a ONE MONTH expiry date
    2) To return to USB stick AT MY COST for a refund.

  • I finally got refund in my paypal account, after I emailed them to remind. I reckon if I forgot this thing and assume it was refunded (because of the email telling me it was done in Dec), I would never get my money back.

  • still havent got the usb eventhough advised shipped on 18/12, did it travel around the world or sth….will definitely never shop from them ever again, ..no reply after chasing again, probably need to open up a paypal dispute ??!! fortunately it was only $9.90
