Kathmandu - Clearance on Selected 2 and 3 Person Tents ~ $70 and $140. [Postage $10]

40

My partner and I were looking at camping gear and came across these Kathmandu tents. They seem to be a good price for above average quality tents. Checked postage for the 'Retreat 30' and it was $10. The heavier 'Retreat 60' might be more but I doubt it.

'Retreat 30' 2 Person Tent - Lake Blue/Aluminium ~
The Retreat 30 tent is everything you need in a 2 person tent. Its weatherproof, cosy, compact and easy-to-pitch and is deceptively strong for its size. There’s also a handy front vestibule for extra storage, and breathable insect mesh to keeps the bugs at bay.

If you're looking for a tent, Snowy's is having a sale too. You can buy a coleman instant up tent for about the same price http://www.snowys.com.au/Tents-Shelters/Touring-Tents/Lakesi… $130 free shipping. Or this one is cheaper than your small one http://www.snowys.com.au/Tents-Shelters/Dome-Tents/Tasman-3V… $60 free shipping. Don't know how quality compares but thought I'd share.

    • Thanks for those links, I appreciate it. Excellent waterproofing is a must have for us and they don't really offer the assurance of actually being "waterproof" tents.

      • Most manufacturers avoid giving assurances. Pop up and dome tents linked above are rated 1200mm & 2000mm respectively which is considered waterproof but not great.

3000mm rating of the Kathmandu tents is much better but decent poles and tie down points are just as important when the wind picks up.

    • cheers

You wouldn't want to be carrying the 2-3 person one on your back- 7.86kg.

    • how much do they usually weigh?

      • Depends what they are designed for. A lightweight hiking tent of that size could be 2-3kg but a canvas tent could be over 20kg.

    • No, you wouldn't. These aren't great tents for hikers, more for weekends away in the car.

    • Anyone looking at these for a hiking tent should be considering a new hobby
